Thomas Jefferson's Sacrifice

My history report is on Thomas Jefferson. He was the third president of the United States and was born on April 12, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. He was married to Martha Jefferson and had 7 kids, Eston, Madison, Mary, Martha, Peter, Lucy, and Jane Jefferson. He was also president for 8 years. He then died on July 4, 1826, due to unknown causes.

We need to make a decision on what to do with the war. I chose Thomas Jefferson for my project to write about. I chose him because he is a very interesting person. Jefferson had a lot of jobs so he was not bored. Thomas Jefferson was a very busy man, he was never bored, he was always on the go.

Thomas Jefferson was born at the Shadwell plantation, outside of Charlottesville, Virginia, on April 13, 1743. Jefferson was born into a very prominent family of Virginia’s planter elite. His mother was Jane Randolph Jefferson who was a member of the Randolph clan who claim descendant from English and Scottish royalty. His father was Peter Jefferson who was a quite successful

Thomas was born to a self-made man, and an aristocrat mother. His genius sparked from a young age. At the age of six he was reading his father’s library, Jefferson taught him-self to play the violin. With all the great future ahead, he was not prepared for the tragedies yet to come. The first of which was his dad, when he died, he left Jefferson alone with no one to take care of him accept his mother; he had to learn to take care of him-self. At the age of 16

	After finishing college in 1762, Jefferson studied law with George Wythe. "He watched with concern as tension grew between the American Colonies and Great Britain (Nardo 136)". In 1765, Jefferson heard Patrick Henry give his famous speech against the Stamp Act, he saw it stir up the people. In 1767, Jefferson was admitted to the bar. He practiced law with great success until public service began taking all of his time. He divided his time between Williamsburg (college) and Shadwell. At Shadwell, he designed and supervised the building of his own home Monticello.

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Thomas Jefferson is arguably one of the most influential people to Virginia and the United States before and during the American Revolution. Jefferson had been a governor for Virginia during the American Revolution, he had wrote the Declaration of Independence along with four other notable American politicians, and served as a minister to France in 1785-1789. Without Jefferson the American Revolution most likely would have played out completely different and we could possibly be living a different life today.

Thomas Jefferson was the Governor of Virginia in 1779 to 1781. He was involved in the first two United States presidencies, serving as a Secretary of State for George Washington and John Adams. Thomas Jefferson was a lawyer in the Virginia House of Burgesses and in 1800 he was elected president. He wrote the Declaration of Independence and made many improvements to the judicial and educational system in Virginia. In 1801 he purchased the Louisiana territory and maintained neutrality in the conflict between France and Great Britain which led to the war of 1812. Thomas Jefferson was a consistent opponent of slavery throughout his life. In his early political career he took action and hoped to end slavery. In the mid 1770’s, he advocated a plan by which all born into slavery after a certain date would be declared free. Jefferson himself owned slaves as was common for plantation owners at the time, however he spoke out tirelessly throughout his life against the institution of slavery and for the right of black people to be freed. Despite his famous oratory of equality, liberty, self-rule and freedom, the principles in which our nation was founded, Thomas Jefferson was a slave-holder and a hypocrite till his death in 1826.

Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, was a very successful and influential person because of the many things he did throughout his lifetime. Even though he was very successful, he did have his faults. He had nine sibling, and two of them died in their childhood. Jefferson was born an Anglican, bu he claimed to have believed in Jesus Christ. He was part of the Democrat-Republican party. Thomas Jefferson was also one of the four presidents that were carved into Mount Rushmore.

We always hear about Thomas Jefferson in our history classes, as one of the most influential American politicians at the time of the nation’s birth. Though, we don’t always take the time to understand why this is the case. Looking at what he accomplished as president and politician seems mind boggling. In my blog, I will discuss Thomas Jefferson’s major accomplishments, his leadership lessons, and criticisms of his actions.

During college, according to his classmates, he would spend hours on end with his books and was always serious. He graduated in 1762 and studied law in Williamsburg with George Wythe, the first American law professor, and stayed there for five years. After his five year internship Jefferson continued to practice law by representing small scale planters. Through this, he gained an impressive reputation around Williamsburg.
