I have always been a go-getter. Likewise, I’ve always been a visionary individual, if not a bit of a dreamer. Ever since I was little, I was fascinated by so much—books, movies, and the simple mysteries of the world—and wanted to be active in all of them. Similarly, during high school, I have worked my hardest and strived to learn and become the best I could be. If I was interested in something, whether it be in the arts or education or just something that sparked my curiosity, I would jump fully into it and try to learn more about it. I feel that with UK Blue, I can continue that mentality in college. With UK Blue, I can immerse myself into the world of law much faster than if I pursue a normal degree. Being involved in law classes as early
Alan Brito is a friend of mine from childhood. When we were young, he and I, along with a bunch of other kids from my neighborhood, used to play tops, marbles and “twenty-one”. We had a top contest in which those who could spin the top in the air with the string, pull it back and place it on top of the palm of their hand, was the winner. At the risk of sounding pretentious, I was almost always the winner. For that reason, they nicknamed me “Toppy”. Two of my other friends, Gilly and Billy were rivals. They were very good at playing “twenty-one.” They were unbeatable. Every time we played together they beat me. I was always afraid of playing against them, because I was quite sure that by the end of the game, I would be left with no money in my pockets. In time, Gilly and Billy got married and left the country. They moved to Saint Maurice, a small paradisiac island in the Pacific Ocean.
As we got to the Veterans hospital, I got out of the car and felt a cold wind blow. The fact that we just passed Penhurst creeped me out. My christmas I should be spending this at my house with my family this isn't going to be fun at all I tried begging nothing wok this isn't going to be fun at all.
Now, fast forward to a few days earlier. We’re in India, but zoom into my bijou shop in Khurja.
When the two men went to the same car dealership to see who would be helped in a decent manner, the salesman of the same racial descent as the African American tester, Glenn, was completely ignored. The white American tester, John, got help within the first few seconds of browsing from the same African American salesman that ignored Glenn (Harvey 1991). I was also surprised that Glenn was assumed to be attempting to commit a crime when browsing the record store, despite no obvious suspicious acts (Harvey 1991). Even when the two show the same need for assistance inside a store or in a parking lot, Glen was always ignored. Even the prices of items John asked about almost doubled when Glenn asked. Furthermore, when interviewed for job positions Glenn got lectured upon laziness, being late, and drug abuse, despite the preference on race over a criminal background (Pager 2007). Lastly, I was surprised they didn’t see who would be more likely to get help or hired in an inner city.
When I was 14 years old, I found myself in a bit of trouble. Acting out, being disrespectful, starting fights, dropping out of school, fighting with my mom, running away, etc. I ended up getting in trouble with the law, and became a warden of the state of Oregon. Placed in Donald E. Long (juvenile corrections facility), B.G.A.S. (Boys and Girls Aid Society), as well as Pettygrove (home for troubled girls).
With having to wait to attend college, I had more time to process what I truly wanted to get from life and my education. While literature is still my true love in academics I now know that I want to parlay that into a law degree once I graduate with my bachelors in English. The George Washington University is one of the finest stages for both degrees. I do not only want to soak in as much as possible when it comes to interpreting anything from Chaucer to Twain, but I also want to ensure that I am correctly equipped for law school. In complete honesty, the only aspect I am not entirely certain of at this point is what type of law I want to be involved with. I am battling between my reverence of education and my heart for the
Johnna Brown. The lovely mother of two, and the amazing wife any man would dream of, the best pet spoiler there is, and the perfect friend. That right there can say so much about someone without even knowing who they are. Johnna, my mother, is such a talented person. Along with this, she is also a mentor and therapist. Last, she devotes her every waking seconds to the ones she loves.
A bouquet to Blue Heron Books. I was gift shopping and I found myself gazing, stumped, at shelves of shiny new books. I would’ve left empty handed if not for the friendly service I received. I approached the clerk and asked for help. After a brief description of what I wanted she recommended several books. They were all relevant and I was happy with my purchase. The recipient liked the gift and I can’t imagine what else I could have gotten. I hope the clerk knows I appreciate her individual attention and genuine suggestions. She didn’t pressure me to buy books but rather helped me to find the right gift. This unaggressive manner creates a cozy atmosphere perfect for a local bookstore. If you want to support a small business I highly recommend
Eighty hours in one week. A goal which all of my peers insisted I was crazy for even attempting. To the normal working class forty hours is a long week, yet I wanted to double that in only seven days. Working in a muffler shop is hard work, which made eighty hours Mount Everest, and I was determined to reach the summit.
When I get ready for baseball, I do it slowly so I won't overlook or forget anything . First, I find my navy blue jersey with a big bright red "A" on the chest area. Then, I put my sliding shorts that's padded all inside on so it won't hurt when I slide. I grab my long white baseball pants that look like sweatpants, put them on to protect my legs, and zip them up. It's a different type of material that feels soft . Next, I put my rose red belt on and tuck my shirt in. After that, I place my navy blue cap on top of my head, grab my white Oakley's with a reddish orangish lens and set it on the bill of my hat. I go find my lucky gold chains, put them around my neck and slap my wrist bands on. I make sure I've packed all my equipment, for example
My family and my uncle's family has attended Six Flags together for the past 8 years. This year was going to be different for everyone and especially me.
When I think about my red house, a free and easy feeling rushes over. Worries consisted of macaroni being too hot, swinging too high, and Dora, my first dog, pooping in my room. With bookshelves filled with stuffed animals and countless Pooh Bear toys, I was always content. The playground in my backyard provided days of fun, and nights in my mom and dad’s bed gave me peaceful and comforting sleep, preparing me for the next day of work. The kitchen was where I liked to claim I “worked”. Although I didn’t do a lot of the actual cooking, I liked to be there while my mom was. A love for cooking and baking developed at a young age, around the same time I realized I wanted to be just like my mom. The song “Best Day” by Taylor Swift perfectly describes
I was born and raised in the small but growing city of Perris, CA. This isn’t the best city out there but it tends to grow on you, and you begin to truly love it for what it is. The people, however, not so much. The community can vary from which part of the city you’re in. That’s because there’s diversity here in Perris. I’m a product of this diversity, being half Mexican and half African American. My parents fell in love after high school and later on began a family. I am the youngest of five. I have two older brothers, an older sister, and an older cousin who lives with us. The order is boy, girl, boy, boy, girl with my cousin being included in there too. We all live in the same house with my parents and are quite close with each other. They all seem to have raised me growing up due to the fact that my parents were busy trying to provide for us. This was a challenge by itself, resulting in lots of house moving and my father being unemployed for six years after losing his job. I never complained about moving because I knew that my parents were doing their absolute best and were working with all that they had and then some. This unquestionably made me adaptable to new environments and gave me a
After a lot of consideration, I decided I did not want to pursue a career in law, but I feel that a liberal arts college will allow me to continue to learn and grow in topics pertaining to law, without it being my major. This is very important to me, as I do not want to only learn about one area of knowledge; I want to continue to find and learn more about many different topics. These different topics will help me to become a well rounded individual, which will help me as a teacher. I will be able to provide students with a wide range of knowledge from many different topics, not just what is provided in a standard teaching curriculum. The liberal arts education will make me more competitive as it will better equip me to become a teacher. I feel it is necessary not to be limited in what you learn so you do not feel suppressed but rather constantly engaged and excited to learn more. Georgia Colleges liberal arts environment will allow me to continue to learn about law, as well as properly preparing me for a career as a
There are so many people that are special in my life but some one that stands out like the one bright star in the midnight sky is my cousin, Caeley. There are many people I would write about but since Caeley and I are the same age and create this special bond that brings us so close together.
