Transgender People Should Be Allowed The Same Basic Human Rights

Recently, the issue of allowing transgender people access to public facilities according to the gender they identify with has caused much debate throughout the United States. The bathroom bill seeks to control access to public facilities of transgender individuals, based on the gender they were assigned at birth. In 2015, bills were passed stating entering a bathroom not assigned to a person at birth was a crime. Surrounded by misconception, the bill does “not legalize harassment, stalking, violence, or sexual assault.” Since the bill arose, there have not been a rise in violence or other incidents in the states protecting the transgender rights (Transgender Equality). America has come so far into society and our freedom. How can our country forget when slavery ended in 1865 and gave women more rights in 1920. However, over time America has ignored the basic rights of transgender people. Transgender people are not any different from African Americans, or women. Why should they be treated any different? They're humans just like everyone else. They deserve the same basic treatment as a human rather than being treated like they're not from this planet. There are transgender people today who are getting harassed and tormented for just going into the bathroom for what they identify as. They should be able to go into a bathroom for which sex they identify as, rather than making special bathrooms for transgender people that make them stand out and feel odd for using.

There are around 1.4 million transgenders around the United States. Through the years there have been debates whether transgender people should be permitted to use bathrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity. A lot of people are afraid of sharing bathrooms with transgender because there might be people who could take advantage of this law and sexually harass or assault other individuals. The transgender bathroom issues should be a law in every state because transgender people are human beings and their rights should also be protected just like everyone else.

Transgender rights and policies have always been an ongoing debate. These kind of people want to and will try to make someone’s life as hard as possible simply because they see this subject differently. The simple, daily task of using the bathroom is a breeze for any typical person. Unfortunately, this task comes across as a intimidating adversary to a trans person simply because one can be conflicted with which restroom to use. For many trans people, entering a gender-specific bathroom can be a source of stress and anxiety, because using the restroom can mean very real health and safety concerns. Harassment of trans people in and around gender-specific bathrooms can range from denial of use to police intervention to verbal threats and physical assault.

On the other side of the debate, people claim that it only matters about what you think of yourself. But, there is no way to prove if you are actually a transgender. NBC Washington states, “D.C. police have charged a security guard at a Giant grocery store with simple assault after a transgender woman said the guard forced her out of the women's restroom.” The guard was mistaken because the “woman” could not prove anything. She didn’t know if this person was a man or a woman because it is too confusing. “She” didn’t have a permit or a legal document saying that “she” was a woman. So, until you can prove that someone is legitly a transgender, they have to use the bathroom of their birth gender. Genesis 1:26 states “And God created man in His image, in His likeness; male and female He created them . . . . and it was very good.” Whether you believe in god or not, this proves that we were created to be male or female. We were not created to switch. Whatever created us had the best ideas for us to become successful. We were put on this earth for a reason, and that reason is not to change between genders. Just because it’s not right doesn't mean there is a perfect solution for it. People can’t dictate how other people feel. Since there are so many rebuttals for every argument on either side, it can be difficult to resolve. The only resolution is to get used to it. As people learn, hear, and observe things around them constantly, it becomes normal to them. Since there are more and more people becoming transgender, people are getting more used to the idea. Hopefully, that will not influence other people to become transgender. To put it in the simplest form, there is a need for change. Transgender bathroom regulations blatantly oppress transgender individuals all around the nation in many ways. Since the national uprising over transgender bathroom policies Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) individuals have been impacted greatly. Heath complications, increase in suicides, and undeniable discrimination are a few of the negative impacts these policies have had on LGBTQ people. Across America there are a select group of people that are faced with the challenge of choosing between the labels “Men” and “Women”. These particular labels are what separate who can use what restroom. Some want to use the men’s restroom, but fear there might be consequences that come along with it. Others want to use the women’s restroom, but are worried about possibly being assaulted. One might question why would there be consequences toward a man for using the men’s restroom, and a possible assault toward a woman for using the women’s restroom? This is where the term Transgender comes in. Transgender refers to those “who claim a gender or expression different from the one assigned at their birth”. Transgender individuals can be gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, and a number of other things. The distress of being bothered in the restroom leads many transgender individuals avoiding them altogether. If transgender individuals continue to use the restrooms that match their biological gender and not a form of a gender neutral restroom, some transgender individuals can face the dangers of harassment, consequences, and possible assault.

My opinion about this question is that transgenders should not be allowed to go in any bathroom they chose because no one would want to see a man in the women's restroom or a female in the men's restroom. “It's clear that a transgender person being forced to use a bathroom that is designed primarily for one sex rather than another would be disadvantaged, but how many students in any one school is actually a transgender? Are we supposed to build them an entirely separate facility, and if we did would that not make them stand out more as being different? It would be more practical to make all bathrooms

When transgender rights are being talked about the topic of bathrooms is usually included. This is a controversial debate in the U.S. People who do not support or approve of a transgender using the bathroom that they identify with are concerned for public safety. Sexual assault, embarrassment, and much more are reasons why.

When the average person walks into a restroom, what is usually on their mind? Are they thinking about the movie they just watched or the scene they might be missing? Did they smear their eyeliner or do they need to reapply their lipstick? Or maybe they’re thinking about needing to pee? Those are all reasonable things to think about when going to use the restroom. However, some people seem to think that certain people go to the restroom to scope out their next victim. They are so worried about this happening that they make laws that hurt innocent people. Many transgendered people today are being neglected by other people. They are being mistreated because they are using the Un-digsnated bathroom. Their birth certificate says they are either male or female. They are supposed to use the bathroom that corresponds to the sign indicated on the birth certificate. Laws are being passed that restrict transgender's rights to use the bathroom. In 2016, 18 state legislatures considered bills that would restrict transgender students from using bathrooms, locker rooms, and other facilities(Human Rights Watch.) The transgender youth are being forced to use the bathroom of the gender they did not feel comfortable with. The transgender youth should have a say with this decision.
