Hi Peeps,
Today's Quote
Evil is a weapon used by the devil to assist you in doing harm to your loved ones, if you disobey God!" ~ Jon Barnes
Why Not
Why not listen to the warnings and instructions that God gives us the first time, so that we can avoid pain, suffering, and anguish? Evil thoughts always comes from the devil, so resist and he will flee. Make peace and love your family, neighbors, brothers and sisters, as you love yourself.
Disobey
God teaches us how to master sin, but we choose not to listen and follow His lifestyle and commandments. As a result, generations are effected by our pride, greed, lust, and evil ways. Crazy Kings and slave labor seems to be the standard narrative of old.
Obey
God rewards good behavior and
Why can't you be successful? Maybe the only reason people are successful is simply because of luck. Benjamin Franklin once stated that diligence is the mother of good luck. While there are factors in our lives that can’t be controlled, ultimately it’s up to the individual to overcome their obstacles. With that being said many of the factors that can not be controlled can expand an individual's success.
1. Of the "Top 10 All-time Stupid Quotes," I found number 4 the most interesting. In this quote, Sean Covey says," This 'telephone' has too many shortcoming to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us." I found this quote interesting because nowadays, who communicates by writing letters. Everyone has a phone and that is how we communicate with each other. If we don't talk to each other by text, then it is by a simple phone call that we receive instantly, rather waiting about a week for a letter to come in the mail. I couldn't image having to write letters to speak to anyone. Using phones is so much for simpler.
In other words, some people refer to evil as sin and suffering; others think of it as a separation from God while still more people personify it in the form of satan. My purpose here is not to discuss what form evil may take in an individual's life even though it may come up periodically. The central fact remains that evil, in one form or another, does exist and anyone not willing to believe in this reality quite frankly lives in a different dimension. Either that, or they simply live in a total state of denial! Keeping all this in mind, what I want to accomplish in this paper is to first explore the idea that evil is a relative term that exists within the context of each situation. Ah, yes! Even as I wrote that last sentence, I could see the wheels turning in your head. But not to worry. I will clarify soon. From this point, I will seek the wisdom of people who have tried to answer these tough questions proposed on the first page, come to some more conclusions through personal interviews and then end on a more personal note, using the help of my life experience as a Christian. This topic hits me hard at times. I often find myself in reflection, trying to formulate an answer to the evil that I see, and yes, the evil that I do. This evil will sometimes leave me feeling totally powerless and at its mercy. Yet I never give up hope for I know that just through the process of writing this paper, some new insights will be
Have you ever thought that one specific group was being judged or discriminated against based on superficial characteristics alone? The young adult novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton demonstrates the abuse of the lower class, the Greasers, by the higher class, the Socs, and reveals the social hierarchy that remains in the world to this day. This book reveals the systematic oppression of the Greasers that is determined by wealth, not worth, despite them all truly being the same. This is demonstrated through the actions of numerous character. Examples of this include when Ponyboy and Cherry Valance realise that despite their differences they all live under the same sun, how Bob’s rings represent the social power that the Socs have over the Greasers, and finally the notion that nothing will ever change between the Greasers and the Socs.
The way the world is surrounded by technology, not being able to understand technology is difficult but not “death in life”. Today, almost anything on paper is easily accessed on a laptop or smartphone. However, if you're technologically illiterate, you still have access to everything on paper, you just may have to look harder for it. In the text, Carole says “Now I can read, I can read books, anything. I can write. In English and French.” When I read that quote, I think of Carole's troubles when learning to read on paper, now she has to learn all over again on a laptop. Personally, I find it very hard to read off of a smartboard or laptop and I can only think of the struggles coming Carole's way in the 21st century. Some challenges could be,
As Hick said it “evil is unambiguously evil, and stands in direct opposition to God’s will”
What is evil? Is it characterized by a desire to cause hurt or harm, “an evil mood”? What causes people to do evil? The strong feelings of hatred and dislike that builds up in all of us or simply that all our emotions are constantly on the dark side for such a long period of time. What is right from wrong when the hate in our hearts makes us all make terrible mistakes and commit evil. The writings of Confucius say, “There is no light without darkness, no positive without negative, no good without evil.” Throughout the history of humanity, humans have committed inconceivable and unthinkable acts of cruelty towards one another. From the brutal wars during the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans, to the modern
When I think of the concept of “evil,” I think of The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. In The Consolation of Philosophy, Lady Philosophy stated:
The quote I found most interesting is "Nothing of importance happened today." I find that quote most interesting out of the 10 other quotes because, something important always happens everyday. It may be so small you do not realize it is important but it is. For instants something important that happened to me one day was riding the bus. I was just having a normal day and suddenly a girl sat next to me. I did not think much of at the moment but it is now a year later and she is one of my best friends. So something may not seem important at the moment but it is.
By definition, evil is an act or feeling that is “profoundly immoral and malevolent”. The problem is that evil is a subjective term. Each person sees evil differently.
In the story “Crito” Socrates was in jail awaiting the day when he would have to drink hemlock for the charges he was convicted of. Crito comes one day to try and convince Socrates to escape one more time. Crito has many reason why he thinks Socrates should escape. Socrates listens to what Crito has to say about escaping but, disagrees with him.
evil creates or brings good. Yet, if there was only good we would not have to
Everyday it is possible to read a newspaper, or turn on TV or radio news and learn about evil going on in our world. Banks are robbed, cars are stolen, violent murders and rapes are committed. Somewhere in the world the aftershock of an earthquake is being felt. Cancer is killing millions of people each year, while other debilitating conditions continue to affect many with no cure to end their suffering. President Bush said that our country is fighting a war against evil. We all agree that evil is real and cannot be ignored; the problem comes when we try and rationalize the concept of God and evil coexisting.
Evil, as mentioned before, is commonly referred to the act or actions that go directly against what is to be considered good. Good, or a set or morals and believes, have differed between the many generation that have existed over time. One must properly understand that what they believe to be pure evil could be seen as doing the right thing in the eyes of others. Evil has a very bias perception to its definition, but is always measured by the same means no matter where what and when it is describes. Evil is the
Let it not be forgotten then at the outset of our discussion on God and evil, that the rampant lawlessness and many faces of evil that we see around us is not just the mere issue of man’s doings. It is according to Saint Paul, none other than Satan’s operation (v. 9a) in all power and signs and wonders of a lie, and in all deceit of unrighteousness (vv. 9b, 10). The modern mind with its scientific enlightenment, and anti-supernatural outlook, easily askew the personification of evil. But the clear testimony of scripture is that evil is not just a “thing”, a mere act of wrongdoing or transgression.
