One of America’s most infamous attacks comes in the form of the Pearl Harbor. Throughout most of World War II, America led with an Isolationism-based policy that saw the country avoid foreign affairs. This policy was followed until the late 1930’s and early 1940’s when America began to see how the war affected its surrounding allies and the incoming threat of a possible attack in the Pacific Ocean. ‘The date the will live in infamy’ coined by sitting president Franklin D. Roosevelt, saw on December 7, 1941, Japanese airmen bombed the U.S. naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This horrific assault led Franklin D. To return to the subject of turning points, it is sometimes forgotten that America during this struggle saw a change on the home-front also. America saw the death of its then sitting president Franklin Roosevelt who Harry Truman took over for. While the war was primarily fought by men, subsequently, this saw the rise of women, who began to take up factory and military jobs such as airwomen and war nurses. Incidentally, while America wanted a façade that said racism and equivalent forms of bigotry was from a past America, it couldn’t escape this frame of mind because of Japanese internment camps, segregated fighting units, and other forms of discrimination. African-American and other minority servicemen, while treated awful and placed in the separated units, fought two fronts, the war and perhaps birthed the civil rights movement. This led to the phase ‘double-V’, victory from war and segregation must be together. The final turning point is the Atomic bombs and the Manhattan project. To be brief, under the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Manhattan project led to the creation of the Atomic bombs that would be used against Japan. As a result, while this nuclear based weaponry led to science discoveries, it also started a standoff with Allied Power Soviet Union known
