Time goes by so fast. It’s been almost a year since I moved in the US. What happened the first week since I landed here it’s something I will always remember. Last December I came in Peabody because my sister lives here so I could spend a couple of days with her before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I was registered for the winter semester. I didn’t know much about where I was going to live so my brother in law offered to come with me and help me to know the place better. We left Boston early in the morning and took place in our seats. After a couple of hours Terens, my brother in law started to feel dizzy and after that he told me that he was feeling abdominal pain. The appendix is a pouch the size of a finger part of the large intestine and placed in the lower right abdomen. It is not yet fully understood its operation, although some theories suggest that it plays a secondary role in the immune system, is the widespread view that it is totally unnecessary. The removal of the appendix does not seem to have any effect on a person 's health. What causes appendicitis? Obstruction of the lumen (the inside of the Appendix) can cause appendicitis. The mucus produced recedes into the lumen causing the multiplication of bacteria normally found in the appendix. The consequence is that the appendix swells and becomes infected.
Sources of obstruction can be: feces, parasites, abnormal growth of the lymphatic tissue (for example due to the Crohn 's disease), foreign bodies or stones (grapes, cherries, peppers) tumors. An inflamed appendix probably burst if not removed. Bursting would spread the infection throughout the abdomen, causing peritonitis.
To whom it may happen? All subjects can be appendicitis, but is most common in people between 10 and 30 years of age.
