Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. But mostly, they shouldn't get paid as much money. At this point, athletes are paid way more than people who save lives. Should athletes deserve getting paid this much? For example: Matthew Stafford is paid over 200 million and he's not even that good of a quarterback in the NFL . There are also a lot of other players in football and basketball. There should not be a 100 million dollar contracts on average. There should be 10 to 30 million dollar contracts on average. There is also people like Tom Brady he should have a lesser contract but he still is a very good quarterback in the NFL , he was even pretty good as a second string quarterback at the university of Michigan.

Jimmy Garoppolo will make 42.6 Million dollars more than Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield was voted the best player in NCAA football and Jimmy Garoppolo was a 2nd string QB at the beginning of the year. Jimmy Garoppolo make 469 times the average american male’s salary. Baker Mayfield is going to college for free but he still deserves a portion of the money that the college makes. Colleges can make a upward of $100 MIllion from 1 sport and what do they do with all that money? Yes they may have expenses but they still have money left over. NCAA athletes deserve to get paid because for the most part their statistics are better, they make money for the college, and they are the future.

NFL players should not be making as much as people that save lives and change the world deserve more. “The President ,who makes critical decisions that affect the entire world every day only makes $400,000 a year”. All these NFL players do is entertain the public and that has no impact on the world at all so why do they make more than the President of the United States? That’s a question that no one has been able to answer with a good reason behind it because it makes no sense.

Although the NFL has more valuable teams then the NBA, it’s a different story when it comes to player. The king of the NBA, LeBron James, makes 64.6 million dollars in total earnings. LeBron James makes 15.7 million dollars more then the highest paid player in the NFL, Ben Roethlisburger, making him the king of both leagues. When comparing the averages of total earnings of the five highest paid players in both leagues, the result is that the NBA average is 13.22 million dollars more then the NFL average. The second highest paid player in the NBA is Kevin Durant who makes 54 million dollars in total earnings, but makes a huge 35 million dollars of his total earnings in endorsements. Wouldn't it be great to make $100 million a year simply to play a game? JJ Watt, along with other professional athletes think so. But do these athletes really deserve all that money? In my opinion I think there paychecks are a little too much .

When professional athletes get drafted or picked for a team, there is a chance that one player can get picked or drafted for over a million dollars. Some NFL players get paid multimillion dollar salaries for just playing football for entertainment. Odell Beckham Jr. signed a contract for the New York Giants for $10,406,198 just for 4 years. These kind of athletes don’t need to be paid so much money for playing on the field. Professional athletes do not need to be paid so much money for playing a professional sport.

These leagues consist of salary capped multi-year player option and team-option contracts unlike the MLB. The MLB is different in many ways as they able to offer multi-year contracts and no salary cap in which the 10 year contract of Alex Rodriquez worth 30 million dollars per year has him tops in the league. This factor puts into perspective the difference in how the professions pay charts differ from no salary cap in the MLB to guaranteed money caps for the NBA and NFL alike. To understand the impact of such contracts, we focus on the collegiate athlete.

My opinion on this on this problem is that athletes should be paid because they work just as hard as all pro athletes. They deserve recognition for what they're doing. With the motivation to make this money they'll play harder and harder to collect their pay. You can get the most out of people if money is involved. They say money is the root of all evil but this can make money be the root success. More money being paid to them the more success they can have in their seasons.

If I could pay someone $25 million a year to get him/her on my team and generate $30 million, why not hire that player? The salary cap for the NFL is $102.5 million per team, and we currently have 32 teams, so we the public are paying 3.28 billion to those teams. Currently America is in a 11 trillion dollar debt, if athletes could get paid $150,000/year then we could save 1 billion dollars a year. The monetary worth of athletes exceeds the value that any one individual is actually worth. League officials should be using salary caps, negotiations, and legal tactics. Athletes' salaries are in increasing problem for the economy of our modern world. Although the sports have their own equal distributions, the overwhelming salaries of the leagues' highest paid players have made the average of salaries higher and higher each year.
