If I were able to meet one character from a book I would have to choose Tris from Divergent because I would like to know more about what happened at the choosing ceremony and beyond. I would ask her if she always liked Four or she had to get used to him, what it felt like when her brother betrayed their family, and because of Dauntless training whether or not she just wanted to give up and be faction less. I feel that she would say that she felt a connection between her and Four from the first day they met, she was hurt when her brother chose Erudite (the Abnegation's enemies) and that was probably what pushed her to become Dauntless, and I believe she would say she never wanted to be faction less, she would say a t times she felt she wasn't
Tris Prior is an 18 year old who was born into a one of the five factions in her community: Abnegation. Citizens in the abnegation category are modest, selfless, plan, and put others before himself. When she was 16, Tris took a test which told her that she was applicable for many different factions which is rare, she was then defined as different, a good different. Later, Tris was given the opportunity to switch factions, most people stay in there born faction, but Tris rebelled and left her family to become Dauntless. In the Dauntless faction Tris learned to fight, to survive, and to be brave. During her time in Dauntless she realized that one of the main rulers was planning to put an end to all of the factions and over throw everyone. Tris refused to sit back and let others take control of her. She led her community to try and put an end to the ruler, no matter how much pain and heartbreak she went through. In the book Insurgent, Tris has similarities to Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games. Tris’s actions and characteristics are very similar to that of Katniss Everdeen in Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games. Like Tris, Katniss bravely leads her community to rebel against their main leader. Katniss Everdeen is also different from others in her community, like Tris because she
Usually I would think people would chose the faction in which they grew up in, which was abnegation. Joining Dauntless gave Beatrice the opportunity to have a new life, as a result, she renamed herself Tris. Two quotes I found that coincide with what I have explained are “Beatrice…We should think of our family…But we must also think of ourselves.”, This quote was on page page 36 and was said by Caleb. The other quote was “ A new place, a new name. I can be remade here”. This was said by Tris on page
This book is Four’s life before he met Tris, and when the meets Tris. So us readers get to see what life was like in Dauntless. We don’t really get to experience the jobs that they get after they become Dauntless because Eric and Candor decide to destroy Abnegation. The beginning of the book makes me consider how bad Four’s dad really was. Training was also interesting to see from another person’s perspective. We get to see Four’s struggle while he was training. No one helped him pass training even though he was Divergent. We also get to see how Four wants to leave Dauntless and become Factionless but then Tris comes along and he instantly falls in love with her and stays. There is one part of the book that becomes interesting. In Divergent, Tris does all of the combat fighting first. And in Four, they do fear landscapes first because they were trying something different. But the Dauntless don’t do experiments, they just want someone to manipulate. The main people of Dauntless and Jeanine become aware of things that they shouldn’t be aware of. Making a pawn means they want someone that is young because they are easier to ‘shape and mold’. It’s like creating someone that will help them make Dauntless the way that they want it to
Insurgent is the second book in the divergent. There are 4 books. Divergent insurgent Allegiant and four. For Divergent Insurgent and Allegiant, there are all movies but it’s only Allegiant part 1. There is no movie for four yet. The story is Tris is in Abnegation then at the choosing ceremony she chooses Dauntless. At Dauntless she meets a guy name four. She is divergent. Tris and Four grow closer together. Janine injects everyone with a control serum. But did doesn't work for divergent. And they go and kill Abnegation. Because Erudite wants to be the governing faction. Also for information. They Tris and Four are known as divergence. They go to Dauntless headquarters and shut down the serum. I read insurgent and it is my favorite out of
Insurgent built upon the book Divergent. In Insurgent, Tris and Four are in hiding because they are on the run from Erudite and Dauntless, the two rogue factions. They are on the run because they, in Divergent, stopped a mass murder of a faction, Abnegation. They, in turn, are in hiding from the rogue factions and are forced to act again when the rogue factions take over the
I am brave, I am selfish, and I am divergent. In divergent there is a main character named Tris and where she lives her community is split into 5 different fractions. The fractions are called Dauntless, Abnegation, Candor, Erudite, and lastly Amity. In the book Tris learns a lesson that everyone needs to learn and that is "One choice can change you". This is important because whenever you need to make a choice you should always think about it before you chose, because almost every time that choice will effect you.IN the book Divergent, the choice of picking a fraction is the most important choice you will ever make and that choice will decide your
Even though she is Divergent, she feels determined to commit to the Dauntless faction. Considering Tris is Divergent, she is seen as a threat to the community. If she does the wrong things in front of the wrong people she could be killed. If she picked another faction and stayed away from trouble, she would have a better chance of survival.
