"The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare and the movie "Rudy" directed by David Anspaugh share the theme of individual desired versus society's norms. This narrative will explain what the two have in common, and why the theme is still around today. "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" has the theme of individual desires versus society's norms. Romeo and Juliet do not have a big wedding celebration, although they come from wealthy families. This is breaking society's norm of wealthy family's having a big wedding ceremony, versus Romeo and Juliet having a very small one.
To begin, character can be understood as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Warren Buffet was quoted saying, “there are three main qualities involved in leadership: integrity, intelligence, and energy; without the first, the other two will kill you,” (Warren Buffet). In reference to Ernest Shackleton, the mariner was known by his crew to be optimistic, generous, and fair. At the beginning of their expedition, however, these qualities were subdued by Shackleton’s hubris. It should be noted that, “no mariner distinguished themselves on a smooth sea,” (The Endurance Movie). With that in mind, it was not
Nate Brodie has a dream to meet Tom Brady and to win a million dollars. The only way he can accomplish this goal is with hard work and determination. So he starts by practicing everyday, all day he throws a football through a tire. He does this to work on his accuracy and so he knows he can do it. He also practices by being on the high school football team. There is so much on the line for him at the time. His parents are in financial trouble and his best friend is going to go blind if they don't get a surgery soon.
Character is defined as one’s moral qualities. I have very high expectations for my character, and I hold myself to them. Every time a person isn't the nicest to me or someone else, I remind myself not to stoop to their level. I tell myself, “Treat others how you would want to be treated.” I will always treat myself and everyone around me with respect, courtesy, and kindness.
The movie plot surrounded the main character of Coach Boone, an African American football coach who transferred to a new school district that has just been desegregated. Coach Boone is a leader, not only as the head of a football team but an influence of positive change. He uses his legitimate power when first approaching his new team, then uses referent and reward power as team cohesion increases. He defined the team and set difficult goals with clear performance expectations when he tells the players he expects perfection. He accomplishes this perfection through leading and influencing others, like the team captains and his assistant coach. When Coach Boone first met his players he announced that no one would be cut from the team. He allowed his captains to decide who the undesirable members were and for them to decide to cut the players themselves. Coach Boone was also quick to identify his key stakeholders, the players. This allowed him to focus his efforts on the team atmosphere and organizational commitment and not on his new position.
Throughout the movie “Undefeated” there was a constant portrayal of the two different atmospheres that existed between the white teachers and coaches to those of their students living in poverty and rundown neighborhoods. It is these unrecognized gaps between those who have power and wealth to those who don’t that can create such conflict. O.C. even at one point in the movie moved into the house of one of his High School teachers and upon his arrival he described how different the experience was of seeing people running in the neighborhood and how these were activities that did not occur in his neighborhood. Almost all of the athletes that talked in the movie depicted how they loved playing football to take their minds off of the stresses of
In order to live up to the reputation of the town and peers, the Permian Panthers and the coaches set goals so that they will have a winning season. The goal that is set is to win the state championship and nothing, including injury will change that goal. This occurs when Boobie Miles, the star running back, chooses to play in spite of a torn ALC, rather than yielding to the unimaginable pain that he is in. The team imposed a structure, which establishes the goals and values of the team, therefore reinforcing the team’s solidarity to winning the championship not only for them but for the town.
It is the first round of the Basketball State playoffs, and with eight seconds left, the talented Northwest team is down by three. The star point guard speed dribbles up the court, the tension on and off the court is immense, the pressure is even greater. Everyone during and prior to this game, had witnessed a season full of promise, and the consensus conclusion for most recognized this team as the best team to have ever come out Northwest High School. This was our best and likely only chance for success. So as the point guard puts the ball up, time nearly stops, it has a chance, but in like in life, the game of basketball is unforgiving, he misses. As most made their pre-conceived predictions of the future, or lack thereof, a young sophomore and his Junior Varsity teammates, inspired by our elders walking off the court, and the doubters going home, bonded together. Believing we were destined for something historical, and mythological outside our small circle thus a community was born. The 2016 Northwest Varsity Basketball team, the discourse community, where I developed relationships with people I call my brothers, a community which has shaped my work ethic, and has given me the knowledge of the amount of work it takes to be successful. Work which came in the efforts of a particular goal which at the time was unknown amongst teammates. To us the future was still a mystery, a mystery in which we knew would outline some kind of success.
The film wasn’t about that 13-0 record and winning a state championship, but the struggle that came with it and all the hardships they had to deal and get past. Racism, prejudice, compassion and love were all key aspects of this film as shown. The racism, prejudice of the team when they first met was severe and had been changed. The love and compassion came as the team grew to become one unit and love each other and be able to become something more powerful than they could be by themselves.
Bill Courtney will always be remembered as the man that got the Manassas Tigers out of their low class struggles. Even with low valued resources like football equipment and lack of players, coach Bill got the Tigers to their first playoff appearance in school history. He did this through compassion (at times too much) and a fatherly guidance to all the young men on his football team. The film did an outstanding job at underlining the journey of three seniors on the Tigers football teams. These young men are O.C. Brown, Montrail ‘Money’ Brown, and Chavis Daniels.
“Character” (Experiences and attitudes that form decisions/actions): Brack is a rich man, and he is in a sense same approach similar as Hedda. He informs her about Eilert Lovborg how he is competing with George in the same position
Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual, though morality is subjective, in today’s society it is predominantly agreed upon that someone who is of good character has certain qualities that contribute to their decision making, trustworthiness, and intelligence. I previously mentioned prudence, which is the ability to govern oneself by the use of reason to make good judgements that allow you to avoid troublesome situations, which allows one to face the adversities of life while only encountering necessary risks. This is the ultimate show of genuine character, those who can judge for themselves and aren’t afraid to admit their faults, or
Character is how a person acts when no one else is looking. As a person is portrayed and perceived they are better understood when unveiling the true personality of an individual rather than their false persona. Both Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski 's performance vary and differ depending on the situation and the person of interaction.
Good character/characteristics also show leadership and value. Not only to the people around you, but to the marketplace (where you work).
