Moreover, these hard-working youngsters were given the chance to interact with some of the world's most elite athletes, including Julius Randle (Los Angeles Lakers), Jerome Jordan (Brooklyn Nets), and Craig “The Rhino” Smith (Portland Trailblazers).

Lastly, Hall of Famer James “Big Game” Worthy paid us a visit, taking time to talk with our youth about his experiences as a student athlete, NBA superstar, and teammate of Lakers superstars like Magic Johnson and our own Byron Scott. Becoming a student athletic trainer has changed me greatly. I learned responsibility and the depth of what goes on in sports behind the scenes. I now know how to assist people when they’re hurt by taping their fingers, wrists, hand-wrist combinations, ankles,
In high school, news spread fast about Isaiah Thomas. His coach at Curtis High, Lindsay Bemis, talked to a coach from Portland once. The coach was looking for “the little Mighty Mouse.” Jason Terry’s father coached Isaiah’s AAU team and Jason Terry could recall his

Hoop Dreams, directed by Steve James, is an outstanding documentary that gives the viewer a perspective on several different elements on the life of a teen basketball player. The film follows Arthur Agee and William Gates, two basketball stars, who live in the rough Chicago area. The inner-city boys get noticed for their skills, and they are recruited to play for dominant team. The audience follows the boy’s journey with basketball, school, and general life matters. The film dives into the reality of living in the hood and chasing a dream of playing professional basketball. The corruption of the school system and sports are examined throughout the film. The audience follows Agee and Gates through their triumphs and failures in their chase to the top. The director, Steve James, uses the film genre of documentary for the story of Arther Agee and William Gates because it highlights the raw moments of their lives.
Most African American that want to make it to the National Football League (NFL) or the National basketball League (NBA), do not realize there is a slim chance to none of actually going into a professional sport. Gates writes “African American youngster has about as much of becoming a professional athlete as he or she does of winning the lottery” (1). Not many African American youngsters know that there are “12 times more black lawyers than black athletes” or there are only 1200 blacks who play in a professional sport (1). There are 12 times more black professionals that are in the communities accommodating to the needs of those who need the assistance with either legal or health issues. The youth can achieve greatness in today’s society by getting a degree and forming a foundation to make enough to be financially stable.
Lebron James, the first pick taken in this year’s draft, may be the prototype for an athlete having immediate fame and wealth by jumping straight to the NBA. Almost undoubtedly, he has set the bar for years to come. Before he even played in an actual NBA game, he already had his own commercial and shoe deals. When he was a senior in high school, ESPN and ESPN2 were already publicizing his regular season games whenever they had the chance. Amazingly, as a junior in high school, he was already being considered the next Michael Jordan (Broussard).
VI. When I was born he taught me to be the strongest person I could be and to do my absolute best at everything I try.
In the collegiate world of sports, basketball has become an increasingly recognized sport among African Americans, predominantly males. The hope of any young basketball player is that one day a scout will come and recruit them into stardom The question that presents itself as a problem to the lucky few who are chosen to go professional, is whether or not an education is more important than a million dollar shoe deal, “The NCAA's (1998) annual six-year study reported that only 33% of Black male basketball players graduated, (Chronicle of Higher Education, 1999). Individually, basketball reported the lowest graduation rate in all divisions,” (Robinson, 2004:1). Basketball players have become so idolized in the eyes of young

Watching Jordan play and seeing how great he was, influenced many teens and kids around the world.
When I started doing this tribute speech I had the wrong definition of the word tribute. After talking about it in class and explaining to me I had a better thought process. The tribute speech I am writing about is about my father. I want to tell how important he has been in my life and everything he has done for me.

Though professional athletes get individualized attention because of their talent, being an effective team player is a major part of their job. Off the court or field, players engage in community service projects with fellow teammates, which also portray how working together, effectively, can achieve an even greater goal. Many players have also established foundations that help a population for which the player has a special interest.
