Part C. 1. Project Title The sustainability impacts of waste in the Tuggerah Lakes Estuary. 2. Problem Statement The Tuggerah Lakes Estuary has recently been affected by an influx of rubbish into the waterways that has an enormous affect on the multiple ecosystems that rely on the lakes being healthy. This rubbish comes from the general every day litter that finds its way into the numerous rivers and streams that lead to the Lakes and from sediments from building sites with the increased number of dwellings as more people call the Central Coast home (Wyong Council, 2015a). This project plan will investigate the environmental impacts of waste in the Tuggerah Lakes Estuary, exploring what causes the waste and solutions as to how the problem …show more content…

Organisations such as the NICA make sure that the green land is healthy and maintained as well as the Health of the mangroves. Mangroves are a very important part of Lake Doonella as they feed many animals and filter the water so the it's clear and clean for the animals living there. (Noosa Integrated Catchment Association, n.d)
Silver Creek Wetland Complex is a rare coastal wetland found along the eastern side of the Nottawasaga Bay Shoreline. It falls within the town boundary of the Town of Collingwood, which was formally a part of the Town of Blue Mountains. Because the area is a part of the greater Silver Creek Watershed, the marshy land is classified as a Schedule B Category 1 land under Environmental Protection as per the Official Plan of the Town of Collingwood. Blue Mountain Trust Watershed Practice monitors the watershed and the significant wetland is protected and maintained by Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority. The 2700 Ha watershed flows through the “Lake of Clouds” by Castle Glen, down the Niagara Escarpment, where the 160 Ha complex at the
As a rower who uses Lake Samish as a place to practice every day, I am quite aware of the poor water quality and debris within the lake. Other users and residents of the community around Lake Samish can attest to the fact that something is quite wrong, considering the lake has recently turned from a dark blue, to an obscure brown color. Unfortunately, while in the middle of a race piece a few days back, our boat nearly crashed into a full lawn chair just floating about in the lake. Samish resident David can agree the pollution has increased, as he stated that he and his wife enjoy kayaking on the tranquil waters each weekend. In merely the

(Davies et al., 1992). The eastern arm which is the largest arm is fed by two (merrion and Stackpole) which drain the sandstone ridge, while the western, central arms and the central lake are fed predominantly by groundwater which flows from the limestone aquifer. And about two third of the catchments is use for gazing while the other is use for arable farming. (Holman and Vale., 2009). And the lakes can be level lowered through evapotranspiration and groundwater which discharge to the sea.
The Great Lakes have been under threat for the last two centuries, but the situation is the far worse today. It use to be believed that dumping sewage or chemicals into rivers and lakes was a great way to dilute and disperse it. As it turns out, it's not a good idea since those are the very rivers and lakes that we get our drinking water from. In recent decades, a lot has been done to stop that practice, but the sources and amount of pollution keeps skyrocketing each year. This pollution in the lakes must be stop at once or else bad consequences will be appond us because of it
Water is the most relied upon resource on earth and if it disappeared life could not and would not exist on this planet. So if one of our main sources of water in South Australia, The Murray Darling-Basin, becomes unusable then we would need to find the problem and do everything possible to stop it or counteract it. This report investigates on salinity in the Murray Darling-Basin, using the issue question “Is there enough being done to counteract the effects of salinity in the Murray?” as the focus. Salinity is a key significant environmental challenge which the Murray faces and if left unmanaged it could cause serious implications for water quality, plant growth, biodiversity, land productivity, infrastructure and could lead to a loss of
Today, this briefing note is put to you the 'National Taskforce on Environmental Science and Sustainable Development' in response to Urbanisation and its effects on Australias’ waterways. This is fast becoming a critical environmental issue affecting Australia.
The land in the Woronora Special Area is mostly owned by the Sydney Catchment Authority. A small area of privately owned land, mainly used for stock agistment and horticulture, lies in the southern part of the catchment.
Garbage in the Great Lakes are harming the Earth and making it unhealthy. Garbage is especially harming the animals and the Garbage is polluting the water. How should we prevent people from littering. Also how can we make the Earth more healthy?
It includes areas from the south side of Botany Bay, around Port Hacking to the north of the Shoalhaven River (Nowra) and extending inland west to Campbelltown and Camden. (Heiss, A., & McCormack, T. ,2002) The Gundungurra Aboriginal Tribal Council write: ‘Our ancient country is an identification of our physical and spiritual relationship with our land which spans the country from the Upper Blue Mountains to the south west through the Jamison and Burragorang Valleys towards Goulburn’. (n.d.) The region played a significant role in protecting the headwaters of the Georges River and the biodiversity of the southern Sydney region as well as creating the connecting corridors that are so vital for the resilience of a National Park. There are more than 200 upland swamps in the area filtering pure water into Sydney’s drinking water, which represent the highest concentration on mainland Australia . (Boyd, Anne.
The Parramatta River estuary is the main tributary of Sydney Harbor. Creek in the west to the confluence of the Lane Cover River in the east (Parramatta River Catchment Group 2016). It is an Intermediate tide dominated river , tidal up to the Charles Street
Effluent is a typical waste that would be generated. It increases the chance of contamination to the waters around the RCH, more specifically, the Parramatta River. The effect of effluent becomes even more profound when the Parramatta River has not reached a swimmable level of cleanliness. Habit destruction may occur after the completion of the RCH, where the booming development of this “second CBD” may cause anthropogenic ecosystem change. For example, effluent emitted by the RCH which ends up in the river could taint the water with chemical and microbial substances, resulting in the decrease of aquatic life.
Another cause of marine pollution is the discarding of garbage into oceans, rivers and dams. The situation is a major problem causing harm to marine life and ecosystems all over the world. Old
Among the fourteen billion pounds of garbage produced across the globe annually, only a mere one to two percent of it becomes recycled, leaving the rest to be littered across the world’s oceans. To make matters worse, our freshwater supply is also polluted by oil spills and corroded pipelines. As if that was not enough, everyday our air becomes a mixture of chemicals and other harsh air pollutants that result in more damage to the earth. For our convenience, we managed to package everything from household goods, to bottled drinks and depend on pipelines for our water source, however such luxury comes at the expense of mass pollution which puts the world’s oceans at risk especially. Although the situation may seem grim, these current circumstances can still be reversed.
