Three Examples Of Racial Discrimination In The Workplace

When I think of racial discrimination, I automatically include prejudice and stereotyping. I believe that these go hand in hand and without one the others are irrelevant. Meaning, if we did not have racial discrimination, prejudice and stereotyping would not exist. This is my personal belief. The definition of race in our class book is as follows “Race typically refers to appearances, such as skin color, hair type (straight, curly, kinky), skin hue, eye color, stature, body size, nose, eyes, and head shape” (Robinson-Wood, 2008). So racial discrimination could be defined as unequal treatment on the premise of their race or ethnicity (Pager and Shepherd, 2008).

Both Kim and Heather tried to apologize, but, my decision was to not have that type of negativity in my life. I feel this to be racial discrimination as not only does the N word make an appearance in this conversation, but for Heather to ask about ‘their greasy hair and odor’ permeates racial discrimination based on the hair and personal hygiene of African-Americans.
Workplace- Because I was a stay at home mom for most of my life, I have not had an opportunity to witness any racial discrimination at the few jobs I did have.
