Transition from High School to College In my senior year of high school, my goals were getting offers from colleges and getting “5”s in my AP tests. For the most of the time, all I need to do is to follow the instructions from my college counselors and teachers. So it was not very hard for me to reach my goals with their help. I did not need to make a lot decisions by myself except choosing which colleges I want to apply. But in college, I almost need to figure out everything by myself. I need to think about which classes I need to take, which clubs I want to join, what kind of activities I should participate. Although I went to AMP which should give me better preparation for college life, I still felt exhausted about remembering everything
In life we will encounter difficult situations and we must learn to adapt to changes and embrace opportunities. My transition from middle to high school was a difficult and intense period of growth in my life. As I reflect on the experience, I remember making several important decisions for embracing this transition. I assessed the situation to determine my expectations for my life, my best interest and my approach to this transition to meet my personal and academic goals. This transition was difficult primarily because I was in a new environment which posed personal and academic challenges. I embraced the opportunity and purposed to make the best of the academic experience and my development from middle to high school student preparing for
Many people ask me what are my plans after high school? Luckily, I have come to the decision to be in the military and attend a postsecondary education and major in Nursing with the intention of becoming a Pediatrician or becoming an Architect.
As a result of several motivational purposes, there are many driving factors to go to college that can and will impact one’s life. Before going to college, I waited 2 ½ years after I graduated high school to finally make my decision to go to college. The reason it took me so long is that I did not know what I wanted to do with my life. First, I wanted to be a probation officer, then I changed my mind to be an OBGYN, then finally I made the decision to become a nurse. I know I have a long road of schooling ahead of me, but that is okay. I have wonderful people in my life that encourage me to continue my studies. Going to college is important since it can open many opportunities to get into a better career field, it is a fun experience, and it can also start a tradition in my family.
The main reasons why I chose to go to college was, get better education for myself, be a role model for my children and to earn my degree to get a high paying job.
I must say I struggled with the idea of going back to college. I am 34 years old. What in the world was I thinking? College, now? How old will I be when I graduate? Well I went against my thoughts and self doubt and went for it. I am enrolled in college, community college, but it’s a start. Hopefully it will be amazing and will lead me to success. I am currently in my first quarter. I have a long way to go, but I am going to get there, no matter what.
For me going to college was a thoughtful process nevertheless here I am writing this essay in college.
It was the end of the 1st semester of my sophomore year and I was discussing classes with my counselor, the fact that I was joining AVID I knew in that moment I realized that I had to take school more seriously. College is just around the corner, I knew that I needed to make a change and be more responsible in my life. When my counselor told me in order to be in the program you have to maintain a good GPA. It helps that I've always had decent grades throughout my life in school so that wasn’t a problem.
Ever since I was a little girl my parents have been saving and preparing themselves for the day they send me off to college. I have a long line of family members that graduated from Southern University. I knew for a fact that Southern was going to be the school of my choice. August 22, 2012 was the first day of my freshman year in high school. Once I entered high school the only thing I could think about my graduation and my matriculation at Southern. I couldn’t think of anything more stressful than transitioning from high school to college. When I was in middle school a lot of people told me about high school and how it was hard. The things they told me made me think going to high school would be a huge step, well it has nothing on college. No more depending on people, I have to get it on my own. Now that I am in college, I will be faced with many challenges that I will have to make the right choice about on my own.
So, you decide you want to go to college. Do you know all of your options? Every student is different with their reasoning on going to college and learning style and want to choose what college fits best for them. It is a cultural assumption to simply thing that bigger is better, but is that always the right choice? Attending a smaller college and a much larger college has similar outcomes, but differ on cost, learning atmosphere, and activities.
Thinking about going to college? Great! One thing you have to plan is how you are going to afford it. There are many different ways to pay for tuition WITHOUT taking out student loans. Tuition has increased tremendously during the last 20 years. You may be able to receive scholarships or grants, FASFA, and much more! A scholarship is a form of financial aid that does not need to be repaid. You can be awarded scholarships for academic or athletic achievement. Student loans are what you should plan to stay away from. No debt is good. You will graduate college and still be paying for your student loans ten years later. Statistics show that 70% of college students graduate with debt, do not let that be you! Grants are another form of financial
Les Brown said, “Your goals are the road maps that guide you and show you what is possible for your life.” Every goal in life is determined by the actions we do now. Experiences and feeling have a lesson to teach us something new that could, later on, be applied in the future for our own good. Since I started living with my grandma when I was six years old, I had wanted to be a doctor because I wanted to help people. Activities in school are contributing their bit on the person I want to be, similarly to those special ones that will help me a lot through college too.
Why do we need to go to college? Why is it so important that our parents cram this information in our heads since the beginning of our high school year, and they give us the same answer “so you can get a good job” In reality, college is place for people to learn more about what they are really interested in and pursue that interest so they can make a career out of it. College is very one sided, if you go to college you will be able to get a job, and be able to take care of yourself. If you don’t, you won’t be able to hold your own in life, because so many things requires a college degree. Other people have different views and opinions about college that is completely the opposite of mine. In this essay I going to talk about why college is basically
In 8th grade, I was told I would be moving to a new country, so my parents could start their new careers of being missionaries. At first, I was so happy and excited for this new adventure. However, after I entered high school I did not want to leave, I wanted to be involved with my school and in activities. The decision my parents made really affected my life, I became very angry with them and started to do things I normally wouldn’t do, like self-harm. Before entering my junior year of high school my family and I moved to Costa Rica. Instead of being angry and having self-pity, I decided to be optimistic and think of the experience as a grand adventure that no one else gets encounter. I left my friends and family and the life I’ve known since
Growing up is optional for everyone out in the world. Going to college is a big choice to make for growing up. Everyone has that chance to make that big change in their life. Everyone does not make the choice for the ones who do will be the biggest challenge. College life will not be an easy road to follow up on. College can be a lot of hard work because independence, more work, new people.
Everyone should have personal goals that evolve around anything that needs to be accomplished. I set goals on a daily basis. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. As a student at the university, I now have to set personal goals so that I will be successful in my endeavors. My personal goals are to gain personal growth and development and graduate from my undergraduate program in business
