Tucson is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Tucson was the capital of the Arizona Territory from 1867 to 1877. This town had the progress of innovation of a metropolitan community and had the friendly, caring atmosphere of a small town. This town had a rich cultural heritage center around a unique blend of Native Americans, Spanish, Mexican and American influences. This small town has historical and contemporary American architecture and prehistoric native layout. Back in the day, Army officers, ranchers, miners, gamblers, cowboys, and politicians would dine, danced and rested at the Orndorff Hotel which is one of the prehistoric building in Tucson. This hotel was built in 1856 which was known as the Phillips House and the Cosmopolitan. It was …show more content…
Some of these single men’s where a small group of Tucson bachelors who formed the Owl’s Club. These members shared a glamorous social life in the frontier life. Since these members were bankers, merchants, lawyers, and politicians, they were active in the community development. They lived the Tucson social scene where they had masked balls, dances, and elegant dinner. Eventually, each bachelor got married and left the residence and the club faded away. The Museum included photos and information about the cultures and the history of Tucson. It was fascinating to see how people lived back in the day and compare it to now. It also had ancient artifacts from back in the day such as ancient cars, dresses, utensils, machines, beds and etc. Seeing the artifacts was very interesting to me because it enhances knowledge of their culture. The museum preserves artifacts of historical significance for the future generation. Some of the identities that I saw was cowboys, Army officers, ranchers, miners, gamblers, cowboys, politicians and Mexican Americans. Every person was identified based on ethnicity, race, sexuality, gender, class, job and even
The museum focuses on teaching and making visitors aware of the local culture that once was. Its main exhibits are farming tools and items you would see and use on a working
The city of Pocatello was founded in 1889. The city is known as the "Gateway to the Northwest.” Today, the northern portion of the city pushes the city's commercial disrtict upwards towards the city's northern neighbor of Chubbuck.
Sedona Arizona is home to many historical sites. The three main sites that I picked are the
Visiting the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was a great experience. At first walking into the museum we found there to be many artifacts and examples of the Indians used in their daily lives. Walking around the museum it was nice to see all the items we spoke and read about in class. My first impressions were that the museum would be born but seeing and reading about something is very different and being able to capture the real beauty of Indian lives was a great experience.
Arizona’s historical development dates back to thousands of years ago. Arizona holds the second largest amount of indigenous/ Native American population of any other state in the United States. One of the first groups of people to live on Arizona’s land was the Native Americans, or otherwise called the American Indians. These Natives came much before any of the Europeans, or the Spanish settlers came to Arizona. There were three main Native American groups that truly began the exploration of Arizona. These groups include the Anasazi, Hohokam, and Mogollon tribes. Each of their tribes settled in different sections of Arizona ranging from Northeastern to Southeastern parts of the land.
This is a must-see when you’re in the area. You can view multimedia displays, and the museum has a permanent collection as well as visiting collections. Past exhibits have included a display on Prohibition, a collection of information on Greek restaurants, and a celebration of America’s world fairs. You never know what will be on display at the MOAHI if you make an unplanned trip, but you can be sure that whatever you find there will be fascinating.
Identity is one of the main questions throughout all of our readings, because it is hard for people to accept who they are in society. Accepting their identity as a minority with little if any freedoms
I firmly believe that the point of visiting a museum is to educate one on how things once were in the past through its display of artifacts, exhibits, art, cultural objects, etc. Its purpose is to let you imagine what it was like during a time you were not apart of or, in some cases, allow you to look back at a time you were apart of when you were very young. The African-American Museum of Long Island did a great job at presenting some of the many African-American contributions to society. In addition to presenting contributions from the African-American community, the museum was able to show us some of the struggle they were required to overcome as well.
On my visit to the Japanese American Museum I learned plenty of History from a culture that I would have never pictured myself going into depth with. I learned of the roots of the Japanese, religion, and injustices that they faced throughout decades. Within all this I also learned what was the communities way of communication.
Before I went to the museum, my prospective about a museum was poor expectations. What can a museum will offer? , this was one of the questions that I always had in mind. For these reasons, I never thought that I could enjoy a museum tour. However, everything change after visited the Phoenix Art Museum. I went to the trip with poor expectations, but since I arrived in the lobby with all of my classmates and the professor. I started feel that this trip will be sash an educational experience.
Identity was prevalent throughout the movie. A part that comes to mind immediately was through racial identity. This identity has arisen by social construction to categorize people into different groups, largely to make people superior to others ((Samovar, L. A., Porter, R. E., McDaniels, E. R., & Roy, C. S., 2017). To
Identity in a sociological sense is more than individual genetics or individuality. Self identity is made up by many characteristics including; our personal experiences, beliefs, socio-economic status and other factors. Society plays a huge role in determining identity, although true identity generally isn’t a true reflection of an individual’s self identity. Over the generations there have been
Museums serve as a way to connect with the public on a large scale, and the knowledge held within exhibits can be a fruitful experience for those who choose to visit these institutions. Experiencing all that a museum has to offer, no matter how well intentioned, can at times be confusing and overwhelming to the individuals visiting the site. The Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian dedicates itself to Native Americans in North and South America, and worked tirelessly with varying tribes to create a new standard. Some visitors and scholars found their work to be successful in design and approach while others found it to be lacking in execution. This institution does not approach Native American history in a familiar fashion; however it does cover an expansive period of time, and produces a great amount of detail while generating powerful emotions.
In recent years, identity has been open to discussion and reflection. One's identity has now been subject to change. There are still major cultural categories of identity, for example:
Throughout my life, certain identities have remained consist. And these identities have come to shape my perspectives and my needs and wants within American culture. Typically, my social
