Community service is very near and dear to me. I have been the recipient on many occasions and it has helped me understand the importance of giving back to your community. When in the hospital I have appreciated all the visits from the Michigan University athletes, the book mobile, Delta pilots, along with the numerous other organizations that have programs to help easy hospital stays for kids. Since, I do not usually get many visitors while I am in the hospital, since I am usually hours from home, these have been very special to me.
Whenever, I have to travel back to Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Michigan for a check up or another stay, I try to repay what others have done for me. One patient in particular stands out to me, Nick, he is
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
People may think of service as being in a war or being part of our government. While these are very high positions of service there are also many small ways service can make an impact. Some of the service activities I have been included in are: Singing at a senior center, participating in Girl Scouts, adopting and caring for a humane society dog, donating clothes or toys to goodwill, and biking/walking places to save gas. Service is very important to me because it really helps me visualize the difference you can make by doing several small acts of kindness.
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I offered to volunteer in my church in the Vacation Bible School, Tiger Link Crew, Knight of Columbus, International Dinner, and Fall Festival. What I am most proud of doing is Vacation Bible School. I enjoyed being a part of the Vacation Bible School because it gave me good experience to be involved with children.
In this regard, the most important part of service to me personally is giving back to the community. Volunteering is my way of providing service to others, it is not only effective, but it’s a good way to meet people, to learn, and to develop social skills. By helping or supporting others, I learned and used new skills in communicating with people and I have gained confidence in myself through different interactions. Providing aid to a family in need or helping out an elementary teacher is necessary, because as people it should be our natural tendencies to support one another, and bring aid when aid is due. For example, at Seven Lakes High school I created the Girls for Krause Club. It was given the name the Girls for Krause club after the Krause Center; a center in Katy that fosters girls who have been taken out of their homes due to sexual harassment, parental mistreatment or mental issues. My first visit to the Krause Center was with my youth group at church. I was so touched by all the girls at the center, and how open they were about their situation. I remember one of the girls telling me thank you, for treating her like “a regular person.” This interaction gave me the incentive to create the Krause club, because I wanted to allow other girls my age to interact with these girls and bring attention to a center that wasn’t well known in my community. Moreover, creating the Krause club has been rewarding and a way to showcase
Community service, as I have come to learn, is all about taking the initiative to help someone in need, no matter their situation. As the verse Matthew 25:35 says above, it is our job to share God’s love through serving those who are hurting right in front of us. These people are strangers, we may not know them, but that does not mean they should not be helped. Over the course of my life I have had the opportunity to participate in a multitude of service projects, but the one I am most passionate about is the Harvesters Community Food Network.
The acts of community service I have participated in FBLA has taught and strengthen my belief that charity is the most important gestures any person can due to have a beneficial impact in the world; is to help a person in need. For instances, our organization has collected Christmas gifts for underprivileged children in the Henry County community each year and the act of giving a child without access to toys for the holidays something as simple as a toy car has brought the greatest
Moreover, I often volunteer to do service in my community. I have been doing volunteer work for Walk for Hunger since from 2011. Also I participate many times in school food bank, which school donates food to families who need help. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving them.
I will shortly be receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a concentration on business. I will soon leave the world of studies and enter what is commonly referred to as "the real world." While this thought is someone frightening, especially given the current economic situation the nation faces, it is also exciting as well. I believe that crossing this threshold will change the way I view my role in the community, as well as the impact I will have on the community when I graduate. No longer will I see myself as a "child" in society, taking what society has to offer but never thinking of giving back. Instead, I am soon to become a fully fledged member of the community, with responsibilities to the community as a whole.
The most memorable connection I have to a service is volunteering at my local FISH food bank. I have gone knocking door to door asking for cans for my local FISH food bank. I have also been able to work with a group of students like myself to create Christmas baskets for families. I have been able to help the FISH food bank plant gardens for the community. I, myself, have benefited from the FISH food bank during my childhood until now. My parents have always obtained some of the food we ate from the so generous FISH food bank. I am grateful to the people that donate food, volunteer, and coordinate the FISH food bank because it has provided not only my family but
I personally love community service. One Sunday of every month, my church engages in Live the Sermon Sunday. On this Sunday, we focus on helping our neighbors in the community. The church opens a variety of stations that everyone can participate in, such as; yard work for the elderly, feeding the homeless, and even packing goodies for elementary schools. I enjoy packing cute stickers, colorful pencils, and yo-yos for students. What I enjoy most about packing goodies for students is that I’m totally anonymous to them. I don’t seek recognition, or anything in return. I care more about
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
I went on a community service trip last spring that changed my life for the better. My eyes were opened to new ways to serve others. I think it is extremely important to put other above yourself.
Many people do not care about where they come from. Many people are selfish with their time and effort, but not me I do care about where I came from and I devote most of my time and effort to make many people happy. I try my hardest to do the right thing and to give back when I know I should. Giving back to my community is an important thing to me. People should care and protect about their communities. Three reasons why giving back to my community is important to me is because my community has done so much for me, I take so much pride in where I am from, and because I want people to see how wonderful my community is.
We all have something close to our heart that could make a positive change in our community and possibly even our earth. I could make a positive change in my community by raising money through fundraisers to buy new, unused, cotton clothing (shoes, shirts, shorts), and by donating these needed clothing items to underprivileged children. Due to my many hours of work in the community soup kitchen it was brought to my attention that there is a need for more than food, there is a necessitate for clothing. I would hope to make sure no child goes unclothed.
The one activity that means the most to me is my community service at the hospital. I am fairly new to this volunteer experience, but already I have been able to make many people’s day a bit brighter. The volunteer team at the Victoria General Hospital is unlike any other. The positions there are so highly coveted, it can take months for one to come available. I feel so lucky to be able to help out at a wonderful place in any way that I can. A large part of what I do at the hospital is to share experiences and chat with as many people as I have the chance to. Many people can fall lonely as a patient, and it is my job to uplift spirits, and bring along free books and magazines as entertainment for anyone who might want to read. In my time so
