“It's a sin to kill a Mockingbird” it is a quote that transcends time; Now, this can mean many things, because all mockingbirds do is sing and spread happiness. Humans can also represent mockingbirds because of our diversity, and our uniqueness. Sometimes people are very hard to understand, but the only way that we do understand is if you climbed in their shoes.

He is very consistent and rooted in his beliefs, he is the same in his alone time and when he isn't. Atticus screams his song, he doesn't whisper it, or speak it, he screams. “It doesn't matter if you're black or white”(By-Michael Jackson) This song most closely represents his beliefs, in the book he always states that he is color blind to skin. This is huge because in the town he is surrounded by racism, and for him to say he is color blind to skin, is meaningful to the black community. Not all heroes wear capes, and that's where he shines. He is the start to a new meaning of what equality should be.

Tom is a very intelligent and a well mannered man, but has decided face the jury knowing the outcome was predetermined and an attempt to clear his name. Not only is he standing up for himself but he is standing up for all the injustices that all black people had to face when accused of a white person. Being in the time the book took place and even now, black people are assumed guilty because of the color of their skin. That is a big step for Tom because this could be a big change for the way people think. The song “Get up,Stand up” By Bob Marley, shows what Tom is being tried for. “Get up, stand up,Stand up for your right,Get up,stand up,Don't give up the fight” Tom stood up for his perceived rights, to include black people. Imagine the pain he had to go threw after being accused of raping a young girl. He stood for his rights, listened and made his points. Smith 3 To kill a mockingbird is like killing music, your destroying the ability to be empowered

Modern forms of this include racial profiling, discrimination, and assumption of guilt. The author of the book, Brian Stevenson, discusses in the book numerous instances in which he himself was the victim of racial profiling and discrimination. He was racially profiled by cops while parked in front of his own house. They pointed a gun at his head and illegally searched his car, and then told him that he was lucky because they were going to let him go (Stevenson 39-42). Later in the book, during Walter’s trial, he, along with all the other black people who are there to support Walter McMillan, is discriminated against by courtroom officials. They were refusing to let any black people in to the courtroom. The guard did not know that Stevenson was the attorney, and so he refused to let him in until Stevenson told the guard who he was (Stevenson 174). Stevenson is not alone in these types of experiences. Every single one of his clients, and their families, are the victims of racism and

people and see things from their point of view. Scout learns and understands this lesson firsthand
I feel like this quote definitely shows the overall theme of the book, and not just because of the title. I feel like the message that the quote is trying to send is that it is a sin to simply judge, or harm people when they have proven that they do not deserve this punishment it’s not fair, and dare I say immoral. With that said, I add that I feel like the quote in a way uses the mockingbird as a synonym for Tom, he has done no harm. Yet is treated unfairly as if he did.
The narrator is not the only colored man in the novel to be judged by racist stereotyping. While the
I remember how shocked I was when reading the book. It tore me up coming forth something about seeing the world through her eyes scaring showing me pain and discomfort in my character. Scout herself alone does not know the social norms of that time. She just wants to enjoy being a kid.
Atticus is a wise man, committed to justice and equality, and his parenting style is based on fostering these virtues in his children—he even encourages Jem and Scout to call him “Atticus” so that they can interact on terms as equal as possible. Throughout the novel, Atticus works to develop Scout’s and Jem’s respective consciences, through both teaching, as when he tells Scout to put herself in a person’s shoes before she judges them, and example, as when he takes Tom Robinson’s case, living up to his own moral standards despite the harsh consequences he knows he will face. Atticus is a kind and loving

The author writes, “‘Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.’” That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it. ‘Your father’s right,’ she said. ‘Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.’” This is when the idea of the mockingbird being a symbol throughout the novel comes into play. Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee paints a picture of certain characters being mockingbirds. Many can be identified, such as Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, and even Atticus Finch. All three were innocents that were attacked by evil, thus being mockingbirds.

Slaves were able to connect, and change the hearts ofthose who might have supported slavery, but by people reading their passionate stories, they became sympathetic. This account shows that passion and hard work can help anyone succeed their goals, including showing the government the God-given rights everyone deserves! In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus chooses to uphold his rights in order for Tom Robinson to have a chance at his own. One of the characters asks, “If you shouldn’t be defending him, then why are you doing it?” (Lee 100). Atticus responds, “If I didn’t I couldn’t hold up my head… I couldn’t represent this country in legislature” (Lee 100). In this instance, Lee uses Atticus as an example of how citizens should uphold their rights, even if they are doing some work solely for the benefit of others’ rights. Today, we can guarantee the rights of ourselves and others around us by acting justly, and standing up for right, even when everyone is telling us we’re
