Don’t you wonder what love feels like every time you hear about a romance that has occurred? In nearly every story the lovers get what they want and end up living happily ever after, but did you know that not every love story has ended that way? In fact in the two stories Titanic and Romeo and Juliet, the lovers never did get what they wanted and ended in a tragedy. Although every story has its own plot events, these two stories happen to be quite similar in various ways.
The plot events take a big part in how the two versions compare. To begin with, Titanic was based on true events that happened to real people of the past, and Romeo and Juliet was completely made up. William Shakespeare based the story on things that could occur in the

Rose and Juliet were both teens when they had met their lovers, but Rose was older by 3 years. In both of the stories, the lovers both had the initials R and J. The character’s parents were also very flat characters. You never knew much about them, except that they did not approve of the relationships. Rose and Jack didn’t really try to hide their love and went out in public, but Romeo and Juliet, on the other hand, chose to try to sneak around and their parents never really realized anything until their death. The main antagonist in Titanic was Caledon. He did many things to cause trouble like taking Rose’s necklace and sneaking it into Jack’s coat pocket, getting Jack arrested, hitting Rose across the face, and involving others into his own jealous acts. However, in Romeo and Juliet, the antagonist was Juliet's cousin Tybalt. Tybalt never accepted Romeo and personally challenged Romeo to battle, which resulted in a fray and two dead.
The settings were also a big reason to why things were the way they were. Romeo and Juliet took place in Verona, Italy back in the Elizabethan era where many strict rules were set for crime, marriages, and punishment. The Elizabethan era separated its people by middle, upper, and lower class. The way they spoke back clued you in on what classification they were. They spoke in sonnets, rhymed verse, and prose. On the other hand, Titanic took place in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean where nothing but personal classification took
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both have a lot in common as well as major differences that set them apart. Although West Side Story is a direct rendition of Shakespeare's original play, many of the themes and symbols are altered to fit the modern perspective. The characters have a direct correlation to each other, yet racial issues give them a new light. Many of the events also reflect each other, yet small differences give them uniqueness. West Side Story differs from Romeo and Juliet in characterizations, plot sequences, and themes.
There are many similarities and differences between the sixties version of Romeo and Juliet and the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It is very easy to spot these differences considering the time period each movie was set in. There are some things in the play that totally got cut from both movies. There are also some things that they added to the movies that weren’t in the play. Let us get on to the similarities and differences.
Of all the treasures in the world, true love is of the most valued. They say that when you are truly in love, the universe around you simply stops, and no one else matters except you and your love. Love has the mesmerizing beauty of a stunning red rose, but it also has spiteful thorns surrounding it. But between friends and family, love can quickly go from black and white to shades of grey and can become fatal and suspenseful.
The time period of the play and the time period of the movie are very different. In the movie, the prologue was on a T.V. screen and it was not in the play. Also in the movie, they used cars instead of horses to get around. In the movie, Romeo and his friends always smoked and would take drugs and they did not do that in the play. In the play, the different families owned castles and in the movie they own different businesses and buildings. They also had guns instead of swords in the movie. Also in the movie, they dressed more modern than they would have in the play.
Romeo and Juliet is a very well known book that is loved by many. There numerous movies done on Romeo and Juliet like Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 version and Gnomeo and Juliet. There are many apparent differences like using guns instead of swords and using gnomes instead of people. Although there are many similarities, the differences between Luhrmann’s movie and Gnomeo and Juliet compared to the play Romeo and Juliet are evident. The similarities between the movie and the play only go down to the plot and language.
In the 1996 Romeo Juliet movie, Baz Lurhman kept an authentic text, but updates the setting and makes Shakespeare familiar to a whole new generation. It is easier for the audience to understand what is happening even if they do not really understand the text. The 1996 movie updates Shakespeare in a good way that made many people truly understand the text and be interested in it.
On this online encyclopedia, there is a page dedicated to Romeo & Juliet filled with various resources and information; one such source being an essay on Zeffirelli 's and Luhrmann’s version of Romeo & Juliet by Bryan Aubrey. In this essay, Aubrey compares the two films
was the first film of Romeo and Juliet. It was produced in 1968 and it
Romeo and Juliet’s relationship and motivation is very like much of today’s teen society. The first similarity in the play is the way the teens and adults say and do certain things to get something done in their favor. In example, Juliet chooses her words wisely as she speaks to Count Paris so that she does not commit herself to him or say that she doesn’t want to marry him. Teens today do this to talk themselves out of tuff situations by misleading whoever they are talking to.
The tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet” was originally a play created by William Shakespeare, one of many world famous plays by the same. This play has been converted into its intended style many times in the past, the earliest version in 1968 was directed by Franco Zeffirelli, the latest film in 1996 by Baz Luhrmann. The latter is quite modern and only occassionally uses the words of Shakespeare. On the contrary, the older version was very traditional, and almost completely stuck to the original script. In this essay, I will compare the modern day film to the traditional version of the tragic play, “Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet Outline Romeo and Juliet is a timeless classic that readers will enjoy over and over again. A. One reason Romeo and Juliet is a timeless classic is because over the ages people can always relate to the plot. B. Another reason is that although there have been other writer’s version of Romeo and Juliet, no one has been able to portray the story like Shakespeare.
The scene that was most different between the play and the movie of Romeo and Juliet was how the two crossed lovers first met each other. In the play Romeo and the Montague boys find out about the Capulet party through a poor peasant who could not read the invitations. While in the movie the Capulet party is announced through a newscast over T.V. I think the director changed this so the invite can go more along with the time period of the movie. This could change how the viewers see it by making the invite less secret. Over a newscast anyone who was paying attention to the T.V. could of heard the invite. Another main difference in this scene would be Romeo and Juliet first seeing each other in the bathroom across a fish tank rather than across the ballroom in the play. This could take away from the romantic side of the two first seeing each other. In the play it seems Romeo and Juliet have more privacy when they first speak to each other. In the movie the two are getting on and off an elevator just not to be seen. This could add more suspense to the scene and make the viewers see the movie from a lofty viewpoint.
The tale of Romeo and Juliet is extraordinary. The original story is very good and very well written. The more modern story is very different from the original. In the original the families hate each other, in the modern the families are actually friends. This is what I found to be the same and different about the two stories.
Many love stories end up in success, while many others are defined as a tragedy. Some are consistent and always flow good, while others lead to very dangerous acts. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, we see the controversies between two families and what they lead to. Shakespeare expresses love and hate through similes and by Romeo’s actions to emphasize how love is a powerful emotion.
puts a story on the screen and into life so that people can see it.
