I feel as though one of the most important questions not asked on the general UC application is the reason I apply to each school. As for that, I am glad the wait-list option gives me a chance to elaborate on the true purpose of me applying to specifically, UC Berkeley. I think it is quite apparent that almost everyone has heard of UC Berkeley at least once sometime in their life. When I was much younger, I always heard about Berkeley whether it be from various internet articles or simply listening to people mention something about it. However, being a small child, I never really payed attention to what Berkeley really was. Even though UC Berkeley was the second University I have ever visited behind the University of Southern California, my …show more content…
We were learning about the Civil Rights Movement in the late 20th Century and within my textbook, I read about Berkeley’s contributions to the mass movement. During the 1960s, the Free Speech Movement and Civil Rights Movement were constantly fueled by a sequence of protests called the Berkeley Protests which were a series of events of Berkeley students standing up for what was right. I instantly fell in love with UC Berkeley as I read more and more about proud Berkeley students standing up for what they believed in politically and socially. See, my overall interest in Berkeley and being a Political Science major there does not only stem from its huge number of great programs but rather what I saw made someone a “person of Berkeley”. The more I read about Berkeley students, the more I am convinced that what makes them great are the social values instilled in them. The more I learn about Berkeley, the more I see that their students are people of great integrity and devotion to duty as they are members who give back to society and stand up for others. This was apparent of the students during the 1960s and even
Loyola Marymount University has been on my list of colleges ever since I stepped foot onto the campus in 2009. Five years later and my admiration of the school has still not reduced. Personally, I believe that without education, a person doesn't have the ability to become prosperous; education is the key to success. Considering this, a person also has to love what they’re doing every day or else they will never be happy. The combination of all these factors leads a person to live their life to the fullest with prosperity, wealth and pleasure. All of these key components are evident in LMU, thus the reason why I am so passionate about attending the campus and adopting the lifestyle of a lion. In addition to the beautiful campus that allows one to imagine they are on a resort instead of a school as well as the intimate student to faculty ratio that gives students the direct attention they need, LMU has a fantastic undergraduate business program that excites me and will prepare me for my future as a possible entrepreneur or lawyer.
Having chosen the University of Southern California (USC) over the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) as the institution to continue my educational pathway has always brought up curious questions as to why I chose one over the other. Aside from the academic stance of both institutions there were always inevitable comments about how much better the area surrounding UCLA is compared to the sketchy area surrounding USC. Having attended Foshay Learning Center about two miles from USC gave me front insight of how beautiful that area actually is despite the dark allegations. I manage to respond to those stereotype influenced notions with my high school that is actually full of hardworking underprivileged minorities striving for further higher education.
It is without a doubt, attending Rutgers University brings prestige to your name, and distinguishes you from the competition. With over two hundred and fifty years of rich history, Rutgers has been proudly represented by alumni as they continue into their career paths. Dating back to 1766 when Rutgers was first established, notable Rutgers alumni through the years have ranged from politicians such as Elizabeth Warren or Chris Christie to businessmen like David Stern, or even athletes such as Carli Lloyd. It is without a doubt, that Rutgers provides exceptional education as seen through what these alumni have been able to achieve. It is due to the combination of history and high level of education that I believe will help me achieve my career goals.
Before I answer the questions posed, I believe an explanation is owed regarding this request for admission into Saybrook. I originally applied to The Chicago School of Professional Psychology seeking a degree in business psychology. Since the program was not ready to start for another year, it was suggested that I take courses in the international psychology program. I thoroughly enjoyed this new experience with an opportunity to “think global”. I optioned to remain in this program with a concentration in organizations and systems. As I sojourned through, I was always aware that there was still something missing. Although I loved being part of the IP program, my roots are deeply entrenched in the world of organizational development (OD).
Who we are is a concoction of our life journey, relationships, tastes, goals, and countless other things. I am a family girl from Mexico who is a first generation college student. My family is the greatest part of who I am. They would give and do anything for me and vice versa. Life has brought me to the construction science program at Texas A&M and I could not be more excited to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!
