In a dystopian timeline the UT Vols have had two consecutive no win seasons and the town of Knoxville, TN is completely abandoned. Over time the city begins to feel the effect of weather, decay, and bioturbation. It isn’t until 500 years after evacuation that archaeologists return to the city to study the lives of the people who once lived there. During an excavation these professionals find two plastic bins filled with artifacts. Their goal now is to understand what the purpose and function of these artifacts are and what they can tell about the people who owned them. However, due to the nature of time passing, changes have occured in these items and others have been completely removed from the archaeological record. These occurrences will
After the first battle in "The Red Badge of Courage", we see how many of the soldiers feel courageous and confident in their fighting abilities. However, this spirit doesn't last long, as the following battle in chapter 6 shakes up their regiment, eventually separating most of the soldiers in the confusion. In the above excerpt, we see how Henry is scared and confused in the face of this persistent enemy. It is hard for him to make out the battle in front of him, which causes further panic and confusion among the regiment. After all, it is scary enough to fight an enemy seen – even scarier to fight an enemy that is invisible. Adding to the confusion of this battle, many of the men in Henry's regiment, including Henry, let their fear overwhelm them, and flee from the battleground.
This website Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB) is an online web-teaching source for recycling. The KTnB’s goal is to encourage “Tennesseans to be more responsible for improving their community environment.” This website offers information to anyone interested in recycling and gardening with compost. There are benefits of recycling, such as bringing new life onto something old. As students of Columbia State Community College, we must be willing to fight for a cleaner healthier campus. We can set an example for the community by recycling. Students can make a website prompting our community garden and recycling center for information on what can and cannot be recycled, and how

In examining the article “Around the Mall and Beyond”, by Michael Kernan, the author seems to make an argument illustrating the existence of artifacts, practically everywhere. In this article, I concur with his position that there are likely artifacts and remains wherever one might go. This is because we are not the first inhabitants of this land, as such, remains of humans, animals, tools etc. could likely be found in any area if searched for in-depth enough. The author makes a specific reference to the National Historic Preservation Act, which I particularly agree with. The author goes on to use several instances in history where history were discovered on sites which were being considered for or in the process of being converted into
Modern scientific methods and testing have made it possible for both historians and archaeologists and also
Nestled in the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg has become an area that East Tennessee State University students go to visit. Gatlinburg offers something for many; however, the city has some growing pains such as traffic and limited space. Thus, the city of Gatlinburg offers many things that a traveler could need and want, provided that he or she is willing to overlook the city’s rapid growth.
The following report details the archaeological fieldwork conducted by New South Associates, Inc. for proposed widening and improvements along U.S. 158 in Forsyth and Guilford counties, North Carolina. The purpose of the survey was to identify and evaluate archaeological sites for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), within the proposed project area of potential effects (APE). This project was conducted for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) (TIP R-2577ABC, State Project No. 37405). This is a state-funded project covered under a United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) individual permit. As such, the USACE serves as the lead federal agency and the work complies with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), as amended.
It is the year 2325 my team of prominent archaeologist, and I was summoned to dig up a site that our colleagues have found. My team and I will unearth this hidden object time capsule. As my staff and I prepare to locate the time capsule, we are nervous about what we may unearth. As my team, I open the time capsule we find five items in the capsule which are President Kennedy’s Election, Voting Rights, Peace Sign, The Pill and Sesame Street. The 1960’s time era was an important part of history that remains relevant in 2325. Unearth this period is necessary so they we may teach generations to come about the 1960’s time era.
So many people see history as something dry and lifeless but in reality it is a study that is full of life. There is no better way to see this than through the lens of archaeological artifacts. The people of the past are intrinsically a part of these objects. They were shaped by human hands; some were used in everyday life while others only meant to be appreciated as art. In any case, they show the vitality of history which can sometimes be obscured by the centuries. I want to work with a collection that deals with archaeological artifacts, and ideally I would like to work with objects of Greek or Roman origins. One day I would like the opportunity to create an exhibit where the viewer can see how the objects relate to a whole as well as their own individual characteristics. I want others to have the same sort of experience I had while walking through the Byzantine and Christian Museum; I want them to have a moment of connection to the past and see how alive history can be. I am especially interested in the courses that the Museology program offers which teach the proper methods to curate archaeological collections. The experience of working with the objects in the Burke Museum will benefit my goal of curating a
What I have found surprising about my professional experience so far is how much I have come to enjoy conducting oral histories and working in an archival setting. While volunteering with the Los Alamos Historical Society, my mentor has given me the primary task of helping them complete their oral history project, which has been an ongoing project for the society for nearly a year and a half. The oral history project has provided me with a new perspective of the past. The other task that my mentor has given me is to help the historical society to catalog their archive’s artifacts. I was surprised while cataloging the archive’s artifacts the amount of photographs, videos, and many other historical objects that the historical society possesses. While the projects that my mentor has instructed me to work on while volunteering with the historical society has surprised me in several ways, I
In 1929AD, a Syrian farmer struggling to clear off a 65- foot high mound of dirt from his field removed a large stone revealing a hole in the ground. Afterwards archaeologists were called in and found under the mound of dirt five different levels of artifacts, dating to 1300BC. At the beginning of the excavation looters took many of the tablets to be sold on the black market. Eventually antique collectors working for the financial supporters of the archaeologist bought and returned the majority of the stolen tablets.

Carter’s methodology for the excavation was that of maintaining records for each artefact and that every artefact that was brought out of the tomb was preserved appropriately. Carter methodology involved the referencing of every item found, where it was found in the tomb, preservation of the item and its conservation. Photographs were also taken of the artefacts
Dystopian societies are themes often used in writing. A dystopian society is the imbalance of power between certain citizens and the government exerting total control over those people. One such example is Hitler and his Nazi regime. If one were to analyze the data, one could examine decisions Adolf Hitler made in creating the dystopian society of Nazi Germany, and the impact those decisions had on the citizens at the time; additionally, a review of how authors use dystopian-themed stories as a means to educate readers about dystopia will be addressed.
