The first person to receive an unjust consequence is Erik, who orders Arthur, his crony, to hit Luis atop his head, this caused Luis to have an aneurysm and die. Paul, Erik's brother, saw Erik order Arthur to hit Luis and later told Luis’ brother, Tino, about what he saw. Erik believed he had everything under control and thought nothing of the consequences, until later on in the book when Tino avenged Luis’ death. “Tino brought his right leg up and around in a vicious karate kick that doubled Erik over” (Bloor 258).
In Edward Bloor’s novel Tangerine, brotherhood is one of the main themes clearly expressed from the beginning of the story. From Erik’s rocky relationship with Paul, to Paul’s trust with Luis, these relationships contribute to both the suspense and surprise in the book. Although Paul and Erik are related by blood, their relationship can be seen as very different and even problematic. Erik is very mean and hostile towards Paul. “(Erik) poked the bat at me. “We’ll decide what’s going to happen to you.”(...) “who’s going to believe you, you blind geek? You’re blind!” (Bloor 262). This is unbelieveably the two brother’s relationship throughout the story, Paul’s glasses can be seen as weakness to his own brother. This displays their lack of a strong

A quote that captures the theme of the novel is “ Further, the four-minute mile had to be won alone. There could be no teammates to blame, no coach during halftime to inspire a comeback. One might hide behind the excuses of cold weather, an unkind wind, a slow track or jostling competition but ultimately these obstacles had to be defied. Winning a foot race, particularly one waged against the clock, was ultimately a battle with oneself, over oneself. The three men, John Landy,Roger Bannister and Wes Santee put it to the test and overcame mental and physical challenges, defeated criticism and were determined to break the barrier.

In this play, Joe’s keepsake is somehow being a symbol on how traditional, or even mental, a person can be when he could not make peace with his past in his life. From what I have observed, Terry considers Joe ’s keepsake as a burden because he sees it only as a mere collection of things packed in a suitcase, of course it would be a heavy burden if it has to be carried everywhere. Basically, he looks at it by just the logical point of view.

The Film The Searchers by John Ford tells an emotionally complex story of hate-ridden quest and also explores the themes of racial prejudice. It gives you a first-hand look of the origin and meaning of Racial Hatred and Ethan and Scar are used to portray and symbolize that. Ethan also harbors a bitter hatred of Indians (though he knows their lore and language well). Ethan’s racism and fear of miscegenation manifest themselves so often that a couple of examples of him at his most vindictive should do: Firstly, when he shoots the eyes out of the dead Indian, eternally damning him to ‘wander forever between the winds’. Secondly, when he shoots at an enormous herd of buffalo, figuring that ‘Killin’ buffalo’s as good as killin’ Injuns in this country’.