According to testimony in the film, the FSM exposed students the “mechanisms of oppression” and their hard-won right to open discussion allowed for a collective understanding of the omnipresence of those mechanisms throughout US society and foreign policy. Validated by the success of the FSM, student interests turned toward the national civil rights struggle and the deepening conflict in Vietnam. UC Berkeley’s location in the Bay Area also allowed for a hybridization of student activism with the burgeoning counterculture in San Francisco and the radical politics of the Black Panther Party in Oakland. The film ends with a rumination on the People’s Park experiment, an attempt to create a material manifestation of countercultural values in a land rights struggle that joined student organizers with the local
After high school, I am going to attend Texas A&M to get an undergraduate degree in public economics and after that I will pursue further education at the Texas A&M Law School. I am going to get a degree in law so that when I graduate I can be a partner in my family's law firm. For the past couple of years I have toyed with the thought of either going to join the marines or being a lawyer but in the end I came to the conclusion that becoming a lawyer was the best bet for me; three generations of my family have done it and I would like to fill their shoes and carry out tradition.
Going to college will be a massive step in my life, even graduating from high school. First off, I plan to major in Accounting and become a Public Certified Accountant. I have been told that it will be hard, just going to class will not cut it. You have to be on top of schoolwork making sure you have it turned in on time and more. I chose K-State University because I could see my future there on campus getting through it all. I thought K-State had the best Business program and so much more. Looking at other colleges wasn’t a bad choice but I couldn’t see myself on their campus as much as I did with K-State. Second, I want to get involved in groups that would be good for me. I do not know all the kinds of groups are on campus but I’m sure I will find out. I hope to start off with
The main reason I see UCF as one of the best colleges for myself is the campus’s distance away from my home. The UCF campus is within driving distance of where I currently live, allowing me to live in the same house while I attend all my classes each day. Reputation has also always been important to me when looking for a college. If a place does not have a good reputation, I do not see much reason to give it a chance. However, UCF is known as one of the biggest colleges in the US and one of the most successful. I also had two friends attend UCF, one for the exact same major as I plan to go for and one that took a very similar major. Both of them have highly recommended UCF for the major I wish to take. Though having this kind of reputation is nice, I was told multiple times to visit the campus myself because not every college is made for everyone. So, I took a tour of UCF on a school sponsored trip and found everything I had heard to be true. The campus was beautiful and the staff were all very kind. After spending the day on the campus I knew this college, after everything I had heard and where it was located, was the one I wanted to
The transition from high school to college is a notoriously daunting experience for students entering, arguably, the most important years in their lives. Everything that a student has come to know about academics, for the most part, are to be radically challenged. Many different factors go into the change, and any particular one can be enough to overwhelm any given student into becoming an emotional wreck. Whether it be living on one's own for the first time, drastic schedule changes, or becoming socially involved, these responsibilities are just three examples, among the seeming hundreds. However, a perfect balance between these responsibilities is a major key in not allowing the stressors to take one captive.
When I think of college I picture a beginning to the rest of my life. I want a school that will teach me how to be successful in both life and my career. A place that I can look back in life and think I made the right choice for me.
In my last two years of high school, I worked part time at Kroger. After one month of working as a cashier, my manager recognized my leadership and quick learning abilities and promoted me to customer service. From there, I took on more responsibilities and received another promotion to manager of all of the front end operations of the store. I also took a course to become a pharmacy technician and interned at a Walgreens pharmacy for a semester.
I have known for a long time that Baylor is where I belong. While I have repeatedly seen the Lord open doors for me to be able to attend my dream school, I never would have expected to receive the opportunity to attend an event like Invitation to Excellence. Not only was the event a chance to improve my financial situation, but it showcased Baylor University’s personality and important aspects of patient care. Invitation to Excellence provided insights into the healthcare profession, interpersonal experiences, friendships, opportunities, and chances to think critically.
My commitment to the various aspects of the Texas A&M honor code is visibly apparent through my endeavors and qualities. My most notable leadership experience is my role as the Upperclassmen Professional Development Officer of the Pre-Medical Honor Society. This position has essentially allowed me to develop the skills necessary to work effectively work in a collaborative environment and offered me the opportunity to showcase my passion for medicine. On a larger level, I am tasked with organizing events that aim to create a sense of community among undergraduates interested in pursuing healthcare careers. On a smaller level, I lead a committee to assist in the planning of larger events. Within this environment, I am able to directly utilize my leadership skills of communicating, motivating, and delegating. Through communication, I am able to effectively recognize the skills of each individual and assign tasks appropriately. In addition, I strive to maintain an atmosphere of motivation through the recognition of individual contributions and highlighting the importance of specific events. Also, I am
Things often don't go as planned in life, but sometimes it's for the better. I never actually planned on attending Iowa State University, but now that I'm signed up to attend, I can't wait to learn more about myself and develop through classes, clubs, and the NROTC program.
