For thousands of years now serenity, joy, love, and peace are symbolized by a white dove universally, from different ages and cultures. This bird has many great characteristics that suits its symbolism of pureness. Some characteristics the dove transmits are loyalty as they mate for life with the same partner, dedication since they are hard workers, and gentleness by interacting naturally with humans compared to other pets. The doves’ origin of symbolism has a couple different possibilities like Noah’s Ark, and the Holy Spirit in the bible. The white dove is an iconic powerful image of the symbolism of purity, peace, the Spirit of the Holy, and love. In the Old Testament Noah releases a dove in order to find land after the flood, after a while the dove returned to the ark with an olive branch in its beak signifying that the flood was over, therefore God was again in peace with humanity. The bible states, “He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth” (Gen. 8:10.) It was used to celebrate a new beginning as the world was coming to life one again after the flood.