When Tris was apart of the initiates, Four told me she was the first person to jump, which shocked everyone; normally initiates from Abnegation, or ‘stiffs,’ as other factions call them, jump first very rarely. When Four helped Tris off the net, he said the Tris stared him at such an intriguing way, and that she did very often. After he took Tris and the rest of the initiates on a tour of Dauntless, they went to dinner; Tris and her friend sat next to Four, which creeped him out at first, but found it somewhat amusing. The next day, Four took them on a train to the border of the faction and showed them what it looked like. Four noticed Tris was staring at his arms the whole ride, which made him assume that Tris was super intrigued and captivated by
She wonders how each choice will affect the city and how it will affect her. The tagline of Insurgent is “one choice can destroy you” (Roth). Tris’ decision can destroy her, not literally, but emotionally. Deciding against Evelyn means deciding against Tobias, whom she trusts and loves. But deciding to go against Marcus and to help Evelyn’s plan succeed, means destroying an entire faction and killing more people. “How strange that something so simple could have been instrumental in my decision to ruin one of my most important relationships and friendships, and damage another” (Roth 155). Tris ultimately decides against Evelyn and Tobias is not happy with her. Not only does Tris have endless amounts of guilt swimming through her head, she has to decide the fate of her city. Actress Shailene Woodley, who plays Tris in the Divergent Trilogy movies, shared in an interview with Los Angeles Times, “it was fun to explore this Tris because she was going through so much more of an internal emotional battle than in the first movie. In the last film she lost her parents, she lost her best friend, so in this movie she’s dealing with a lot of guilt while also trying to figure out how to continue to aid the community that exists around her.” Tris’ final decision may define the final outcome for the community. When talking about if Tris will kill the main antagonist, Janine, in an interview with The Huffington Post, Roth says that Tris always has “her parents in her head, telling her what’s right and what’s wrong.” Tris listens to what she imagines her parents would tell her and that is where she bases her decisions
The movie poster emphasizes the main characters in the film Tris and Four (the female and male protagonist respectively). They seem to be watching the whole place in one of the highest building in the setting. We can also see that the Tris stands in Four’s back while Four is crouching facing the other way. We can also see crows flying not very far away from them, a Ferris wheel, and cables for zip lining. The poster also has a quote “what makes you different makes you dangerous”. The position of the characters in the poster shows that they are watching each other’s back preparing for something. The male was carrying a weapon so it means that they are being cautious and ready to fight whenever an opponent occurs. They are standing in the highest building in the setting which had an importance in the story because it is one of the fears of the male protagonist, while the crows are one of the fears of the female protagonist. The background seems to be gloomy, like there is a war that happening on that place. The Ferris wheel is the place where the leading characters have a moment with each other and
One of my favorite movies/novels is Divergent, by Veronica Roth. I love the romantic, adventurous, and the family aspects of this novel. I truly feel like I am living in Tris’s world when I am reading. In my opinion when an author can make their reader believe that they are in the story, that is when your book goes from average to award winning.
Divergent is a very inscrutable book. It is more of a science fiction book. The plot of the story is that Divergent is the set in the future type of book. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) lives in a futuristic world in which society is divided into five factions. As each person enters adulthood, he or she must choose a faction and commit to it for life. Tris chooses Dauntless those who pursue bravery above all else. However, her initiation leads to the discovery that she is a Divergent and will never be able to fit into just one faction. Warned that she must conceal her status, Tris uncovers a looming war which threatens everyone she loves. Tris is a very nice but also weird, sometimes she thinks the world is all about her.
Throughout history women have struggled to be seen as equals to men. Susan Glaspell displays the oppression that occurs towards the female gender in her drama, Trifles. This drama was published in 1916, during a time when women were seen as no more than wives and mothers. The author uses a theme of gender to show the negative effects of discrimination and gender stereotypes. In the drama, Trifles, Mrs. Peters’ character develops as she questions the idea of justice. She struggles in deciding whether she should stay loyal to her husband or to her gender. Mrs. Peters feels a responsibility to obey the law because she is the sheriff’s wife, however the relatability of the murder causes her to go against her belief of legalism to obtain justice for women and for Mrs. Wright.
“Trifles” was written by Susan Glaspell in 1916. A time when women were looked at as assets to their husbands. Glaspell tries to sketch this time period in “Trifles.” In “Trifles,” John Wright is strangled to death in the bed he share with his wife. His wife, Mr.Wright, is the only one in the farmhouse. Mr.Hale, the Wrights neighbor, discovered the crime and got the county attorney, Mr.Henderson, and Mr.Peters, the town's sheriff involved. The men are accommodated by their wives, Mrs.Hale and Mrs.Peters. Mr.Hale retells how he found Mrs.Wright acting strange, when she told him her husband had been murdered while they were sleeping. There was a gun in the house, but Mr.Wright was strangled with a rope. Mrs.Wright is taken into custody and sent to jail. The women are allowed to gather items for her, only if they are not connected to the case. The men make light of the women worrying about trifles. Due to this the women are more vocal when the men are not around.
Girls play with dolls as well as boys play with cars. It does not matter what they use to have fun because kids have the right to live a childhood as everybody else has done. It does not matter if they are girl or boy because they receive the same treat. Adults just know that they are kids and they need to enjoy their life; though, why do not adults treat people like they treat children. Why do they treat people by gender and do not treat them like a human being? Unfortunately, adults play a different role. Adults judge other adults by gender. It is weird to see a man working in a daycare as well as a woman working in a construction. Also, women’s salaries are less than men. All these means that there are gender differences today, but it is not very noticeable. Nonetheless, people are lucky that they have voice today because years ago, some people did not have it, especially women. Many stories were written in books about how women were treated, and one of these stories has a tittle called Trifles. This sad but powerful story was written by Susan Glaspell. The story relates how a woman killed her husband, but the tittle is trifles, something of little importance. There is a homicide, so the story should be important, but in the story, for some characters were not important. Something motivated to these characters to treat this case as something of little value, and these characters were the women. Why did
