The two Improv shows I went to were the Midnite show and the Comedy Sportz Show. Both shows were incredibly well done from the production to the improv itself. The Midnite show had me laughing out loud which is something rare for me at least. My whole life I have done relativity clean improv and to see an X-rated version of it was hilarious. The format for the Midnite show was like the improv I do where there is a selection of games performed for the audience and suggestions are taken by the audience yelling. While Comedy Sportz was the first time I have ever seen competitive improv, it was very interesting to see how they turn improv into a sport and how they use color coordination for audience suggestions. But in my personal preference I
The show as a whole was very entertaining as a whole. The person who was impersonating Alice did a very good job at mimicking his stage presence and looked very much like him. There were lots of stage effects such as interesting lighting and fog machines. There were also lots of cool props copied from the real Alice Cooper’s shows. One prop they copied—which was also one of the highlights of the show—was an electric chair.
The 19th century was a time period full of disagreements and wishful thinking. During this time, African Americans were trying to become free from slavery. This led to a Civil War. The 1800’s were a hard time for African Americans, after the Civil War many expressed their thoughts and feelings through plays like Minstrel Shows and other forms of theatre.
The most improvisations I heard from was clarinetist, Anat Cohen, especially when she was interacting with the pianist, Fred Hersch. After the trio of the pianist, bassist, and the drummer, she came out as a special guest and interacted with the pianist. It was very impressive how they were playing their instruments as if they were having a conversation; sometimes they would respond to each other’s sound, and sometimes they were talking at the same time. Since it was only two of them playing the instruments, I think it was easier for them to improvise since it is easier to do so than there are four people playing at the same
Overall, the show was every entertaining and I did enjoy watching these two commending bring something different to the table as far as their style. Both comedians talked about touchy topics such as race and sex. First up was Arnez. Arnez is a professional comedian and is a respectable one. He talked about who he is as a person and his background as. He has a comedy show that he makes fun of racism. Also, he leads into talking about peronal thing such as his brother Rodny because he is handycap. He tells to stories of what has happenend to him and his family. Arnez presents himslef as a no offencsive comedian that makes you want to go see him again. The adience can tell that he really puts in alot of effored into his work. However, Aries
The first two shows didn’t leave much of an impression on me because of the pacing but the final show stood out from them. The curtains were pulled away and a bright blue, yellow aura bounded around the stage. Dancers began to take their place, yet they were far from the center of the stage. The most dancers out of any performance before were just about to begin and then the smooth jazz-like music roared out to the audience.
The music performance I went to see was the University Symphony Halloween concert held in Comstock Concert Hall. This was the first time I had been to a symphony production and was eager to see what was in store. The show started off with each part of the orchestra introducing themselves in different costumes and skits. For example, the cellos were dressed in camouflage and the tubas were dressed as sheep. After a long introduction the lights dimmed and the show started. Attending this performance opened my eyes to how many elements there really were to music. It also showed me how each specific element has its own specific roll and impact on each performance.
The most successful aspect of the performance for me were the scene changes. I found that the rotation of the blackboard, center stage, where the actors were able to stoop beneath it in order to enter and exit the stage, was an effective touch to this
Should China revalue the yuan against the dollar? If so, what impact may this have on (1) US balance of payments, (2) Chinese balance of payments, (3) relative competitiveness of Mexico and Thailand, (4) firms such as Wal-Mart, and (5) US and Chinese retail consumers?
Realism provides only amoral observation, while absurdism rejects even the possibility of debate. (Frances Babbage, Augusto Boal). The cynicism of this remark reflects the aberrant attitude towards absurdism, yet there is truth to it. Theatre of the absurd is an esoteric avant-garde style of theatre based on the principles of existentialism that looks at the world without any assumption of purpose. Existentialism and Theatre of the Absurd became identified with a cultural movement that flourished in Europe in the 1940s and 1950s, after the Second World War. The idea that man starts with nothing and ends with nothing is a common theme amongst most absurd plays. Despite this strange philosophy, Theatre of the
“The Miller's Tale” in the Canterbury Tales provides insight into the morality of people of medieval England by showing the Miller’s views on religion, heroic ideals, and common morality. Religion at this time was defined by a religious code outlined in the Bible and the ten commandments. Even though all men were expected to live by these laws, those closely related to the church, like Absalom, were expected to never break from these codes. Heroism involved a set of ideals that were meant to guide men to a heroic state of being. A hero was supposed to seek revenge and never let a crime go unpunished. Common morality was the behavioral code all men were expected to follow and it is essentially what we now call common courtesy. This
Although there were just the slightest things that could be changed and that is that when Molly's part to sing came her voice was barely heard from the middle seats and also the half time food could have been better but aside from that it was great, amazing, astonishing, expectations met! For the first show attending this year it was great that is why I definitely recommend people should go and have an amazing time like I
In a drama, dynamic characters undergo changes in behavior, outlook, or attitude. Writer, Arthur Miller displays these changes in character John Proctor. The Crucible takes place in the small town of Salem, which goes through a time of what they believe was a devil takeover. John Proctor is introduced as a quiet yet firm and respected farmer, but by the end of act 4 Proctor is portrayed as courageous, due to him having enough of everyone and everything.
The second performance that I attended was probably my most favorite. Having a background in playing the trumpet watching a listening to Christian Gordon play was simply dazzling. On Saturday October 2nd his trumpet produced a buzzing sound that started a standing wave tremor in the air. The sound produced by the blowing of air through his closed lips electrified the room. He started his piece with a loud but mellow sound arrangement that to me sounded different and had a very peculiar start to a trumpet concert. But as he continued you could actually feel the tone of the song to change very slowly, his piece in the art of song was very emotional almost like a roller-coaster. In all it really intrigued from his crazy start to a relaxed middle and a soft end. In all his performance was great, his ability to control the trumpet and its vigorous demands really amazed not only me but the crowd as well, to him you could tell it was comforting when the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
To begin, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Going into it I didn’t expect it to be as entertaining as it was.
This semester I have experience many live musical performances. Some of these performances have let me down but for the most part, these performances have been everything I ever expected. My two favorite performances this semester were Festival Vallenato and Ultra Music Festival. Although these two types of music are different in every way possible, the people and the performers are exactly where I feel I am in the right place.
