The Inuit were an Aboriginal society who lived in the northern Arctic. Their name, Inuit, means “people” in their language. Thought to originate from Asia, they settled into parts of Canada, Greenland and Alaska approximately 8 000 to 10 000 years ago.1 In today's society, the term Inuit is mainly used to describe the people who lived within Canada and Greenland whilst Eskimo is to describe those from Alaska. They have many traditions and cultural beliefs based around the animals of the north.

In the article ‘The Ultimate Arctic Expedition’, Anthony Doerr travels to the Artic and has a once in a lifetime experience. Throughout his travels in the Arctic, Doerr experiences everything from the slowly dissolving sheets of ice, to the rarely spotted narwhal that even scientists have a difficult time tracking. Upon arrival, Doerr realizes some distinct differences from the lives of those who live in this northern part of the world than what he is used to. Throughout the article we see Doerr begin to question why certain things seem alien to us and why some things are considered ‘norms’. The idea of differences varies from culture to culture.
I believe that every person should try snow skiing at least once. Snow skiing is a great activity with so many benefits, plus its really really fun! People of all ages can try it with the youngest person recorded being one year old. For me, skiing is the best sport out there and when I’m skiing it feels like I’m on another planet because everything is white from being covered with snow. Some days there is so much snow you can't even see in front of you. Those are the best days. It's such a great experience and I'll give you the motivators that keep me looking at the mountain peaks in July.
