The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work.
As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these challenges with each piece they write.
Within the past eight weeks, I have realized my strengths and weaknesses within the writing process. I have realized that I do not utilize the first step within the writing process of prewriting. However, for the drafting, revising, and polishing steps of the writing process, I am very familiar and use additional resources to strengthen the writing assignment. I create multiple drafts, which includes revising and polishing in each step. Therefore, I use all three of these steps in multiple drafts as I reach the final product for
Looking back on my experience of writing the first two long essays, I would say I faced multiple challenges. My first challenge was how to begin writing, especially on the first long essay. For the first long essay my biggest mistake was not making a rough outline and that made the writing process take much longer and it clearly was a struggle. I kept hitting writer’s block as I stared at my screen, not knowing what to write next. Another challenge was how to think critically, I was stumped at how to associate the book Harold and Maude with something I had previously come across. After spending hours and hours of rereading and making notes, I finally found a connection that helped tie my essay up. It was only after I finished with
Have you ever have had challenges while writing a paper for your teachers. Well throughout my first semester I was looking forward to learning how to write a paper without using incorrect grammar and run on sentences. In Composition I there were easy times and difficult times when I was going to give up. But I was consistence went to the teacher getting help when I did not understand the instructions. Also then there was times when the teacher was busy; so I received assistance from the other classmates.
Before beginning to teach the new writing strategies to Kemoni and the rest of the class, I will work with all the learning-disabled students to improve their phonics, spelling, and grammar skills. Because the students are older and have some language and reading comprehension deficits, the class will begin to work on their comprehension skills by incorporating reading pause and reflect techniques. I will assign short reading passages for homework and the students will be required to read, jot down the main idea and supporting ideas, and write a brief summary. Also, I will re-teach some basic phonics lessons which will help students to think when they come to unfamiliar words. Strengthening these skills will help students to become stronger
This course as you stated has been very complicated to me as well at times. However, the course has offered many valuable tools for us to utilize in preparing for our research-based paper. Proofreading your paper is important to ensure all errors are corrected before submitting your paper in for grading. I would like to congratulate you on your renewed inspiration of journal writing again.
I am only a senior in high school. There are many challenges I face when it comes to writing. Keeping my sentences grammatically correct, spelling, and having a paragraph that makes sense. All of these things are areas that I know I can improve on with practice. One thing that holds me back is my lack of drive to want to learn about it. I am passionate about many things, my cooking, crafts, and clubs I am involved in for example, but reading and writing have never been something I am extremely interested in.
In the presentation video, one of the steps in writing a paper I can discuss is proofreading. Proofreading is primarily about searching your essay for errors. Proofreading can be a difficult process, especially when you are not sure to the sentence itself rather than to the ideas of the paper as a whole. One of the best ways I think for all of us in writing process method is to revise; the paper is with their peers. Often when peers revise another person's writing, they can notice quite of few of the mistakes that the original author never would have noticed. Sure, this takes a little extra time, but it pays off in the end. If you know that you have an effective way to catch errors when the paper is almost finished, you can worry less about
Proofreading one’s own work is a cumbersome task. A day or two should be spent doing this and when proofreading, attention should be paid to look for errors related to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Care should be taken to ensure that the text is clear as well as logically organized. All the necessary citations and references should be mentioned and reading aloud would aide in the
Proofreading is the most essential aspect of writing, and can determine if the paper or document is well written, easy to read, and distinctly communicates the message. It’s important when a writer is proofreading their own material. The proofreading process is adequate as writers practice and develops new strategies to the process. Writers can better identify areas where they can be further attentive, and acquiring a sound method for finding errors will assist a writer on the development ideas while drafting a
Every child learns differently; some learn easily, and some have difficulty processing the information that is given to them. My parents taught me the basics of reading and writing, they bought me books and letter blocks to form words with. In my experience, it was easy for me to learn how to read, although, my struggles began with writing. I can not put the blame on my teachers, although, they weren’t much help either. That was until I entered Middle School, my sixth grade English teacher changed my whole perspective of the subject.
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
about to write inksheds, I don’t need to think too much about the grammars, spellings and punctuation, what should I do is just keep writing and do not stop. No matter what comes to mind, I will just write that down. It could help me come up more fantastic ideas and make my writing’s content more thoughtful. Also, I learned something about how to revise my writing, such as rewrite and proofreading. There’s no doubt that making a good revision is extremely necessary before I submit my writing to my professors, publishers or someone else. At the same the same time, I did learn how to revise other’s writing, like only focus on the content or give comments in the marginal line. I think one important thing about what I have learned is the writing about quick guide. There’s no doubt that it is extremely useful for my rest university writing. I know my writing’s content should be based on the readers, and quick guide study makes me make my content clear and make readers get information easier from my text. During the class, I recognized what kind of writer, what I need to improve as well as what kind of writing skills I need to master, so it is so good to my next couple years’ university writing.
Throughout this semester, I have been faced with many challenges. One of these challenges was not knowing how to correctly use the comma. But with the quizzes we took and many writings we wrote, it has really helped my writing. For example, at the beginning of the year when I wrote my introduction letter, I was writing sentences that were short, choppy and not very complex. But now, I have moved passed that and am using bigger and better sentences. Just like in my research paper when I used this sentence, “For instance, an old Pittsburgh Steelers center, Mike Webster, had played in the National Football League for seventeen years”(Peter). This sentences shows me being able to use a comma in the right place and it is even a complex sentence. However, I know if we did not have those tests, I would not be as good with them as I am now.
