Reading has impacted my life in many ways. The two books that impacted my life greatly are Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick. It helped me through every crisis I had in life. It increased my understanding on things I knew little about. I am very appreciative to the authors of these novels because they helped me to grow into the person I am today. Tuesdays with Morrie gave me some helpful advice that others could not give me. It taught me that we must have no regrets and should always be true to ourselves and others. Never Fall Down informed me of all the violence other countries face and the hardships they went through. It taught me to love for my family because most of those families who went through
The book, The spirit Catches you as you Fall Down by Anne Fadiman follows the life of a Hmong family living in the city of Merced California after fleeing their home in Laos due to persecution. The main focus of the book is a little girl named Lia Lee who suffers tragedy in her life at a very young age. The book illustrates the differences between the healing methods, or medical procedures between the western culture and the Hmong culture, and how if affected Lia and her family as she grew up. The book goes into great detail when it comes to the cultural differences and the hegemony from one culture to the other.
Books first impacted my life at the young age of 5, when I had first begun Kindergarten. Although I may have not been very good at reading, the pictures and words simultaneously intrigued me. I saw myself picking up a new book at every opportunity, and even begged my mom to take me to the library so I could check out as many books as my little arms could carry. Another thing that
Reading and Writing Throughout my life reading and writing have impacted my life in many different ways. It has helped me express myself. Reading and writing have never been my strongest subjects; however, if I find a book that spikes my interest, I would never put it down. Those books are the ones that have impacted my life so much and how I think about life.
“Tuesday of the Other June” by Norma Fox Mazer, is a realistic short story about a nice girl, named June , who is going to swim class. Later on in swim class she meets another girl in swim class. Her name is June.
Throughout the novel Tuesdays With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness, and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals “The Meaning of Life,” which they discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death, Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this wisdom.
The books that made me was the Percy Jackson series. They taught me that people from all backgrounds, disabilities and struggles can make a huge impact on the world in so many ways. One thing most people would not know about me is that I have dyslexia it is not something that I love to talk about because I don't want people to look at me different or act a certain way towards me. In the book Percy Jackson he battles with the same disabilities and still found away to impact and change the world and as a kid growing up that was huge. And growing up it has always been a struggle for me to get up and read in front of a class but as I have grown through high school I have gain a certain amount of courage that if I was to read in front of one im
To me, reading means many things, not only the reading of text on a page but actions of others and myself as well. Most other people may not say that they will think of baseball games when thinking of how they read in real life, but I view the game of baseball that way and I like to share about how I can read in many different ways in life. Reading books is definitely not one of my favorite hobbies to do, but every once in a while I will find a good book that will catch my interest for the next couple of months. My learning experience from reading on the field has taught me another meaning of literacy that I would not have realized if I had not thought about what reading really meant to me. I can now understand how I use reading in all different aspects of my life better, and not just in the classroom but throughout my everyday activities, like baseball.
"I do not trust people who don 't love themselves and yet tell me, 'I love you. ' There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt." This is a quote by Mayra Angelou that it clearly explains that, having kindness for yourself is the most important thing for people. Having kindness for yourself it’s the first step that everyone should take. “Suicide Note” by Janice Mirikitani talks about a girl who committed suicide just because she didn’t have kindness for herself. I choose to compare the reading by Mirikitani with chapter number five “It’s Never Too Late” of the book “When Things Fall Apart” by Pema Chodron because this chapter talks about how people should start having kindness for themselves. This is a part of the book that Asian-American girl who committed suicide, which Mirikitani talks should have read it before taking the decision to end her life.
“If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all”(by Oscar Wilde). Originally, I disliked reading, but soon did I realize that the only reason I despised reading was because I kept reading the wrong type of books. By reading a wide selection of different types of books this year, it really opened up my eyes. In other words, by reviewing numerous amount of books, it has impacted me by making me realize that a book is just more then thousands of words and hundreds of pages. But instead a story that has dramtically impacted me and how i can look upon situations. That being said, by reading and viewing many different books, it has changed my outlook on how I judge relating to reading and books.
Yes, a book has helped me think about an issue in my life. Not many books help you, but there was this one book it was ‘Love, Aubrey’ by Suzanne LaFleur; this book made me realize that wherever you go, you'll always have people around you that care about you. At one time I thought that I had no friends but hey, I put that negativity out of my head and I had a lot of friends.
Literary reading has helped me learn the skills of qualitative judgement, empathy, and imagination by allowing me to have a creative outlook and open mind as a read through text.
A book that has impacted my life was the book Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck that my English 10 class had to read. Of Mice and Men has impacted my life more than other books have. Of Mice and Men impacted my life because it is actually among the very few books that I like that I have read. I liked the book Of Mice and Men because of the book’s description and detail. There are many parts in Of Mice and Men that showed symbolisms if you paid close enough attention to the book.
I haven’t read very many books in my life, so the selection to choose from to find one that changed my life is very slim. Among those books is the Bible and none of the others have had anywhere near the impact this one has had on me. By reading the Bible, it caused me to have a better life by strengthening my relationship and connection with God.
Reading has always been a pass time I enjoyed doing, there was just something about the fact that endless stories could be created with a combination of words and phrases. Without a doubt, Reading expands one’s knowledge on endless topics as well as expands creativity through inspiration of the various works and forms or literature. Personally, as I grew older and more curious with reading I began exploring different genres to read. My causal reading went from basic non-fiction books to reading things like
The following books have affected me deeply, starting in my character then moving into my personality and they both show up in my daily life, making me into the man I am today. The list starts off with the Bible, Gods Word, a living book that was written by God, Himself through men, to draw all people to His saving Grace and if we allow it to, this book not on affects your life but will change it if you let it. The second book that has profoundly affected my life would have to be My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers. His deep insight, into the things of God and His wisdom, written in ways that the common man can understand and run with it. The last two books that affected me deeply are titled Christian Paramedical Review and A Paramedic
