Townhall Meeting On November 9th 2015, a town hall meeting took place in my political science class. This meeting was a chance for students of the school to bring up concerns, or issues regarding there education. For their voice to be heard directly to the faculty that runs the school, the students could finally have a chance to get a valid answer. There was questions about safety, mathematics, community college education, and typical student issues.
The first major topic I though was most important was the student safety. For a long time I wondered why the school safey officers didn't carry weapons. The faculty told the students that they are improving the math course's offered and opening tutor centers earlier so you can obtain the help that you may need. They did tell us they understand the material for mathematics is harder than most community colleges and the solutions are still on going. This is due to the California State requirements that they have a bide by. Lastly, was the topic I found most compelling, community colleges. Did you know 55 out of 100 graduating students at a university actually went to a community college? That's an amazing statistic because it gives a second chance for those of us who didn't meet university requirements. Not to mention, some of the faculty told us they graduated from Goldenwest as well. This information made me feel more secure that I was on the right track to my academic success. In conclusion, I thought this experience was very informative. From the safety procedures that are up in coming, to some bigger decisions to keep students safe. The helping hand we are about to see with the math courses and how they are offering tutors. To the discussion about how community colleges have helped past graduates and our current generation. The town hall meeting was a great opportunity for students to see on going problems be addressed
