As the world begins to change, organizations must follow suit. “Each generation brings new technology and challenges” (Wienolaw, 2015). It’s important that organizations adapt and change, to meet the needs and demands of the marketplace. Change within any organization can strike fear and can extremely incredible to deal with. Organizations must create culture that is beneficial to their people and their brand. Organizational changes can range from simple to more obvious ones.
Using Kotter’s model, identify the three (3) most significant errors made out of all of the change stories presented and describe the ramifications of those mistakes.
The first significant error that was made in all of the change stories, related to Kotter’s model was failing to create short term wins. Each company proceed to fast with the changes their companies were undergoing. Although, some of the changes was necessary, the company did not set goals that would set them up for success. For example, Kodak’s transition into digital technology was not properly executed. The company failed to recognize how the sudden change would alter their investments and affect their staffs. Kotter’s model states that you should plan for achievements that are easily visible and to follow through with (Lambert and Prendergast, 2014, pg.5).
