Ambition has changed the way people lived drastically throughout the years, affecting their lives and their decisions. Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Macbeth is a play of how one man’s ambition to do whatever he can to get what he wants . The banquet in Macbeth shows how Lady Macbeth acts throughout the play to obtain her desires at any cost. As Lady Macbeth pushes Macbeth in the play, Macbeth deals with guilt as it continues to torment him and overshadows ambition. In the final stages of the play, it shows how much ambition and guilt has changed throughout the play. The banquet in Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Macbeth, Shakespeare shows how characters dealt with guilt, and how ambition grows as it torments the characters throughout the play.
With his shield, Aegua, he was believed to be the god able to create any of the Phenomena that the greeks had seen in the sky. He was considered to be the ruler of the realms of the sky and air, and controlled anything that happened within them. Because he was the ruler of the sky, and had helped free the Cyclops, they rewarded him with the thunder bolt, a powerful weapon that allowed him to hurl lightning bolts at anything or anyone he desired. He was known to have a short temper, and to throw lightning at anyone who made him angry, particularly liers and oath breakers. He also used it on anyone who fell in love with his wife, even though he had many affairs. He is generally thought of as “wise, fair, just, merciful, and prudent. He was also unpredictable – nobody was able to guess the decisions he would make”(greekgodsandgoddesses.net). He tried to protect people from wrongdoing, punishing those who did, and is also the god of hospitality and quests, ready to fix any wrong done to a stranger. His main symbol is the lightening bolt, as it is his favorite weapon, but he has also been represented as an eagle, as it sees all, much like him from Mount Olympus, a bull to
As Hephaestus is notified of Thetis’ arrival, he explores what their relationship has meant to him. Hephaestus recalls that “Thetis saved my life when the mortal pain came on me after my great fall…” (P. 480) After Hephaestus falls out of Zeus’ good graces, Thetis is able to lend her helping hand, displaying the hierarchical dynamic between the gods. The gods are indebted to each other, the likely reason that Hephaestus felt as though he needed to make Thetis the ornate shield. The duty and obligation to each other fuels the mutualistic relationships between the gods. Thetis’ motivation to help Hephaestus was not solely out of kindness; rather Thetis saw the opportunity to make a strategic move and put Hephaestus in her debt, knowing that she very well could use his services in her future. Hephaestus describes the pain that he felt as “mortal pain” signifying a distinction between the discomforts and vulnerability of mortals and gods.

Titans are a part of Greek mythology and were greater than the gods but to me, the Titans are a football team. And not just any football team, my hometown football team. Remember the Titans is a movie proclaimed as one of the greatest football films in history, next to that of The Blind Side and Rudy. This football movie has a special place in my heart that is more than just one hundred twenty yards, a touchdown and a field goal combined. Remember the Titans is based on the true story of T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia where the black and white schools were combined into one. Although some racial tension was exaggerated in the movie, it still shows the football team’s efforts to overcome blatant differences towards a common
In The Odyssey The Great Odysseus encounters the god Poseidon, and the goddess Athena that impact his life in negative and positive aspects, but none of these impacts could have been done without the decision of Odysseus himself. Mortals venerate these gods and goddesses; from a young age they’re taught to respect them or bad karma may come their way. As a human nature we make absurd mistakes without consent and analysis, Odysseus’s greatest mistake was his ignorant decision on attacking Poseidon’s son, “Hear me Poseidon...if I really am your son, and you claim to be my father grant that odysseus, raider of cities, Laertes son who makes his home in Ithaca never reaches home” ( Homer 228) Poseidon receives this message from his son, and his wrath gives misfortune on
His roman name was Mars. He was a simple warrior with swift feet. Usually appears in wars and battles. He rides a chariot, wearing a helmet on his head, and in his hands, he is holding a shield, a sword or a spear. Although fierce and warlike, Ares wasn’t invincible, even against mortals.
This was the god believed to have powers that controlled the storms. The other name he was known as is Ishkur.
Hydra, a water serpent, was born to the most fearful monsters in all of Greek mythology, Typhon and Echidna. Mythology tells the story of a terrible battle between Typhon and the gods. Typhon picked up Mount Aetna to throw at the gods, but Zeus struck down the mountain which fell on top of Typhon trapping him underneath for all of eternity. Echidna fled in hope to protect her children. Zeus decided to let her children live as a challenge for future heroes. Echidna then became regarded as the mother of all the major Greek mythological monsters.
In my research I have learned an addition of facts and stories about Greek mythology. Like how “the Pegasus and Chrysor came from the blood of Medusa’s head after Perseus cut it off” (Greek Mythology). Or how the “Amazonian group of warriors was all females” (Greek Mythology). The more that I have research about my topic the more fascinating and interesting it becomes. I hope that everyone will further their research and knowledge on this topic whether it’s reading a book, researching on the Internet, or even just watching a movie.
Human emotions are something that we seldom find a way to express clearly: from simple hand gestures, to a disgusted face. To understand his novel more thoroughly, Arthur Miller uses the most understandable method of comprehension, music, to express the emotions of the characters in his play, "Death of a Salesman". The characters, Willy, Linda, Biff, Happy, and Ben, have a certain style of music and instruments portraying them to show the reader what type of emotional person they are.
In Greek mythology, there is always a perpetual notion of power. The desire for power is associated with the father figure of a family. Furthermore, a father sets the tone for his family by setting rules and establishing their reputation. From the beginning of time, there has been angst in losing power, starting with the Earth and sky. Arising fear occurs when a father finds that one of his children is a threat to his throne. It also develops when a father realizes that since he sabotaged his own father, potentially his child could the same. Taking into consideration both of these cases, it is understood that a male parent in ancient Greek consciousness seeks a role having power. This thirst for power has resulted in the betrayal of wives and the attempt to destroy an upbringing of children. Through the fatherhood of Ouranos, Cronos, and Zeus, it is clear that their role is to exercise dominance, moreover keep away potential threats.
Greek Mythology has influenced many “monsters” we reference in various works of current literature. Anywhere from 3 headed dogs to women with snakes for locks of hair, all of these deformed common things originated from Mythology. Not only do we still reference the monsters themselves in all forms of art today but also we implement the qualities the monsters posses unto characters in our stories.
