In 1964, Tim Horton opened its first restaurant with the preparation to enlarge the operations. Tim Hortons competes in the Full-Service Restaurants industry (Full-Service Restaurants, 2012) which includes other famous competitors, such as McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, etc. in the North America. Nowadays, Tim Hortons is the "the fourth largest publicly-traded quick service restaurant chain in North America based on market capitalism and the largest in Canada" (Tim Hortons, 2016). It operates around 4,413 system wide restaurants, including 3,650 in Canada, 650 in the U.S., and 113 in the Middle East (Restaurant Brands International Inc., 2015). Tim Horton started with the hierarchy structure. Nevertheless, in order to expand its business, Tim Horton only left the top management level with this structure. Their executive team at head office ranges from Executive Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer to Chief Operations Officer (Restaurant Brands International Inc., 2015). At the same time, Tim Horton diversified its business with separate functional departments to operate more effective and efficient. Departments such as Distribution, Finance and Taxation, Information Technology, Marketing are just some of the subdivisions that compose Tim Horton 's (Restaurant Brands International Inc., 2015).
