UFT Solidarity is here to provide services and support where others have left a void. We concentrate on UFT members, as we are a caucus within the United Federation of Teachers, but our mission is to bridge all stakeholders in the school community. We are now working on an initiative to help parents opt-out their children from high-stakes test. In an effort to help streamline the growing opt-out movement, we have developed a web app that is accessible from all smartphones' web browser. Before we launch and officially push it out, we wanted to get your thoughts. You can comment below or on our Facebook page facebook.com/uftsolidarity. The site is called OPTTHEMOUT.COM It works by asking for the parent/guardian's name, the student's name, the

Unity is one of the main traits when it comes to teamwork, a team must unite with others in order to seek a way to help one another. Without unity, it could’ve been impossible to communicate with others, the team players in the “Fugees” needed to communicate with each other in order to score a goal. In the text, we learn that “Luma was trying to find a way to get the kids to play together,” she found ways for them to rely on each other. Once the trust created there they would easily become united. It helped the team and it allowed them to score in their

One of the main reasons why teacher unions were created was to provide the teachers with rights, give the teachers better working conditions, and for the students so they could have a better learning environment. “The Federation fought for teachers' rights and improved working conditions, but it also played a prominent role in Chicago progressive reform (Rousmaniere, 2005).” The CTU’s and the Federation’s main purpose when they were created was to reform the rights of teachers and the school quality for the students that attend them. Teachers realized that they needed better conditions for the students when they saw, heard, or had been to private schools. Working together, the teachers set up organized strikes that were not violent and made the Board of Education meet the demands of the teachers. The outcome of the strike was the increase in the pay the teachers received, better environments for the students, and the teacher
TFA aims at bringing equality in the American education system. I want to join TFA because I have the passion for kids. I personally believe that I share a common ambition with TFA, and being a part of TFA family is a major opportunity for career development . This is because I am a person who advocates for equality among kids irrespective of their race, tribe, sex and their religious background. Therefore, joining TFA will create a major opportunity for me to meet my dream of helping kids achieve their goals in life.
The teachers union has been around for many years. The first union was founded in, “1857: The National Education Association (NEA) is founded in Philadelphia by 43 educators” (Mader, 2012). With a local school board in charge of a district’s education, teachers unions can have a greater ability to bargain, educate, and protect their members. School boards are there to help be an in-between for the tax payers and the schools.
Valuable things take time to make their mark on Earth, just like hope does. Hope is not something that will take all pain away but seal your emotions into a more positive light. In “ A Noiseless Patient Spider,” Whitman also used an extended metaphor comparing a spider web to finding yourself in this world. The spider illustrated the confusion like a stumbling block that one may experience to find themselves, he said, “ Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,”. These verbs convey the struggle the human race goes through, but shows patience with the multiple actions the spider took. This is a valuable lesson of patience and how to never give up on hope. Parallelism is used in this poem just as it was in

Over the years unions have provided many benefits to union workers through collective bargaining. One of the biggest union forces in the United States is the teachers union. With almost close to 5 million members nationwide, the teachers union is one of the most powerful unions. Through collective bargaining, problems have been created for the public school system which takes place at local school districts; rules have been imposed to create ineffective forms of organization at schools. The rules that are currently in place by collective bargaining are also creating a big disconnection with many public schools, that being the interest of the children. The teachers union is one main role
Teacher Unions have evolved over time and have been essential in education equality and reform. Some now question the motivation behind these unions and whether or not they are now a barrier to reform, rather than a assistant. This paper will explore the evolvement of not only Teacher Unions, but the purpose and motivation behind said unions. Two of the most predominately known unions are American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association, NEA.
