The United States is a land that was created through war. To end a war we must have a solid army to defend the things we want to achieve. Whether its freedom from our fathering country’s or to show the power we have. Understanding how we have come to be from wars like the French and Indian war that sparked the beginning of the American revolution and the military culture and how the experience and significance of our country’s soldiers and militia men compared and brings us to our American military culture and the value’s of American thought, culture, and society. We would not have things like “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”, if it wasn’t for our great nations military force. As only one in ten citizens has served in the US Army, American knowledge of military conditions is rapidly lessening along with the national harmony that complements such knowledge. In 2014, according to the Department of Defense (DoD) there were 2.2 million Americans serving the military (Hurt, By the Numbers). At the dawn of 2014, there were 317 million members of the American society (Schlesinger, 2014 US). This means less than 1 percent of Americans were serving within the Armed Forces. This small group of the nation’s population comes from every corner of the country and from all walks of life; each one carrying their own set of morals, work ethic, intellect and aspirations. Unfortunately, many of them will have a value system not consistent with the military tradition. These subpar members will not be discovered until years after entrance to the DoD. There is a problem with the current process for entering the military. In order to combat this issue, the DoD should be more selective and discerning during its screening process in order to thwart predators, deny incompetent individuals access to firearms and increasing the quality of troops for the nation to depend on.

The United States army known as the Military is a great gift to the people in America. The Military is an army in which fights for our country voluntarily. Also theirs many reasons I believe the Military is a gift to our generation such as soliders protect us, sacrifice there life so others don't have to, and volunteer freely. Military spending affects everyone living in the US, because the nation’s defense is what keeps us safe. Think about this- world threats are rising, and we are an international superpower. Although increased military spending could result in more national debt issues, it would provide a strong defense network for the country and create more military jobs and income.

In society the word “soldier” creates importance. The common usage of the word is an individual who fights or is a part of an army. In the United States a soldier displays utmost importance. The natural feeling one can get when encountering a soldier is pride, freedom, bravery and safety. When looking back to US history a soldier has proven essential to priceless building of American character. The struggles of injustice and fear have been and still continue to be defended with soldiers. The United States invests and trains thousands of soldiers. The Army, Navy, Air force, and Marines are just a few branches of the US military that characterizes the meaning of national pride. Although, the world encounters different perspectives with the term “soldiers”; they can be the opposite of an opposing countries ideology. The US loves their soldier, but countries that have lost to the US military see soldiers inducing fear, power and havoc. The Iraq and Iran wars are seen from the US to gain freedom from possible terror but innocent civilians of these countries see US soldiers as raiders, bringing fear and posing hostility (Dreazen). They fight for something and thus this is the drive to making a soldier.

I have known from an early age that in most group situations, I will be unlike a majority of the people around me. After taking Lewis’ Cultural Classification Survey, I learned a little more vividly why I have the perception that I never quite fit in with my colleagues. There are many different components to war, far beyond the soldiers and battlefields. Soldiers at war may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence of battle, but societies at war deal with the compromise. War requires more non-renewable resources than any other industry in the world, the most abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been in some sort of conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day. Humans require more basic necessities than any other living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war are endless and can have massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations, educational institutions, and much, much more. With The US having actively participated in war almost the entirety of its existence, war has been impacting everyone and everything in existence be it living or not. Humans alone, without the resources necessary to participate in war, require at least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life. Beyond that there are human needs such as clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each of these individuals it is mandatory to obtain one outfit of clothing, one meal a day that is sufficient enough to avoid poor nutrition, one place to sleep. For the women and women of our armed forces these needs are met and merely more.
