The Probation Officer and Offender role has been widely examined, specifically in regards to the effective management of risk (McNeill, 2009, NOMS 2010). Within this, it is recognised that the relationship between these individuals is paramount to the effective management of risk and offending behaviour. There have been numerous working practices introduced throughout the years within the Probation Service to identify effective working practices including the Effective Practice Principles and latterly, Skills for Effective Engagement, Development and Supervision known by the acronym SEEDS (Rex & Hosking, 2013). Your paper was clear and informative, it provided detailed information regarding your focus of the topic. In my opinion, probation and correctional officers share some similarities pertaining to their clients and also their needs. Both officers should be able overtime, to provide information pertaining to the needs of that individual. However, due to the work settings, probation officers have more lead way and resources to assist clients. I believe that with patience, time, and good interpersonal skills, a probation officer can successfully connect and assist their clients

Great assessment of the clients needs furthermore clients who have convictions regarding sexual offenses with minors are even more difficult due to resources being limited in the community especially, housing. However in CT probation is a tremendous help when it comes to housing individual with these kind of convictions. We have a few halfway houses which are group setting and shelters specifically used for sex offenders in different towns. Although, you live in Idaho they may have some services that might assist you. Most times they don’t advertise this assistance because it limited however if you can advocate for the client it could help. I have worked as a case manager for last 15 years and we have to find solutions for all types of clients
Brock ‘s probation officer occupation researched the offender's background as far back into the past as possible, and attempt to create a sentence for him to present to the court based on that information. (Turner, 2016). The probation officer knew the case was Brock’s first offense and fought to get him a lesser sentence by adding about his swimmer scholarship, he had to surrender, how he was less intoxicated than the victim was, as well how young he is at only eighteen years old during the court trial (Turner, 2016). The probation officer did a great job in being there for his client and in hopes to get Brock’s life back on track in the right direction.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were over 4 million adults on probation in the United States in 2010. Today more and more agencies have shifted from simply monitoring an offender’s compliance to using evidenced based practices to reduce recidivism rates. The intense involvement with offenders caused by this shift exposes officers to many new stressors that previously did not exist. A recent study by Kirsten R. Lewis, M.Ed., Ladonna S. Lewis, Ph.D., and Tina M. Garby, Psy.D., examined whether specific caseload events are associated with stress and burnout among this career specialty using various survey instruments. The results confirmed 2 of their hypothesis that officers “who reported violent and sexual recidivism on their caseloads, offender suicide, and threats and/or assaults in the line of duty scored significantly higher on measures of traumatic stress and burnout…” Length of service was also a contributing factor. The authors’ report of job stress on probation officers is applicable to any human service professional and especially supervisors, managers and administrators who have the capacity to make meaningful change by creating training programs and establishing ways to deal with the negative caseload events. The small study sample limited reliability of the results and more data is needed to assess the overall problem. Ms. K. R. Lewis is a probation officer with the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department and is an adjunct

While it may be more exciting and relevant to read the work of contemporary thinkers, it is also beneficial for aspiring sociologists to familiarize themselves with the work of earlier theorists. As our world progresses and society becomes more self aware, we discover issues and angles that the founders of sociology missed. Even though studying the founders comes across contradictory at times because sociologists are interested in correcting social injustices and most of the earlier theorists discriminated against one or more marginalized groups, it provides us with a foundation to build on for the work we do today. The purpose of this paper is to connect the work of two theorists, Jane Addams and Emile Durkheim, with my research projects, which will eventually become my dissertation. Both of these theorists are considered members of the sociological cannon and influenced the work of later theorists. My dissertation will focus on how probation officers are situated in society and the challenges faced by people suffering from mental illness coming into contact with the criminal justice system. It will explore the welfare of officers, treatment of offenders, and the overall role of community supervision in the community. I will introduce my work and explain how the ideas of Addams and Durkheim are associated with my approach to this contemporary issue. It is important to note that I am currently the Assistant Chief at the Atlanta Felony Probation Office and will also be
