At first cancer was seen as an untreatable disease, and that was in 1600 BC by the Egyptians, even to this day it has been a reoccurring struggle to cure. (Lieberman) Cancer: “A disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body” (English Oxford Living Dictionaries ). This definition expresses that in fact cancer is uncontrollable, which causes it to be difficult to treat. The whole purpose of this research paper is to expose why cancer is so difficult to treat. Over thousands of years many diseases, viruses, and bacteria have continued to affect human’s day by day. The difference between cancer and the other sicknesses is that cancer has been around for hundreds of years and there still has not been a definite treatment for the many types. The reasoning that cancer is so difficult to treat is due to three different aspects: funding, types, and stages. The paper will go into detail about different …show more content…
There are five different stages that doctors split up cancer which include 0, I, II, III, IV and each one changes the way that the cancer is treated alongside the outcome. Most people know a general background about the stages, but do not have a genuine breakdown of what else goes into defining a stage. There are three letters that are first identified by doctors before a set stage is stated. This is called the TNM system in which expresses the actual growth of cancer cells and more specifically how it is spreading. The T defines the extent of the primary tumor, N stands for the absence or presence of regional lymph node involvement, and the M stands for the absence or presence of distant metastases. Each of these then go into the diagnostic of the five different stages. The first stage which is considered to be 0 is classified as the earliest stage of cancer possible, while stage 5 (IV) is considered to be the most advance stage of

Cancer is a term used for diseases in which irregular cells divide without any control and have the capability to penetrate and infect normal body tissue through the blood and lymph system. Cancer is the second leading cause of mortality in the United States, exceeded barely by heart disease. According to the CDC Cancer Statistics and Data, there were more than 1.45 million people diagnosed with various kind of cancer between 1999 and 2007 and out of those more than 562,000 people died due to cancer (cdc.gov, 2012). Currently there are more than 200 different types of cancer that have been discovered. Cancer could be
Staging is the process of finding out how much cancer there is in the body and where it is located. It is how the doctor learns the stage of a person's cancer. Doctors use this information to plan treatment and to help predict a person's outlook (prognosis). Cancers with the same stage tend to have similar outlooks and are often treated the same way. The cancer stage is also a way for doctors to describe the extent of the cancer when they talk with each other about a person’s case.
Long times ago, even during the 19th century, scientist all over the world had started to find the cure for cancer, one of the most feared disease you can ever imagine, simply because you don’t know what the cause and how to turn it off. Cancer started
Studies indicate that over the last decade, the number of people suffering from cancer has increasingly gone higher. Cancer is a disease that brings fear upon its victims, especially when its diagnosis is made late. Needless to say, many people die from the fear rather than the disease itself. Medical practitioners do not term cancer as a disease but as a lifestyle condition. People may not be able to completely cure the cancer (depending on the type or stage of cancer) but they may change their perception or lifestyle, and thus be able to reduce the anticipated results.
Some people are fortunate enough to have the ability to pay to get proper care. While others are not, as fortunate. Could you image having cancer, and making the decision if you had the time or money to be treated. Many people cannot even begin to fathom about making a choice like that. But Crissy Knibble was put in a situation where she might of have to.
For years people have been looking for a cure for the devastating disease of cancer. Cancer is the third highest killer in the US with over 2,500,000 victims per year. Oncologists and scientists around the country are researching all forms of cancer in an effort to understand, treat, and ultimately defeat this disease. Already there have been numerous advances in the field, such as chemotherapy and gene therapy. One advance has been the use of a cell process known as apoptosis. By harnessing this normal cell process, scientists hope to have found an effective way to combat cancer.
- The TNM classification is to describe the seriousness and characteristics of a patient’s cancer. T describes the measurements of the tumor. N stands for whether or not the cancer has started to develop in the lymph nodes. M is used for to determine if the cancer has moved from the original site to another location.
TNM system is based on the size of the tumor (T), whether lymph nodes are involved (N) and whether the tumor has metastasized (M) and spread to another part of the body(Dighe et al., 2015). TNM system can classify the cancer into 5 stages ranging from Stage 0 (carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or (LCIS) up to Stage IV where cancer has already metastasized to other organs(Moussa and Yones 2015). Larger size, nodal spread and metastasis lead to larger stage number and worse prognosis(Dighe et al.,
Cancer is figured to be the second leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. With approximately 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer related deaths in 2012, alone .Why are so many people stuck suffering with this deadly disease? Millions of dollars have been invested into cancer research, yet there is no cure. Are these pharmaceutical companies focus on finding a cure for cancer or concentrating on elongated treatments in order to lengthen their pockets? We must first understand that cancer is big business earning huge profits. Nonetheless, the cancer industry is spending virtually zilch of its multi-billion dollar resources on effective prevention strategies, like dietary guidelines, exercise, natural remedies and herbs proven to cure cancer. Instead, it pours its money into treating cancer, not preventing or allaying it.
Cancer. We all know someone who has suffered from it or has passed away because of it. Cancer now affects one in every three people, and is the second highest cause of death in the United States. For decades, the medical community has been on the hunt for a cure for cancer, and have been subjected to intense ridicule from the public because of a lack of progression toward a possible cure. In recent years, many scientists, doctors, researchers, and the general public have come to believe that the cure for cancer is being suppressed because of this lack of progress. Those who say it is suppressed claim that the drugs used to treat cancer actually cause cancer, making a patient sicker and sicker. As a result, the patients are forced to spend
One of the very last words anyone wants to hear from their doctors or loved ones is cancer. The word automatically instills fear, confusion, denial, and leaves the individual questioning his or her beliefs wondering “Why me?”. It overpowers all previous commitments or opportunities seizing control over the customary quality of life. Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body often metastasizing elsewhere. With more than two hundred types of cancer that can affect more than sixty organs, cancer kills a half million people annually in the United States alone1. It is understandable why cancer’s reputation is dismal and menacing. Although there is no cure for cancer, doctors and researchers
So many different types. In the article titled “Cancer Tutor” it says, “With the 122 different types of cancer people all around the world are affected by this.” Men, women, and children are all able to get cancer. This allows cancer to be a lot more common. One of the most common types of cancer is breast cancer. Men or women can have this. Unlike breast cancer some of the more common types of cancer can be caused by humans actions, such as smoking. Smoking can cause lung cancer, which is very typical. Cancer can be found in almost any part of your body, and needs to be checked on every once and awhile.
A disease is a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant that affects a specific location of the human body. One of the top deadliest diseases in the world is cancer. According to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, “Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body.” Cancer is a deadly disease, but it is not impossible to cure. There are many people in the world who have been diagnosed with cancer, but have been diagnosed as cancer free later in their lives. The effects on a cancer patient and coping with cancer are the main ideas of the subject.
Cancer is a worldwide phenomena that can be fatal and currently there is no cure. There are many different types of cancer that can afflict people. The American Cancer Society estimates that there is roughly 1,620 who die of a form of cancer each day in the United States. This global health crisis has produced about 14.1 million cases, 8.2 million of those were deaths, in 2012 alone. The growth of afflicted people is expected to rise to 21.7 million, with 13 million deaths, in the year 2030. There are treatments that can prolong lives but unfortunately there is no cure. If left unchecked the number of deaths will continue to rise over the coming years. Finding a cure for cancer is in the worlds best interest right now if we want to save the
