There are two elements that make up a crime, the act and the intent. The act, also known as "actus reus" is the crime itself ranging anywhere from a homicide to a robbery. The intent, or "mens rea" is the purpose of the crime. There are many reasons a person would commit a crime. Whether it be because they are under the influence, for survival/self-defense, or even for the revenge of a loved one.
In addition, all crimes have different features such as legality and punishment. Legality is the feature that is worried with the fact of behavior that cannot be criminal. Punishment specifies the punishment for a crime that a person is found guilty for. Some examples of this would be if someone commits fraud they will go to jail for a certain amount
