In the context of the U.S. marine, transportation system is the cherished asset of the country. The system has provided the U.S maritime transport a leading position in the international market. Although, the maritime transportation has been stable traditionally, manifold increase in international trade has imposed potential challenges of maritime transportation capacity. Another constraint on the transportation system is arising from the environmental regulations now imposed by the U.S government through Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Therefore, the industry is set to face two main issues in coming years, first filling the gap between demand and supply of port transportation and secondly to provide enough capacity for managing future growth of transportation through ports.
