Introduction In the high desert mountains of Eastern border California there are slopes and valleys covered in grass with the sun shining brightly around the foothills and clouds forming on the surface of the land. In cold temperatures, water vapor crystallizes the air into microscopic snowflakes. The grassy shores surrounds blue water, and in the center you will find an ancient volcanic cone. This landscape is called Mono Lake. I chose to write about the Mono Indian Language after a friend had shown me pictures of her road trip to Mono Lake, which was so unbelievable beautiful I thought it would be an interesting language to write and learn about. This lake, to my surprise is in California, and Mono Lake was an important part of the Mono
This research will be about concern about the pollution of Lake Macatawa, in Holland Michigan, which is leading to a clean-up effort. Preliminary research has led me to a lot of information through government regulations and newspaper articles. Because the funding for the cleanup of this lake will be done with public money, it makes sense that it would be discussed in the local paper, The Holland Sentinel. The Sentinel has a few stories, both about the cleanup through public funds, and the stories that began to rise a little bit more recently, the funding through private donations.

This summer one scientific thing I did was use a water mat on Lake Winnipesaukee. A water mat is a giant raft that floats on the surface of the water. It's constructed from the same styrofoam type material that a pool noodle is made out of. It is extremely versatile and can be used in many different ways. The way that I enjoyed using it the most was to jump from our pontoon boat onto the mat. I would make my way to the edge of the boat, steady myself, and leap, landing directly on top of the green float. The impact of the jump made my feet feel sore for a few seconds. When I was ready, I would hurdle myself off the mat and climb back onto the boat. While this activity does require a lot of skill, it requires a lot of science as well.

My hike was carried out in the form of a mountain bike ride with our school’s racing team. It took place northeast of the Utah State Capitol Building along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. This path, however, begins near the University of Utah and ends just shy of the Idaho border. As the name suggests, this footpath was created by Lake Bonneville, a saltwater lake that was at it’s peak 8,500 years ago. The massive lake was nearly completely drained by an enormous natural dam buckling under the immense pressure, causing an enormous flood(O’Connor, 2011). Today, all that remains is the Great Salt Lake. A water mass that is now almost 12 times smaller that Lake Bonneville. The lake has many tributaries flowing into it, resulting in a small incline of salt as time passes. Brine shrimp are barely able to process the high levels of salt in the water making

Lindy Henry Mel Sadeghpour Bio-145 7/13/2015 Iowa and River Boats In Iowa we are the only state that has four border rivers. The names of these amazing rivers are big Sioux, Mississippi, Des Moines, and Missouri. These rivers were of great importance in Iowa before there were railroads for traveling and transporting different produce around the 1800s. Steamboats actually would travel into Iowa before they were even legal to. The Missouri river was probably the most dangerous, dead tree laying on the bottom of the rivers, tree limbs captains couldn’t see, which could put hole in the bottom of the steamboats. Now the Missouri current moved quickly and the channel would shift from one place to another. This caused a lot of accidents and made

Dealing with flooding has been an all too often occurrence for those who live or work around the western suburbs of Chicago. Parking lots are often underwater making them unsafe to enter and effectively shutting down the Schools and businesses in the area. Standing water is found around every corner causing roads to become barricaded off. I have personally watched cars floating down the street. Finally, the local residents and governments have had enough, they've reached a decision. One of the parks in the area will be torn down to make room for an emergency runoff pond. The chosen park is Armstrong Park, which includes the natural walking path park called Lake George. Adding the runoff pond will vastly improve the surrounding communities
Lake Tahoe holds a dear place in my heart because it is one of the most often destinations for our family vacations. I lost count of how many times I have been there. For every occasion, it is just the place to go to. It is such a relaxing place, at least for the weekend I do not have to worry about anything. Lake Tahoe is a very green place to be in California. California is a very dry state and having forests like Lake Tahoe is something to be proud of. It attracts thousands of visitors each year and has numerous activities to do there. Not only is Lake Tahoe extremely beautiful, but it has many ecological features.
