The Titanic was the biggest ship ever made around 1912. The Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912 to go to New York City. But sadly on April 15, 1912 The Titanic struck an iceberg and sank on a dreadful night. Only about 1,500 people survived out of around 3,000 people. One question that people argue over is “ Should we be able to bring up items from the Wreckage, or should they be left alone?” I think that they should be left alone because of these reasons, one is because of respect. My second reason is that If we left it the exact way that it sunk we might be able to find more answers about what, and why The Titanic came to rest, and have more information. And last but not least my third reason is because theses items could have been very …show more content…
Many people died and it would be disrespectful if we take or touch anything from the wreckage. The Titanic carried almost around 2,200 people and only about half survived. Many people lost family members. Some people call it an “Underwater Graveyard” and when we go to graveyards we pay respect. Secondly, If more people study where the Titanic and where it landed we can find more answers. We could find out why it sunk, why it landed the it did, we could find out why some of the lifeboats only were half full, and many more. But if people were to bring stuff up we wouldn’t be able too. So if we can keep it the way it is we could find out stuff we would never know. Last but not least, these things in the debris field could have been very meaningful to these people that sadly died. In the book “Exploring The Titanic” on page 54 Robert Ballard was talking about how he saw that there was a white face looking up to him. He soon later realized that it was a face to a doll. Then he started thinking about who this doll could belong to, and if this child had survived and got on a Lifeboat. And many other objects could have belonged to kids and adults that they may have
The point of excavating the site is to give the opportunity to be able to find all the artifacts buried. It is noted that sometimes it’s not that easy especially when you’re trying to dig up a sunken ship. The problem with excavating a sunken ship is that it has been in that location since the 1700s which means there has been over 300 years of deformation of the ship and everything inside of it. It is a hard task to retrieve the artifacts then being able to restore them to their pristine condition. I remember seeing in the video that once they had extracted the cannon with a crane they had to remove all the crustaceans on it then they would have to bathe it in chemicals for years because if they didn’t the cannon would still be decaying. That being said not all the remains of the ship and its treasure will be found unfortunately.
Archaeology is a continuously evolving field where there is a constant stream of new branches and excavation methods. Due to the influx of new technologies and innovations in recent decades, archaeologists have been able to excavate previously inaccessible areas. For example, new diving equipment and tools such as proton magnetometers, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and miniature submarines have allowed archaeologists to dive into the deep depths of the ocean. As a result, the branch of underwater archaeology was created to search for shipwrecks and other artifacts on the ocean floor. Underwater archaeology’s role has increased in recent years as it allows archaeologists to more accurately interpret the past by supplementing
Have you ever wondered about shipwrecks? Probably at some point in your life you have. What about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald? It was the worst and fastest shipwreck in Great Lakes history. The sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald has a significant story and a significant history behind it, and it’s unfortunate the ship and her crew members aren’t here today.
The Ulu Burun shipwreck is often referred as one of the wealthiest shipwrecks ever discovered. At the moment of sinking, the ship was carrying over 20 tons of cargo (Holloway 2014). In total, more than 18,000 spectacular artifacts have been recovered, including precious jewels, luxurious raw materials, and even the gold seals of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti (Holloway 2014). Certain materials are better maintained underwater compared to on land. “In anaerobic, cold and dark conditions underneath waterlogged sediments, organics, such as plants, leather, fabric and wood may be preserved” (Crystalinks 2010). The most important discoveries were the raw materials found on the ship such as copper, tin, and resin. Since these raw
In 1884 the J. S. Seaverns freighter sank and after 132 years it was found. The freighter sank in Canada near Michipicoten Harbor, Ontario. This summer a five-man team located it. It was discovered along with piles of unbroken dishes which is strange how nothing was broken after 132 years of being underwater after sunken. There were also other various amounts of other century-old items. The Dutch Tribune News reported the found items last week. Dan Fountain was the guy that helped find those items last week reported them as being “in beautiful shape.” It is hard to believe that the sunken ship was found along with many items inside it and it being untouched and undisturbed. The upper cabins of the sunken ship however were somewhat broken up
Shipwrecks are a constant source of curiosity and will be discussed in detail later in the essay.
The research vessel allowed footage of the sunken Titanic to be captured. The technology and submersible travel 16 hours round trip to actual ship 12,000 feet beneath the ocean surface. Cameron himself made the trip, when the submersible is traveling with little to see then, just 15 feet away the bow of the ship becomes visible. The more recent footage of the wreckage allows the editor to take us back in time by showing modern film that cuts recreated sets and actors in period costumes portraying passengers in 1912.
1ST QUESTION: The questions is why? Why is it the Titanic that everyone remembers? There have been far worse disasters than the Titanic, such as the tsunami that devastated Japan in 2011, or the earthquakes in Haiti. So why is the Titanic
Recovering artifacts from the shipwreck, people are fascinated about exploring old things that were lost or destroyed in the past. For that, scientists were searching shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico, they have discovered two sunken ships that went down during a storm in the 1800s. The ships they found were in deep underwater, about 4,363 feet down, which makes the ships the deepest Gulf or North American shipwrecks that have ever been studied. In 2011, a crew from the Shell Oil company found a shipwreck and asked the scientists and leaders in the U.S. to come and studied it. People want to know if how do they research the ships was an underwater robot to take a look at it. Just to make sure that nothing happens to it, they armed six
Today we searched the shipwreck, that we found and found many cool things. The ship had 6 cannon ports and we believe that the ship had two masts. Also we found this ship 4,363 feet below sea. In the ship we found musket parts, ceramic cups and dishes, clothing, and a toothbrush. These items were from all over the world. The items were from Britain, China, Mexico, and and Canada. After we found these items I was extremely ecstatic, because I did not think we would find things like that. Also the items gave us clues to what kind of ship this was. We believe that the ship was a government paid ship, that went around the world and made sure the sea was safe. Lastly, there were two other ships found nearby and by our findings in the first
For example, how long it was, or how much it weighed. We could find things with names on it and really know who traveled on the Titanic. I think the Titanic should be perserved because the ship will deteriorate. Many fish and organisms live around the ship. They are more than likely eating it
The Titanic was also in water. Another thing is that the Titanic sunk. These are some facts about the Titanic.
Relevance Statement: (Many of you have probably heard of the Titanic or even seen the movie but there is so many more details and facts that people are unaware of.)
They soon discovered the submarines bow planes were buried; the bow tanks full of sand. The propellers were torn off, steering gear ruined, stern tanks flooded, and all the hatches were desperately jammed.
I have been fascinated by the history of the Titanic for as long as I can remember.
