In true Disney fashion Toy Story was the first fully computer-generated full-length feature film. Through the dedication of Pixar’s team and Disney’s innovation’s, Toy Story was taken to ‘infinity and beyond’ with the number 1 box office champion in 1995. Grossing over $361 million worldwide. This film was an amazing breakthrough in the way movies were made and was the foundation for many movies to come. John Lasseter stated in The Making of Toy Story interview ‘We were like pioneers and it was so exciting’. With a budget of $90 million, Toy Story 2 earned a worldwide gross of just under half a billion dollars, this success laid the foundation for subsequent ambition and innovation. On February 8th 2007 Toy Story 3’s production began for the release date of 2010 with a budget of $200 million. The film went on to receive an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature along with a worldwide gross over 1$ billion. Lee Unkrich stated in an interview with AWN ‘We see everything happening behind the scenes and everything that went into making decisions on the films. For us, they are our lives.’ (Desowitz, B, 2010) But what made all this success possible, what were the technical innovations and were there any upsets along the way?
