Children have been taught for as long as anyone can remember. It is a known fact that even if children did not attend schools, they learned at least something from someone. As we have become more developed in recent years, children are required to go to school, but the emphasis on academic achievement has become expected more than ever meaning children have to learn social and life skills from somewhere else. The people around you are constantly teaching you even if you do not recognize it. In the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Lee shows us how important an educational home environment is for Jem and Scout Finch. Not all teaching comes from within the classroom, so the three people who teach Jem and Scout outside the classroom are Atticus, Calpurnia, and Mrs. Dubose.
Out of all the characters in this novle Atticus shows his teaching even if he didn’t mean to. In this novel it is seen that Atticus teaches the children examples of fighting for what you believe in. Atticus is and example of a person with an open mind a heart to anything that needs an answer. An example of how he fights for what he believes in is Atticus lawyers for tom Robinson in the court case even though he known that he will lose either way. The court case is a symbol of how people treated each other at the time. There are no laws in the African Americans favor. From this exact reason Atticus took the court case. He wants to show the people of Macomb county that there are good African American
