The Rainbow Six series has been the hallmark of tactical shooters, planting players in the shoes of counter-terrorist operatives using weapons and tactics inspired from Tom Clancy's titular novel. The series could be considered the anti-Call Of Duty due to its focus on teamwork and utilizing the games advanced weaponry and gadgetry. Siege mixes in the teamwork mechanics of Counter-Strike along with the familiar gameplay formulas of today's shooters into a unique package not found in any other shooter available this generation.
Tom Bissell, in his essay, “Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter” has described video games and how they are unique and different from movies, books, or even interactive films. Bissell says “I came to accept that games were incompetent with almost every aspect of what I would call traditional narrative.” This is showing the readers that even though there is a plot and story line, as characters can control and alter the story line or outcome by what you do or see throughout the game.
Repelling down from a hovering Black Hawk helicopter, running through the streets in a foreign city, bullets hissing past your ears, bombs are exploding all around you, debris flying in all directions, and you have a job to do. In Black Hawk Down, director Ridley Scott mixes a wide variety of camera movement, camera angles, film speed, tone, and music to throw the audience into the thick of the fighting in Mogadishu, Somalia. Scott places the viewer into the boots of Delta Force members, ARMY Rangers, and many other military positions allowing you to experience the nightmare these soldiers are going through. William Arnold stated "Black Hawk Down is a terrific trip' movie that like Private Ryan plops us right in the
Three men bust out of a bank, shooting their way into the snowy abyss of North Yankton, and while escaping in their Rancher XL, the driver dies. Then one of the men takes control and tries to get them away from the cops. Two of the men get shot and the third guy runs away into the blizzard. From here the player takes off on the busy streets of Los Angeles and the video game continues. The amazing views pass the driver by as he is speeding through the illuminating streets of downtown LA. The crowds on the street, the clouds in the sky, and the skyscrapers look so real and lifelike. By creating this intrigue it immerses the player directly into the gaming experience. The best video games have similar qualities such as; explorative open worlds,

The game I have chosen for my critical analysis is Red Dead Redemption. Red Dead Redemption was made, published, and engineered by a company called Rockstar Games (Rockstar Website). The major distributor of the game is a company who happens to own Rockstar, Take-Two interactive. Being one of the most successful video game developers to date, Rockstar is famous for creating the popular and controversial game series Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar differs very much from other video game developers because they are one of few who have grown and experienced the advancement of video games in
This shows the wide verity of this game which adds more to the reason why this game is magnificent. You might ask how this information applies to his thesis: “Why video games matter?” All of this information provides logical facts that interest gamers around the world. The game provides a traditional narrative that allows for an experience framed in terms of wandering and lonesomeness, a purpose that is needed.
First off, I love Mathias Clasen’s paper, about people becoming reanimated corpses or zombies. I would not know what I would do if my Mom become an undead monster, or worse, what if my father, who passed away six years ago, came back from the grave. Could I bring myself to kill them, (well kill my dad again because he already dead) or tie them up, lock them in my basement and just go to see them, like the movie, Shaun of the Dead. The dynamic questions come into that what are monsters within and without. Clasen talks about zombies being “dull creatures” and having one life goal, “to eat fresh and brains” (3) compared to vampires or werewolves, who retain their intelligence. Compared this cultures and looking from the outside on taboo monsters that are alive monsters (aliens, killer sharks, or killer humans), the undead breaks the code of
Blood Red Road by Moira Young is a stellar book! I absolutely enjoyed reading it and I discovered that it is a series and devastatingly enough I am officially hooked. Blood Red Road is captivating, full of anticipation, and relatable. It is about an 18 year old girl named Saba, who tries to rescue her twin brother Lugh.
What is the most frightening thing in this world? It is the responsibility that is bestowed upon someone. This type of fear (responsibility) can hinder the ability to think, act, and speak for oneself. It incapacitates the individual in any scenario ranging from speaking at a conference to hmm -- a zombie apocalypse.
Focusing on the how of violence, is an article in which the author talks about what makes the violence in one game more meaningful than the other. He brings up two different most talked-about action games, BioShock Infinite and the Last of us and compares them both. Bioshock infinite tells stories of a man and young woman fighting through dangerous territory, killing dozens of nameless bad guys, while The Last of Us, tells a story about post-apocalyptic zombie survival game, which was more grisly and direct compare to Bioshock. He wonders why the violence of Bioshock Infinite made him feel gratuitous and not transformative or powerful. He felt that Bioshock infinite was more of an anonymous shooting that made it difficult for him to about anything

The game seeks to trick us for a time into abandoning what is real (home) and focus on what is inside our monitors and T.V.s. Baudrillard spoke on the process of a simulated reality in a multi-step process. “In the first case, the image is a good appearance – representation is of the sacramental order.” This can be related to the early days of video games when they used cathode ray tubes to project pixelated images onto a curved glass scene. Video games where very new, and exciting. “In the second, it is an evil appearance – it is of the order of maleficence. This can be related to games starting about 15 years ago till today. Video games were and still are thought to be a source of violence in people. Many view them as a waste of time and that they detriment a person. Though this mentality is starting to fade as we shift towards the third order “In the third, it plays at being an appearance – it is of the order of sorcery”. Technology is starting to advance to the point that anyone without training in the field cannot understand what is going on. As myths about video games negative appearance are being debunked or confirmed their negative aspects are getting swallowed up by the more exciting advancements in the fields. “In the fourth, it is no longer of the order of appearances but of simulation.” At this level the video game stops being a game, and starts to become a part of everyday life (home). For as much as some may dedicate their whole lives to games, in the

New details about Dishonored 2 have been revealed thanks to a developer diary video that Bethesda released. Harvey Smith, the games’ creative director was featured in the video and therefore shared insight on the aged Corvo we observed in this game. “We just had to be Corvo again because we’re so nostalgic about the character.” Smith goes on to say, “First of all, we really wanted to see what Corvo felt like with a voice. In Dishonored 2, it’s 15 years after the Rat Plague and Corvo’s wondering how long can I protect my daughter. He’s seen a lot and is still facing these crazy threats to the throne and to the empire.”
