Translation Services: Rates and Regions Translation rates are generally calculated on a per-word or per-page basis but flat fees may be negotiated for many larger or specialized projects. Additional fees may also be added for additional services such as formatting, desktop publishing, proofreading, and editing. There may also be fees added if the job is a rush order. Beyond these general pricing structures are adjustments for "certified translations", complexity, and even language and region. The idea that the service is different for different languages and regions may seem strange. Let 's take a look at a few of the reasons why these adjustments are made. Language Pair Difficulty The primary reason there are differences in fees relates to the difficulty of the language pair. It is much easier to translate a document from English to Spanish than it is from English to Hindi or Chinese. First, Spanish uses the same Latin alphabet with only a few minor variations. Second, the languages are based on the same lexical and grammatical foundation. While there will be changes in sentence structure and not every word translates perfectly, translations between these two languages relatively easy to perform. When transliteration becomes necessary for names, logos, etc. the common alphabet and language sounds allow for simple letter-for-letter swaps. When translating to or from languages with completely different alphabets, especially when one is a symbol-based language.

The book Translation Nation by Hector Tovar begins by telling his own story, and how migrating to Los Angeles from Guatemala changed his parents and shaped his. Not only that, but how iconic Che Guevara was to his family, even comparing him to god. He continued by showing the similarities in Los Angeles and New York, how the Latino immigrants were following in the steps of those from around Europe, assimilating and creating a community of their own. Then he began talking about the border between Tijuana, Mexico, and California. Describing the emptiness of the beach that day, and the fact that many people from all over Mexico were wandering the streets of Tijuana, waiting for nightfall to cross the border. Also describing the tactics border patrol use to find the immigrants before they cross. Even including interviews with people waiting to cross, some knowing the tactics of border patrol and others clueless, following el coyote y el pollero. In addition, Tovar went undercover, pretending to be an immigrant looking for work, and experienced first hand the process. Throughout the book, he includes the story of many people who he met along the way. Their stories helped write the book, and give a more personal meaning to it.

Some challenges I have had when translating, are that I sometimes need a moment to process everything because there are cases where you can’t translate a word off the top of your head and you translate it by using a slang word. In many cases that has happened to me. There have been times where my family members want me to translate a written message into English, to send it to their boss to be able to communicate with him for
Daniel Gouadec (2002: 273) said in Translation as a Profession that "most translation problems and potential risks could be resolved by getting as much information as possible prior to a translation project". As to the translation project in this report, I made preparation in the following aspects:
Experiencing anything new is always a step outside of my comfort zone, and with this project in particular whether it was going to someone else’s church or bringing them to mine. I felt confident when it came to going to someone else’s church, because I had a sense of what to expect and felt as though I knew enough about the environment. However, when it came to bringing someone to my church I did not feel that same sense of confidence. I have a primary church(full member), and I have another church that is smaller and more family like. I chose to bring my guest(Andrew H) to my smaller church, because the size would not have been has impactful as well as they do a dual-language service(haitian-creole & english). I also chose to attend Andrew’s church, because i somewhat of the culture there but I wanted to learn more.

Associations are a good resource for translators. Every language and specialization area has professional organizations of its own.
