Tiger conservation is a process that our world has been trying and carefully perfecting over the years, more so after tigers were officially put on the endangered list. Tigers are one of the more popular endangered species in the world and because of the public eye, the pressure for their protection is high. Mostly reserves are what organizations focus on because they are the best answer for the tiger. So, how what about our conservation are successful? How have they been improved? How are they dealt with on a social-political standpoint? In what ways has human efforts towards Tiger conservation and reserves been successful? Through understanding, research, experiments, and Trial- and-error Tiger conservations have become better and more successful, and humans understanding of tigers have grown in order to assist in this process.

Sumatran Tigers are listed on the critically endangered list with around 400-500 left in the world. The main reason Sumatran Tigers are on the verge of extinction is because is because of the loss of habitat. “As recently as 1978 the Sumatran Tiger more than 1,000 Sumatran Tigers lived on Sumatra, now there is around 400-500 Sumatran Tigers (Lee Poston).” The loss of habitat resulting in the deaths of tigers is due to the agricultural expansion in Sumatra. The members of the Tiger SSP teach the public about the plight of tigers and do research. They keep a computerized family tree of zoo tigers that helps match males and females for breeding.” This shows that the AZA is taking big steps to make sure that tigers survive and breed.
Another frequent character is Chief Tiger, a Native American. They were taught to appreciate the land and animals, and respectively be conscientious of how much of each is needed for sustainability. Traditions passed down from their predecessors included that animals have the same right to the environment as people do. Animals are meant to roam miles and miles every day. These animals are contained every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit the animals from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly see how this was affecting the animals. The tigers’ whole body was round and looked like a balloon. Although it was an adorable sight, I immediately noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll around on the ground instead of walking.
