Whether you believe learning styles are a myth or fact they still can help you learn the material for class. Just because you take this test online and it says that you are one hundred percent auditory learner doesn’t mean you can’t learn other ways. Learning styles can help you discover more creative ways for you to remember a topic or specific details. How Amy made a poster it helped her present her topic but also helped her learn and remember her topic. By writing it down and being creative you will remember the topic a lot better. Through myriad lectures, I am finding that I learn best kinesthetically. Hands-on activities provide kinesthetic learners with a deeper understanding of material that they do not receive with lectures alone. Simply reading a textbook or following a power-point is great for note-taking, but I have found that notes are not enough for me. By actually doing, I benefit from practice, and the content is better stored in memory. Even with simple flashcards for memorizing vocabulary or historical dates, I will excel further than by skimming over a sheet of paper or by listening to the information repeatedly read aloud. After hard work I finally found out I am a kinesthetic, right brained learner. To begin, I used many tools to figure it out including a computer test and survey sheets. Learning is so very important in every aspect of life. In this week's lesson, we found out that there are many ways of learning. In one of the tests, after answering the questions honestly, I learned I was a kinesthetic learner (Bethel University, 2013). Being a kinesthetic learner works extremely well in my career where all matters are hands on and one has to actively participate in learning new skills within a state penitentiary. When I took the learning preference quiz I had the highest score in tactile or kinesthetic learning. I had a 14 in tactile learning and 13 in both visual and auditory learning. I was not surprised by the top result from the quiz. I learn best hands on and prefer not to just read information. I was sort of surprised when it had visual and auditory tied for second. The information obtained by completing the Learning Style Inventory test was I am a kinesthetic learner (Bethel University, 2013). There are no surprises to the fact I am a kinesthetic learner I found this information out a few years ago going through testing for promotions.
