Over the last 10 years, the population of the United States has changed dramatically. With the massive amounts of innovation and development in the world, the life of the average US citizen has changed dramatically. The trends of the different races in our country along with the change in age distribution, the locations of where individuals live today, and the predictions of the American future with regards to these trends all lead us to believe that the future for the United States is extremely bright.
The change in age distribution of the US to a younger country with more youth and a bigger working middle class. This has increased the US economy substantially by giving the US more people working and paying taxes on their income, while all
When most people are taught about U.S. history, we think of mostly the bad times like the wars, the civil rights movements, President Kennedy’s and M. L. King Jr’s associations, just to name a few. In this paper I will discuss those and more going into the start of the 21st century. The previous five decades consisting of the 1950s into the millennium happened during the U.S. History equally turbulent, but exciting. There also were numerous transformations within social, governmental, plus technological sections, but the WWII era currently seems rather prehistoric. Since the 1950s America has experienced major cultural transformations, starting with four main
During the American Economy many changes occurred dramatically. The U.S. become a dominant manufacturing country in the world. They revolutionize from a rural agricultural society to an urban industrial. Various of critical trends and developments characterized this fierce period. The major changes that occurred during these times mostly had to do with the Civil War and New Deal.
Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, & Mather (2011) stated, “Since women live longer than men in the United States, women will continue to make up a majority of the older population in the foreseeable future” (pg. 3). Whereas, this age distribution among men and women are expected to remain approximately the same between 2009 and 2030, there will be notable changes in the age and gender gap by 2050 as the gap grows smaller (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, & Mather, 2011). Furthermore, according to Vincent & Velkoff (2010), by the year 2042 the United States will become more racially and ethnically diverse with the combined minority population expected to become the majority. Thus, as people in the United States age over the next several decades, the older population will also become a more racially and ethnically diverse group. In addition, the overall age structure of the population is expected to change a great deal over the next four decades (Vincent & Velkoff, 2010). This will pose even more challenges to policy makers and programs designed to help the elderly like Medicare and Social Security. Therefore, being able to project the size and structure of the older population, in regards to age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin is not only important to public interest, but also private both socially and economically (Vincent & Velkoff, 2010).
It is 2014 and since the beginning of the millennium there has been a major shift in America’s political ideology and demographics, more so than in any set period of time. America which has historically been very conservative, has started to become more liberally made evident by the results of the last two elections. Although America’s government is based on a less centralized system and free market, Americans have seemed to start embracing things like big government and a stricter market. Americans are also starting to think different on social issues such as homosexuality and drug usage. America has also experienced a change in its demographics as minorities like Asians and Hispanics continue to grow while whites are, percentage wise, starting to make up a smaller part of Americas population. Along with a shift in ideology and change in demographics, technology and communication has advanced greatly making the world a much more connected place. Because of this connectivity people are also beginning to be influenced by foreign ideas that are not familiar to most Americans such as universal healthcare. Overall, because of factors such as foreign influences due to technology and changing demographics, America has become less conservative and more liberal.
Within the past 30 plus years, there have been three main things that either have or still currently impact our society and generation in America as a whole; Modern Day Immigration, the concept of “Reaganomics”, and the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11th, 2001 (also known as 9/11). For a variety of reasons, these things have turned into either political, economic, or societal issues (or often times a combination of the three). Over the years, these things have helped shape society into what we know and see it as today, for better or worse.
Due to all the immigration from countries all over the world, America has become a place of diversity among many races and religions. Although, this diversity came with prejudice that has gotten better since the late 20th century, it is still alive today. America became a place for, as Maya Angelou would say, “The Tree, River, and Rock” or peace, security, wisdom, humanity, and freedom to all people regardless of their background. Because of this, the early 21st century has brought many new opportunities for people of all cultural backgrounds.
Just like other parts of the world, the United States is no exceptional, it is an aging society. Between the year 2000 and the year 2050, the number of the elderly is predicted to increase by 135%. Again, the population of the persons aged 85 years and above, which is the group that will mostly require health and long-term services, is predicted to
It is no astonishingly to observe that the American population has increased enormously in the last fifteen years. Nevertheless, the massive population growth has occurred due to the arrival of immigrants at a large scale. The Pew Hispanic Center published that from 2005 to 2015, immigrants and their offspring born in the America contributed 45 percent to its total population growth. Within this group of immigrants, Latino immigrants constituted more than 52 percent of total American population. Furthermore, East Asian and Latinos immigrants and their children represented a 25 percent increase in the American population due to immigration. This data shows that the population of the United States continues to grow due to the inflow of immigrants from other economies. Besides increasing the population, these immigrants have impacted the U.S. politically, socially and culturally.
According to the US Census Bureau, as of July 1, 2015 the estimated population of the United States was 321.4 million. Of this number, the percentage of people who identified as Black or African American alone was 13.2 percent. There were no estimates for people who identified as Black or African American in combination with one or more additional races. (Population). According to the 2010 U.S. Census, on April 1, 2010 the U.S. population was 308.7 million and out of that number, 13 percent or 38.9 million people identified as Black or African American alone and one percent or 3.1 million people identified as Black or African American in combination with one or more additional races. These two groups combined total 42.0 million, or 14 percent
There are many reasons that cause this big shift in the United State economy. One reason was the improvement in transportation. Since the country ran under one central government, they help create better roads and canals which help in the transportation. Another reason that enable this change was innovation or new technology. For example, the invention of railroad and creation of steam machines increase the effectiveness of transportation and decrease the time it takes to deliver goods (lecture). Another important invention at this time were the cotton engine. This engine increased the production of cotton of America significantly (Slavery, The Making of America). This started from organizing the workers and therefore caused the creation of
Beginning in the 1870s, the United States entered what is now known as “The Gilded Age.” The United States was just coming out of a horrific civil war, and the country as a whole began to revolutionize the way industry, economy, and business as a whole were defined. This improvement in industry, economy and business is known as the second industrial revolution. There are many reasons why the United States economy began to grow. First, the number of factories dramatically increased. Leading up to and during the war, the Union built an incredible amount of factories in order to build supplies for the war. After the war, these factories were converted for industrial purposes, creating more building capacity for virtually every industry . Government intervention was a second reason for economic growth in the second industrial revolution. The government promoted development in both industrial and
As a young adult in 2017, I wonder how the United States will advance in the next twenty years, fifty years, or when I leave the Earth two hundred years from now. America has developed tremendously in the last century. For instance, numerous diseases and infections have been eradicated. There are nearly three hundred twenty-five million people in the United States today with nearly eighty-five percent of Americans having access to the internet. However, with these advancements, my generation will have deal with America’s dilemma of the distribution of wealth in this country.
The United States is the third most populated country in the world. This country holds about 4.5% of the world’s population. The U.S. population is currently estimated to have 308.7 million persons. This number is more than double of the population from 1950. Besides the fact of the population has doubled its size, the population has also become qualitatively different from the one from 1950. As noted by the Population Reference Bureau, “The U.S. is getting bigger, older, and more diverse.” The growth of the population is the result of the trends over time in the relationship of increased births, decreased deaths, and increased net immigration.
Although immigration helps a country develop through diversity, it can also be a problem because its increasing rate can overwhelm a country’s social and economic resources. Therefore, we must enforce immigration laws to slow down the immigration rate.
Over the years, there have been major shifts within the United States in regards to its population. Statisticians have estimated that 20% of the population will be 65 years of age and older. There is an even
