es amongst the NHL. He wears number 8 for the Columbus Blue Jackets and has proven himself and showed his potential to play at such a high level of hockey. But how did he get there? What was the process like? Zach Werenski got himself to the NHL by proving his ability to play the game at such a young age, and by continuing his hockey career throughout college and working to do whatever it would take to get where he wanted to be.
any playing time, on the Rangers but he only played 16 and they were decent
In ninth grade, he was a measly 4-9, and by time he transferred to Lake Forest, he was an underrecruited-for-his-age junior, though he grew to be a stockier 6-2. He decided to attend Rice University, where he set a school freshman record in assists and was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team.
The nine-teen year old Konecny who was selected 24th overall by the Flyers a summer ago is knocking on the door of the NHL. Konecny is a highly skilled forward who isn’t a afraid to play physical. Konecny scored 30 goals last season in the Ontario Hockey League. Konecny totaled 101 points in 60 games. Flyers General Manger Ron Hextall had this to say about Konecny “Travis is a High-Character kid. Works hard. He’s got speed and a lot of attraibutes we value. Konecny has played with both Claude Giroux and Jackub Voracek in the preseason so far and hasn’t disappointed the flyers. Konecny has 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 games for the Flyers this preseason.

“He does the simple things right that you would want a lacrosse player to do. He can pass, he can catch, he can shoot and honestly there’s not many players that have all three qualities. He can play offense, he can play defense and I’m never scared to have him in any position,” said Escalante.
Out of this list, I am intrigued by defenseman Mark Barberio, a Montreal-native. He is a quick skater for his big frame and has excellent vision offensively. He has been able to put up a lot of points in his junior career with the Moncton Wildcats (168 points in 261 games) and in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch (134 points in 215 games). He hasn't been able to bring that production to the NHL level, but at 25 years old, he remains an interesting depth
The team saw endless potential in Burke, who has rewarded their patience by blossoming into one of the WHL’s premier playmakers. Following a 34-point rookie year, Burke was expected to come in this year and provide depth, and he took that opportunity and ran with it. He’s currently the team’s leading scorer with 20 goals and a staggering 60 assists, and with Giorgio Estephan (BUF) on the shelf, the Hurricanes need him now more than ever. Eligible for this summer’s NHL Draft, Burke may soon find out that an NHL team needs him,
Mats grew up in Norway and excelled in hockey despite his size. When Mats was signed by the Rangers in 2013 he stood a modest 5’ 7” and was looked past by teams due to his extremely small size for a forward in the NHL. Despite his size growing up in Norway Mats was the most intriguing player to come into the Norwegian Hockey League in many years. After graduating from his high school in 2006, Mats was signed to become a regular starter for Frisk Asker’s first team and played his first full season. The following season he was voted the Norwegian Hockey League’s MVP, racking up 64 points in 33 contests and helped Frisk Asker to win their first Norwegian Championship in 30
Ho-Sang was always expected to make the team, so there is no surprise at all there. If he can manage the puck effectively in the neutral zone, there is no reason to believe he’ll do anything but keep fans, and more importantly, opponents, on the edge of their seats all season.
Ritchie is on fire in the AHL with eight goals in his first nine games, though his
Spoiler alert: Not at all. He's played fifteen games and it was physically impossible for anyone to keep up the torrid scoring pace he started out with. He's nineteen. He also has a weaker supporting cast than both McDavid and Crosby do.
The eighth-overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft is putting his skills on display every weekend, and is slowly climbing up the collegiate scoring charts. After posting 25 points in 35 games last year, Werenski looks like a future top-line defenseman in the making, and is already on pace to surpass those totals in his sophomore season. Werenski already has two goals and five assists in seven games, which includes two multi-point efforts against Union and Niagara. With an appearance on the United States U20 team on the horizon, Werenski is quickly proving to be one of the premier defenseman not currently playing
Throughout his career in the NHL, Gretzky scored 894 goals, picked up 1,963 assists for a combined total of 2,857 points. Most people know Gretzky for his years in Edmonton and Los Angeles, but he was very influential in every city he played in, captaining all four teams he played on, a very impressive feat. However, he was only captain of the Rangers when the full-time captain, Mark Messier was suspended. Gretzky’s +/- rating is also very impressive, a +518 rating for his whole NHL year. His +/- rating is one of the best all time. Gretzky’s stats not only show he could play by himself, but he was also a team player.
Under new management, the Windsor Spitfires are reaping the rewards of an 11th round pick in 2013, as Christian Fischer reneged on an agreement to play for the University of Notre Dame in favor of signing with the Coyotes and reporting to Windsor. The Spitfires happily welcomed Fischer, who already is turning heads in training camp with his rugged style and effective offensive game. After a 31 goal, 33 assist campaign with the United States Development team, it will be interesting to see how his game translates to the OHL.
