I have dreamed about being a part of the Trojan family for a long time. I have heard that support from USC alumni is unrivaled in its strength and quality. I grew up just outside of Los Angeles county and from a young age, I viewed USC as LA's greatest school. I saw the school as a source of pride for the people of Southern California. In high school when I was applying for college, I discovered more about the high quality programs that USC offers and I imagined myself in cardinal and gold. After much consideration, I turned down my offer to attend USC for undergrad and began my journey at UCI. Now I have a second chance and I feel that it is finally time to realize my childhood dream. Southern California is my home and the place I want to
Not every school. Also, a lot of those comments or statement were just opinions. Not valid facts.
I am a dedicated, caring individual committed to improving the world around me. My dedication to achieving goals, be it academic or in extracurricular activities, has shown time and time again that I will not give up until I meet the goal, even in the face of adversity. I believe that commitment to goals is a valuable quality I could use to contribute to the community. I plan to join clubs that UCF offer students to work with and contribute to the UCF community. I believe working with my fellow peers to be an important and enriching aspect of college life. I am always willing to help someone in need or point them in the
As a child growing up in San Diego, my youth has been nothing short of any teenager’s wildest dreams of living near the beach, having bonfires, and surfing on the weekends. Although this lifestyle is desired by many, I’ve always wanted something more out of what I do with my time. I want to go to Spring Hill College to become a humble professional in an industry, serve the most people, and learn about the world around me. My life was struggling for direction until I became active in the sport of volleyball and my religion flourished in the Catholic Church. These structures consume the majority of my service as I feel everyone deserves these opportunities for happiness and acceptance.
Our most recent addition to the HSF Alumni Hall of Fame, Luis Sanchez, is truly an amazing success story. Who would have known that a child from a low-income household would grow up to be a successful Electrical Engineer and completely change his life around? In his recent induction interview, he mentions that thanks to the help he received from the HSF scholarship, he was able to become the first generation in his family to attend university and earn a Bachelor's Degree. He later pursued his Master's Degree.
In the late 1980’s, Ray Buckley along with his mother, sister, and teachers of the McMartin preschool faced 321 charges of child abuse additionally there were allegations of the group performing satanic rituals and traveling in secret underground tunnels. Many children from the preschool were accusing several people of performing bizarre acts much like the witch hunts that occurred in Salem, Massachusetts, such hysteria brought fear amongst many. The Crucible a play composed by American author, Arthur Miller wrote this play about the town Salem that fell into mass hysteria after a group of girls Abigail Williams, Betty Parris, Ruth Putnam, Tituba and Mary Warren accused townspeople of witchcraft. Many may argue that the root and cause of the witch hunts were caused by the girls in the forest looking for revenge or trying to benefit from the accusations however the cause was fear amongst the characters this is demonstrated by Elizabeth Proctor, Mary Warren, and Abigail Williams.
In the novel Enrique’s Journey I feel Enrique is a perpetrator of crime. He unlawfully enters the US in the hope of finding his mother. Yes, it is a heartbreaking story, but that still does not excuse the fact that he broke the law. There are some dangers when attempting to illegally enter the US such as death and diseases. Death is a concern for the person trying to enter the US; they can be killed along the way by countless different ways, such as: Starvation, dehydration, burns, falling off of trains, freezing, and murder. They also can bring diseases into the United States that can kill many. When Unaccompanied Alien Children are apprehended Border Patrol and other guards are forced to watch and care for them. Some children may have diseases and a guard may catch it. Many undocumented people lack basic vaccinations. This is not only affecting the person who is travelling, but others around them too.
In conclusion, I hope to join the USC academic family someday soon. My career has prepared me sufficiently to undertake the challenges required to succeed at the next level of education. USC has been extremely beneficial to my professional career, with offering
During my career at SUNY Orange, I have grown by leaps and bounds. I have mastered my short comings, earned a 3.5 GPA, made the Dean’s list three semesters and running, earned the Peter Albergani Inspirational Scholarship, and I was selected to attend the Exploring Transfer Program at Vassar College. SUNY Orange has opened many doors for me, doors I did not even know existed. I was not sure that I wanted to attempt to get my Bachelor’s degree, seeing as just getting my Associates degree was more than I ever imagined I would accomplish. That all changed when I was given the opportunity to experience what it would be like to attempt learning at a four year institution.
To start with, location is the first difference between UCI and USC. According to the UCI Graduate Division, “Located 40 miles south of Los Angeles and 90 miles north of San Diego, UC Irvine is minutes from the ocean and borders the majestic beach cities of Laguna and Newport Beach. The mountain resorts of Big Bear and Mountain High are just a short drive away” (UCI Graduate Division). UCI is located in the perfect location for students who love outdoor activities. With minutes away from the beach and short drive away from mountains, students can enjoy lots of fun activities such as hiking, jogging, biking, and swimming. On the other hand, according to USC Website, “USC’s two primary campuses, both located in the heart of Los Angeles, welcome thousands of guests and visitors each year” (USC). Located in the center of Los Angeles, USC is a perfect school for students who like to live in the city with lots of building and lots of people
Growing up in Redding Connecticut I attended Joel Barlow High School. This was a great experience for me because of my small town’s great sense of community. I participated in many activities during my time at Joel Barlow, the most prominent being sports. Being a part of a team really taught me to be collaborative, supportive of my teammates and also gave me the opportunity to form great and trusting relationships. So, of course when it came time to begin my college searching process, choosing one out of the hundreds of colleges and universities that would provide those same principles became quite overwhelming. And while many of my friends had already determined where they were going to spend the next 4 years, I felt very unsure of my future. As more time went by I realized I needed to focus in on
Ferocity, pandemonium, and adaptation, is something Buck experienced in his crazy life. In the short story Call of the wild, Jack London shows how Buck had to learn many new things to make living; his objective. Through Buck’s past experiences, London
There is no knowing what my legacy at UC Irvine may be, but I will describe what my goal is for the next four years. Of course it includes doing well in all my classes, however I would like to accomplish more than that and at a deeper level. I would like to work with other students to make our community become more united than it already is. Fitting in is one thing, but making others feel welcomed is much more important. College is a place where connections and ties are established and everyone should be able to do so. It would be of great pleasure to join groups where as a collective we help not only each other, but also the community around us. The legacy I want to create is not for me but rather for the notion of an interconnected and involved
Monday, August 20th of 2018 will be the first day of my college career at Florida Gulf Coast University! Not only does Florida Gulf Coast have my major but the campus is right next to the Gulf of Mexico which is great for a want to be marine biologist. The best part is that Fort Meyers is a small city but it's also close to Floridas best beaches and attractions. I can't wait to start my education at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Very few studies focus on the limited engagement of Black alumni who graduate from PWIs. Even fewer offer suggestions as to how to increase this engagement. Black alumni are more likely to be engaged with the university when they have had positive undergraduate experiences (Gaier, 2005). These positive experiences are due to the relationships that were developed while they were students on campus. Newman and Petrosko (2011) describe it as a positive emotional attachment, which generates alumni loyalty.
Then, out of nowhere, Azusa Pacific University, a small D2 school calls me and tells me they are very interested in me and want me to visit. After telling my uncle of the news, he immediately picked me up from school and drove me out to California, where I would have my first official visit to a university. To most, this was nothing, but to me it was the world. I loved the campus, the people, and the school. Although they were not going to offer me a scholarship, I felt confident that this is where I wanted to go. I applied, got accepted, and planned to begin attending school the following fall.
