His father, Peter Jefferson, was a successful planter and surveyor and his mother, Jane Randolph Jefferson came from a prominent Virginia family. Thomas Jefferson Political career begin in 1772 when he graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. In 1767, Jefferson begin practicing law, 2 years later in 1769 he was elected to the House of Burgesses. In 1776, Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence. Soon in 1784 Jefferson is appointed as minister to France. He became the first secretary of State in 1789, the second Vice-President of the United States in 1796, and Elected the third President if the United States.
