“Skin cancers are the most prevalent form of cancer in the Unites States An estimated 11,790 people die of skin cancer each year, 8700 from malignant melanoma” (Huether, McCance, 2012, p. 1058). Since melanoma is the most prevalent form of cancer, it is important to understand what causes it, what it does, who is at a higher risk, and possible treatment routes.

One of the most important things to remember is to wear sunscreen. Apply it 30 minutes before going outside. Remind yourself to re-apply every two hours. Always avoid tanning beds and harsh UV lights! Those are very dangerous, and they put your skin at risk. You should check your skin monthly for any mysterious marks or bumps. If you have any questions, then go to your dermatologist as soon as possible. Skin can can be cured, but it will never be truly gone. To be treated, the sores must be dug out with a scalpel, or sharp tool. The physician will dig out and around the surrounding skin to remove it. It is done until there is no cancer found. After the procedure, your body is still at risk, skin checks at the dermatologist will be more frequent, and skin protection will be of the utmost importance. Skin cancer can make skin age faster, or wrinkle more. Keeping skin healthy and cancer free, will guarantee a life of happy, healthy
This website has information about all the different surgeries and treatment methods that can be used to remove skin cancer from the body. There’s also information on age spots that can be caused from tanning that contradict with society’s view on tan skin. Some of the surgeries and treatment methods are quite complicated and hard to explain, so I plan on vaguely touching on them and focusing more on the age spot portion.
It presents as a hyperkeratotic, sometimes painful, nodules and ulcers. Squamous cell carcinoma is observed as an isolated firm nodule, red or reddish-brown in color, with ulceration and scales. It is painless, bleeds easily, and usually is found on sun-exposed areas (Saxon, 2010, p. 17). This type of skin cancer is usually treated with surgical excisions with wide margins of “normal” skin to ensure tumor clearance. Moh’s micrographic surgery and radiotherapy are two common procedures for this type of carcinoma” (Lacy,
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form of skin cancer. It occurs from exposure from the sunlight (ultraviolet radiation) along with smoking tobacco, chronic non-healing wounds, artificial UV radiation, certain genetic symptoms. Squamous cell carcinoma is usually treated with surgical excisions, electrodessication and Mohs surgery. There are nonsurgical options also which include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immune response topical modifiers and photodynamic therapy. Squamous cell carcinoma is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells arising in the squamous cells which are found in the skin upper layers (epidermis). It is mainly caused by an increase in quantity of UV exposure in a lifetime and long-term exposure to chemicals
Skin cancer is a disease that can affect any one. Skin cancer includes many types that can be classified as severe or superficial. Consequently, treatement of skin cancer depends on the degree of severity a person has. In the following paper, we will shed lights on the types of skin cancer and its causes. Finally, we will investigate how to treat the different types of cancer and how to avoid it.
Malignant melanoma is the most commonly seen skin cancer and it has the highest number of deaths among diseases of the skin (Friedman, Rigel, Kopf and Polsky, 2005). Among the many factors that cause this cutaneous cancer genetic modifications, viruses, carcinogens and excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays are the most commonly occurring (Friedman, Rigel, Kopf and Polsky, 2005). Malignant melanoma affects all areas of the skin and the disease forms in melanocytes, which are the cells in which pigments (melanin) are synthesized (Melanoma Treatment). The cancer has its origin in the epidermis and affect squamous and basal cells. The disease usually affects the trunk, arms and legs but can also be present in the eye, affecting the
Ways to prevent getting this skin disease would be wearing the right type of clothing while working outside or engaging in outdoor activities to protect the skin. Applying sunscreen and checking for early sign of skin cancer is another way to prevent developing this disease. When it comes to skin cancer, there are many treatment options to choose from in order to get rid of the tumor permanently. First off, there are treatment options for cancers that have spread to internal organs and can be treated with a mixture of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. For non-metastatic and non-staged tumors, conventional surgery and cryosurgery are both good options to choose from, but there’s a disadvantage when it comes to cryosurgery. In conventional surgery, the doctor performing the surgery will first numb the affected area with an injection of local anesthetic, next he will cut out the tumor and a small margin of normal skin around that area. Then the wound is secured with a few stitches. Advantages of having conventional surgery is that the wound heals quite quickly and that the complete cancer can be sent to a pathologist to evaluate it. The tumor can be treated instantly if the skin around the tumor is not free of cancer cells. The next type of entirely treatment is cryosurgery, the doctor uses a liquid nitrogen to freeze the tumor
"The rates of skin cancer have expanded consistently since the 1920s uncovers the risk of the American fixation on getting a "solid" tan. Skin tumor is an infection where growth (harmful) cells are found on the external layer of the skin (epidermis). The three sorts of cells found in the epidermis are squamous cells, basal cells, and melanocytes. These cells in time develop to be carcinogenic. Consequently, the three sorts of skin tumors are squamous cell, basal cell, and melanoma. Melanoma is the deadliest and dangerous kind of growth. The quantity of individuals with melanoma has ascended in Scotland from 3.5 in 1979 to 10.6 for each 100,000 in 1998 for men and 7.0 to 13.1 for ladies. One of the leading causes of death in the United States is cancer. Staggering cases have been reported yearly. There have been over 3.3 million diagnoses of Non Melanoma skin cancer. Currently, it is estimated that one out of every five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. People in the U.S. are diagnosed with skin cancer every day. The number of cases of skin cancer has increased steadily since the 1920s. Common types of skin cancer include: Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma, and Malignant Melanoma. It’s imperative to stay educated about our health and take preventive measures to decrease the chances of developing skin cancer.
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common form of skin cancer. Arising from keratinocytes of the stratum spinosum lesions. These lesions often appear, scaly red patches, reddened, or elevated eventually forming a conclave ulcer with elevated edges. If detected early and surgical removal the chances of recovery are high.If neglected and undetected cancer can metastasize spread to the lymph nodes and become deadly (Saladin,
