How to be a Woman on Top: Three Recurring Themes Seen Throughout
Throughout this course there have been a lot of really interesting ideas that have flown throughout each speaker and reading. A lot of these recurring themes are important ideas for women to learn and even to live by. I believe that happiness, positivity, and honesty and three concepts that all aspects of this class have touched upon and I think are eminent to any woman’s success.
The first topic that I found kept reappearing throughout the course, is the idea of happiness, and what it means to strive for happiness in ones career. All of the speakers and books agree on this one idea- happiness is the most important thing when it comes to looking for a job; do what makes you happy.

It cannot be stressed enough that to be positive in situations, you need to have a positive view of yourself. Just like happiness, achieving this is not as easy as it seems. “The most important relationship you have is the one with yourself. You have to be feeling good about who you are when you look at yourself in the mirror every morning. You need a clear vision of what you want to achieve and an understanding of yourself. What you’re good at-and what you’re not good at. This self-awareness and sense of what you want to achieve will make you unstoppable” (Blalock, 29-30). I truly believe that if you have this down, you can do anything. This is also important when thinking about strengths and weaknesses. A lot of the time it is easy to spot the things we’re bad at, or qualities we wish we didn’t have. Often times we don’t give ourselves credit for what we are good at. One big take away that Jessica Bacal had after writing her book, was that there are lots of ways to be brave, we just don’t always acknowledge or appreciate them. I think this piece of advice is hugely important. If you’re having a hard time or a bad week, and the only thing you do today is get out of bed, that is still an accomplishment; that is still something to acknowledge and be proud of. If you start acknowledging the little things that you do, and loving those little parts of yourself, ultimately it will be easier to love the whole

The Foundational Documents of the United States are the basis of American government and culture. The documents are used in to keep order in the government and show the beginning of America as a free country. Between The Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, Marbury vs. Madison, Common Sense, and The Federalists Papers, there is a mixture of themes throughout all of the documents. The authors of all of these essays and documents use their words to portray the themes of Unity, Equality, Freedom, Democracy, and Independence.
The question that we aimed to answer as a class was: what do women want? The class focused on themes such as desire, family, community safety, and even more, but I feel that the theme that really appeared in all of the books and films that we studies was the idea of meaningful work. This is one of the most important things that women want, or that anyone wants, because it is doing something on a daily basis that means something to you and means something to somebody else.
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ The danger lies in refusing to face the fear in not daring to come to grips with it. If you fail anywhere along the line, it will take away your confidence. You must make yourself succeed every time. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” That was a quote said by Eleanor Roosevelt.
First, it’s important to positively change your mindset … . For example, people who are optimistic often found ways to take a bad situation and turn it into a motivational and empowering one that they can carry through their day. It saves any negative energy from getting in your way. Your optimistic traits can take a horrid, tiring, and slow day into an energetic, lively, and exciting one that you can benefit from. I remember when I was upset and lonely and my day was slow but when I tried to find the good in things I became happy again. Making the most out of the problem allows you to turn it into something enjoyable.
It is not mentally not looking at circumstances with eyes that see only what you want to see”. In other words using Positive Self-Talk shows us the truth on real situations. For example: you were trying out for the school volleyball team and you messed up on bumping the ball, when the negative thoughts occur that is when the positive self talk will take place “ok I’m now going to focus on what I need to complete in order to make it on the team.” There is a way in which you can develop a positive self talk habit, there are 3 steps and the first one is “Mantra”, choose a mantra and find a positive self talk for example; “I feel strong”. This positive self talk will encourage you to feel motivated. The second step is “Practice Multiple Scenarios”after using the positive self talk from step one, repeat the line so you can practice having it sink in your brain. It will help you during real situations in sports a example for this step is “Anything can happen, and I’m definitely not out of this, Don’t let up”. Finally, the last step called “Creating A Positive Mental Image Or Visualization” this technique can help you create a visual picture on what you are doing and saying This powerful combination will create a positive message.
