The Tale of the Gemini Twins
The myth of the two brothers can be found in over several civilizations; however, the most well known version comes from the Greeks. In the tale, Leda, wife of Tyndareus, king of Sparta, was seduced by Zeus in the form of a swan and, from both of these unions, she birthed two sets of twins, fathered by both Zeus and Tyndareus. These children were Clytemnestra and Helen (who would later become the infamous Helen of Troy) along with Castor and Pollux. Though the two shared the same mother, Caster was fathered by the mortal king, while Pollux was fathered by Zeus, granting him immortality. Pollux and Castor did everything together. They joined Jason as his Argonauts, they boxed and rode horses together, raided
When his dad died he left his throne to Amilus, but Numitor took away Amilus throne, and he became the king. Amilus wanted the throne, so he decided to make Numitor’s daughter a priestess, so no one could inherit the throne, but no matter what Numitor’s daughter had 2 baby boys that were twins. Amulius ordered them to be killed and they were abandoned on the bank of the Tiber river to die. They were rescued, and later a shepherd adopted them. When they grew up, the twins set out to build a city of their own.
Gaea married Uranus and they had children. Uranus was a bad father, so his son Cronus overthrew him. Now Cronus was the leader, he married his sister Rhea and had kids, but swallowed them because it was told they would overthrow him one day. Zeus, Cronus son managed to survive and later killed his father and took over.
She tricked Cronus to eat a magic herb. Cronus threw up the stone and the children. Zeus other siblings are, the boys or the gods are Hades and Poseidon. Zeus’ sisters or the goddess’ are Hestia.Demeter, and Hera. After that Cronus surrendered and fled. The Titans and and sons revolted. The titans were Prometheus and Epimetheus. Zeus also freed Gaea’s sons from Tartarus. The cyclops made weapons. Zeus had his lightning bolts. Poseidon has his trident. Hades has his cape of invisibility. The Titans lost, they were sent to Tartarus and they are guarded by a monster. Atlas the strongest titan holde the sky up forever. Gaea is angry. Typhor dies, Echidna and gos fled. Zeus had five siblings named Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. Cronus was terrified of the possible situation that his offspring might steal his power because he overthrew his father’s reign to get the power the ultimate power. Due to his constant fear of being taken over, he made Rhea, his wife, give over all their children at birth so that he could eat them so that there was no possible threat to his reign; however, when Rhea was pregnant with Zeus, the youngest, she tricked Cronus. She deceived Cronus by giving birth to Zeus in secrecy, and then handing him over to Gaea (Zeus’ “grandparent”) in Crete. Zeus was then lead to Mount Dicte where he stayed in a secret cave behind it.
Another myth this story resembles is Zeus and his father, Cronus. In the myth Cronus is a
His affair with a woman named Leto led to the birth of the twins Apollo and Artemis. Hera being the jealous wife she was, forced Leto to roam the earth in search of a place to give birth, for Hera had stopped her from gaining shelter on land or at sea. The only place she could go was to the isle of Delos in the middle of the Aegean Sea, for Delos was a floating island. This would be one of many of Hera’s revenges on her husband’s affairs. Zeus used many different disguises to seduce women. When he seduced the Spartan queen Leda, he transformed himself into a beautiful swan, and from the egg which Leda produced, two sets of twins were born. They were Polydeuces and Castor and Clytemnestra and Helen of Troy. He also visited princess Danae as a shower of gold, and from this, the hero Perseus was born. He kidnapped the Phoenician princess Europa, disguised as a bull, then carried her on his back to the island of Crete where she had three sons. They were Minos, Rhadamanthys, and Sarpedon. These were just some of his many children. Zeus had many Temples and festivals in his honor, the most famous was Olympia, the magnificent "Temple of Zeus", which held the gold and ivory statue of the enthroned Zeus, which was sculpted by Phidias. It was later to become one of the "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World". Also the Olympic Games and many other numerous festivals throughout Greece were held in
Romulus and Remus were twin boys born to a princess named Rhea Silvia. Their father was the fierce Roman god of war, Mars. The king where the boys lived was scared that someday Romulus and Remus would overthrow him and take his throne. So he had the boys left in a basket on the Tiber River. He figured they would soon die. The boys were found by a she-wolf. The wolf cared for them and protected them from other wild animals. A nice woodpecker helped to find them food. Eventually some shepherds happened across the twins. One shepherd took the boys home and raised them as his own children. As the boys grew older they became natural leaders. One day Remus was captured and taken to the king. He discovered his true identity. Romulus gathered some
Rhea Silvia was a vestal virgin who, it is alleged, was raped by Mars, the God of War. This act resulted in the birth of twin brothers, Romulus and Remus. The twins, born of noble blood – Rhea’s grandfather was ruler at the time – were to be drowned in the Tiber river by order of Rhea’s uncle to prevent potential future challenges to the throne by the
Prometheus was the son of Iapetus and Clymene, and a son of four. The first one is Atlas, the brother which was forced to bear the heavens on his shoulders, later to be relieved by being turned to stone. Second, Menoitios, the arrogant brother that was later killed by Zeus. Last and definitely least, Epimetheus, the brother known for his foolishness and stupidity. His name even means ‘forethought’, the exact opposite of Prometheus’s name. Most could say they perfectly contrast each other.
Among mortals lives' that were influenced by Zeus, Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, husband and wife, were the children of Zeus and Leda. Although they had different earthly fathers, the incestuous relationship between Agamemnon and Clytemnestra brought a curse upon their house for two generations. It was finally destroyed by Orestes, their youngest son, whom Justice allowed to go free.
The Greek myth I shall elaborate on is that of Atreus and his twin brother Thyestes. It is a very perverse myth; it contains adultery and very distasteful cannibalism, however unintended it may have been. After Atreus took over the Kingdom of their father Pelops, Atreus also
The story tells that Hercules is the son of Zeus and Alcmene but raised by Amphitryon, husband of Alcmene, because Hera was angry with Zeus for having
Theseus, unlike many of the Greek heroes, was not only the son of a god, but a mortal man as well. Some versions of the myth claim that his dual paternity was caused by his mother having relations with both Poseidon, god of the sea, and Aegeus, the king of Athens, in the same night. Other version claim he was the son of either one or the other. Before Theseus was born, King Aegeus left a pair of sandals and his sword in a hollow covered
Castor and Pollux were known as the Great Twins and were regraded to as minor gods in Greek mythology. Their names were Meshlamtaea and Lugalirra, which meant 'The One who has arisen from the Underworld' and the 'Mighty King'. Both names are understood in the Babylonian astronomy as the titles of Nergal, the major Babylonian god of plague and pestilence, who was king of the Underworld. However in Greek mythology Castor and Pollux are the children of Leda and Argonauts both. Pollux is the son of Zeus, however, Castor is the son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta and leda`s husband.
This story starts of the same with Zeus and Hera being the parents of Hephaestus but there’s a difference Hera had produce an offspring Hephaestus on her own. When the labor was over Hera was presented to his son she was in shock because he was born deformed twisted in the feet. Without anyone being able to stop her she pick up Hephaestus and hurled him off Olympus strait into the sea. Hera was too much of a proud goddess she could not have a son that was less then perfect. Without Zeus unconscious and any other god ever knowing of him he was soon forgotten.