The most appealing to me is the How to Interpret Job Postings; I find this interesting because even though it is an easy enough task, having some insight can go a long way to cutting down wasted time. The “How to Interpret Job Postings” seminar has a great tip to maintain consistency throughout the cover letter, resume and interview. Another interesting point is that even if you are only 75% qualified for the job it is still okay to apply for the position, just make sure to use common sense and only apply if you believe you can do the job (Portal.csuglobal.edu,
The III Effect of the Five Paragraph Theme article by Kimberly Wesley is more about persuading students to write other types of essays rather than just the common five paragraph essay that’s been taught for countless years. In my opinion, I prefer not to write my essays in the five paragraph theme because it isn’t remarkably conducive to not only high school students like me, but as well as other writers. As of my own experience in writing throughout my school years, there’s no doubt in confessing that I have had more than three main ideas for a certain essay, while on the other hand, there have been essays where I would struggle to come up with even two ideas! According to a college student (my sister), I have been told that the FPT is not
It is very hard to keep positive, I know it is. I’m proud to be able to say that I often succeed in being positive, but I don't always have such a great attitude. Who does? As I read Sean Covey’s, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, I noticed that he has many points about different outlooks of the world that can coincide with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic Human Needs. A win-win outlook on the world can be quite hard to achieve, but it is very helpful to have one. Sometimes, your family can put pressure on you and cause your positive attitude to crack.
Core themes in my artwork are connections, storytelling, and language. These connections are between humans to humans, humans and nature, as well as humans and technology. Storytelling is displayed through making art based on memories or experiences, and using documentarian processes to depict stories of others. Utilizing the power of language is important to in my art practice. Wether it is done through spoke words, music, or text. Also, I pull from personal experiences and apply those to my art to offer shared experience between the viewers and me. People are a general point of interest to me. The simple yet fascinating ways that humans from around the world can relate to one another, as well as the uniqueness of their talents and abilities,
Brene Brown said, “I’m just so grateful, because to feel this vulnerable means I’m alive” (Brown 9). Don’t settle for less believe you’re worthy and do not stand in the shadows. No one wants to live through not being able to expose yourself even for the good or bad. Because even with all that Steve Jobs says, “Because almost everything - all embarrassment or failure- these things just fall always in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important” (Jobs 18). However, you do know you are living that you can have failure but just keep in mind that it could be for the best be
However, there are two sides to it. Positivity is not a magical occurrence that allows even the dullest individuals to succeed, but rather an add-on to raw talent. Positivity gives hope that the situation will be overcome and that no matter the outcome, it will be livable. There were moments during high school where it seemed unbearable and impossible, but with a positive attitude and the will to go on I succeeded. This occurred again when I began college. I was so lost during the first day, I even questioned if I belonged in college because it seemed impossible. By staying positive and giving college a try, I figured that I truly did belong there and to this day it is the path that will lead to my
I always take a negative situation and try seeing the positive in it. For example, if I am walking on the street and see an advertisement for healthier foods and the main attention is on a very thin model, usually I start thinking I should pay attention to what I eat so I can look at that model I instead tell myself that I am so blessed to have a healthy body and to have to two legs to walk me everywhere I please to. Simple reminders like this go a long way.
It’s easy for me to tell you how to begin your road trip to positivity. It’s easy for me to talk about it and give you tips. The real challenge is if I could back up with real results. That’s why I started a 3 week roadtrip to positivity, so buckle up and enjoy the ride. During those 3 weeks everyday I would read a quote to start off my day. Me doing this, it helped me have a hint of positivity that I may not have the day before. It started my day in good energy. Once the 3 weeks ended I had 21 quotes in total. I don’t know about you but that is a lot of positive quotes. When I was looking for quotes, I didn’t pick the first one I saw. It did take me some time to find the perfect that I gravitated to. It was like clothes shopping. I see a piece
Stay in a joyous mood. If you are always in a good mood and spreading joy, there is no way to be negative. You will always be looking on the bright side seeing how fortunate you are. This will keep a smile on your face showing that you are truly happy. Also, help others around you to be in a good mood. This will help you connect with others.
